UPDATED: Local LDS Missionary Injured in Guatemala After Lion Attack | | St. George News | STGnews.comSt. George News | STGnews.com

This is our ward missionary's cousin. His family is beside themselves, not knowing how badly he'll be effected by his injuries.

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Gotta do something about these literal-minded elders.

ksl.com - LDS missionary attacked by lions in Guatemalan zoo

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala — Alan Oakey said he believes in miracles.

Now more than ever.

Oakey's 20-year-old son, Paul, is recovering in a Guatemalan hospital after being mauled by two lions Monday at a zoo.

Elder Paul Richard Oakey, of St. George, has been serving the past 19 months as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Guatemala City South Mission.

I would say God bless this missionary and his family, but it's apparent that God has already done that and continues to do so. What a scary experience. Wishing him a well recovery.

How dreadful! I am always telling my elders to be careful. Between the invincibility of youth and an unawareness of the world's dangers, they don't always see trouble ahead.

It is a blessing that the surgeon was there, though. Even when we get ourselves into a mess, Heavenly Father can offer a way out.

Prayer is done!

I have to say though. As weird does it get a lion in Guatemala in a land not known for lions!

I went back and read the comments - there are some heartless people out there. Someone even suggested that the elder be returned dishonorably. Really? For doing something stupid?

Young guys will be young guys. Too bad the internet allows every idiot to say ignorant and mean things about people they don't even know. And if I read another 'Ugly American' comment, I'm going to scream.
