Long hair is also frowned upon [at BYU]. As a student there, Francesco Perri would put his chocolate-brown hair in a ponytail and wear a wool cap on campus. “I just didn’t want to look like everybody else,” said Mr. Perri, 31, who is now a hotel clerk in New York and rides his single-speed bike around Brooklyn.

That's my definition of cool.

Eh, my hubby went to Ricks and BYU, now he sports a beard all the time. No big deal when not a student. Also thought the article was interesting. Thought it was weird at the end where it gave quick notes on how to get around Mormon rules and still be cool. Kinda funny. I donno, I never felt like too much of a misfit, as an adult, working in a libral university. I didn't look or dress any differnt than my co-workers.

Ah, the BYU beard card. If a resurrected Brigham Young himself were to visit BYU, he would be quickly sent to the honor code office where some frustrated honor code officer would demand to see his beard card. :P

The issue of Beard vs Non-Beard is crucial for both temporal and spiritual salvation...lol!

<sarcasm off>

I find it interesting to see what about the church interests others.

I'm sure all the clean shaven men will be forgiven one day, all that vanity thinking they look pretty with smooth cheeks. O.o

(Forums should adopt an "this is a lame joke" font so no one takes me seriously)

Such fonts are only effective when they are used sparsely. Since it would be turned on permanently for you, it would lose it's power very quickly.

Not only has Mr. Peterson kept up his magazine subscriptions, but he has also opened Rogue Parlour, a tattoo studio in Tucson, Ariz. While he still faces condemnation of his profession from family members, last year he added a tattoo on his left arm: a beehive, a Mormon symbol of working together for the common good. “It’s a complicated way of saying I still love the church,” he said.

Wow! Well... good for him (I guess).

LDS tattoo Ideas deserves it's own thread. I guess a portrait of Gordon B. Hinckley would get you a stern talking to when you meet him in the next life.

I bet J. Golden would give it a laugh though.

If Brigham were a member of BYU faculty, he would shave his beard.
