In light of my recent decision, should I serve at the Temple for a day?

Atlanta was the only one I could think of that was ready to be dedicated, but for some reason I didn't realize that it was a rededication.

I would really appreciate any pictures or video of these anti-Mormon protesters to upload to the Society for the Prevention of Anti-Mormon web site. We track anti-Mormon activity, tactics, incidents of vandalism, or violence against latter-day saints. If anti-Mormons are protesting a temple in your area, or are protesting at the Mesa Easter Pageant, the Hill Cumorah Pageant, or temple open houses, etc. please contact us so we can update our stats, photos, and other resources.

So... you refer to a temple as "she," just as ships are affectionately called that? :P

Glad you had a good time!

It seems natural to call it she, and I missed he so much. I was there in 83 when she was "christened", more navy language. I ache all over, but it was great.

Our reservation is for the 7:40 tour... I'm sorry your wife didn't get to finish the tour. It was really the only time we could schedule it since my son has practice until 6:00. I may take the back roads and avoid 285 all together.

I was under the impression that Pres. Monson was doing the dedication. They mentioned it several times in our Stake Conference on Saturday and Sunday.

I hope so but I was told it was Elder Keith Giddens, our former Stake President would be doing it. Where could I find out for sure? BTW, my wife had to leave with my granddaughter haklf way through so they came out and stood with me for a time. She is going back today with my daughter-in-law and the one of the same babies. Hope it goes better for them. I am not going to tour, I will just see it once dedicated, if I can get my heart screwed on straight? I have not been to the Temple in 4 months, since my son went through for his endowments to get ready for his mission.

I think ignoring them is the best thing, as they're exercising their First Amendment right of speech by being there, just as you're exercising your First Amendment right of religious freedom.

I'm still hearing that it will be President Monson.

And...I just got tickets to attend the dedication at the temple! I was anticipating watching it on closed circuit at the stake center, and I was looking forward to that. I'm especially excited to take my son with me. It's an opportunity that very few youth will have. I'm feeling so blessed!

We had one person protest outside our temple in langley before it was closed to the public for dedication. Finally some one from the church, invited this protestor inside the church to see if what has been told by his congregation was the truth. After taking a tour of the temple he said " This is NOT what my chuirch told me, Thay lied to me!" and he left the temple grounds in disbelief.

I am not high enough on the food chain, as my High Priest Group Leader put it. Besides I could not handle the traffic and the confusion. I can just drive a mile and watch it. Maybe, what day and what time is it? I was there at the dedication in 83, lived in Columbus then.

There are two sessions. I think that the first one is at 9, and the second one is at noon. It's being broadcast to all the Stake Centers. It takes me almost as long to get to my Stake Center as it does to get to the Temple, and traffic and parking will be a mess at the SC, too.

I'm really not that high on the food chain, either. I'd heard that each ward was given just 6 tickets to distribute at the bishop's discretion--and our bishop didn't choose me. I just happen to have a Home Teacher that is high on the food chain and he is in a position that he had extra tickets. He offered them to me during our visit yesterday. I wasn't going to say "no" to the opportunuity offered to my son--just because I'd have to deal with traffic. :) I don't think that may youth get to experience a dedication from inside the temple.

It will be great, maybe sometime I will tell all what happened when me and my daughter attended. Have a great time. With my doubts as of late, I would not go if asked. It is too sacred a place for someone like me right now. The parking lot was enough. I fear I have lost my faith in just about everything.

It's during times of doubts that attending things like this is best.

If church was only for people who never doubted, there would never be any converts ever. And most people in the church would not be able to return. ;)

I am going to take the advice of others and attend the Temple Dedication. I will be doing so at the Stake Center just a mile from home. I attended the original dedication in 83, with my daughter. She was just a few days shy of 9 at the time. We drove up from Columbus, GA. Maybe I will find something I seem to have lost Sunday; Pray that I do.

When is it? I hope you have a good experience.

As for me, I went to the dedication of our local temple several years ago. Even though Gordon B. Hinckley was there, it was rather disappointing, and I probably will never attend another one. I think it was the so-called "Hallelujah shout" that did it. It's supposed to be a moment when people express their sheer joy at having a new temple, and at having the Lord's presence in their midst, but in reality it went over like a lead balloon. Absolutely no enthusiasm or joy. They were trying so hard to be "reverent" that they completely missed the point, and it actually ended up being less reverent as a result, IMHO. There is a time and a place for everything, including a hearty shout of joy! I could picture God shaking his head in bemusement, not knowing whether to laugh or to cry!

I know what you mean, thee is not much passion in our services, one of the things i love about Elder Holland when he speaks.

Oh and it is Sunday May 1st.

Just so we're clear, I'm not trying to discourage you from attending. Temple dedications are not my "thing," but other people get a lot out of them, and you might have a wonderful time. Guess everybody has a different personality, and different things touch us, eh? ;)

I think it is an awesome oppertunity, I have not ever been able to see a temple dedicated. hopefully when the Indianapolis temple is dedicated i will be there.

the temple dedication is what you make of it. I give a loud and joyful Hallelujah shout. I've attended dedications at the Dallas, Jordan River, Korea, Alabama temples, and of course the broadcasts of the Palmyra, Nauvoo, and Winter Quarters temples.

For two of these temples I was in the choir (Korea and Alabama). For the Alabama temple, I was involved in much of the preparation for it, as well as assisted during the open house for the tours.

Going the extra mile made these events more spectacular. Instead of seeking marvelous talks or stimulating shouts, I sought the Spirit and experienced it in several (not all) of these dedications.

The real Spirit, however, usually attends me during regular visits to the temple. It is something that definitely requires humble preparation.

I was not discouraged by your statement, just agreeing with you, other than in song, Mormons can be a dispassionate people when in worship services. I spoke of Elder Holland and his passion when speaking; makes me wonder why people don’t do more of that kind of speaking in Church.
