I have seen members with tattoos. It is part of their life before joining the church and they do not get judged because of it. I even know, fairly well, a member of a bishopric who has a visible tattoo. It is not what you do before you know Christ, but what you do after.

Up until a few years ago, tattoos were permitted. As were more than one set of earrings, and earrings on men.

I had multiple earrings, as well as tattoos.

What do you mean "up until a few years ago?"

I wondered what she meant by "permitted". As far as I know, tattoos and multiple piercings don't keep you out of the temple or from performing other Priesthood ordinances.

What if I decide to get a tattoo? I was born and raised a member of this Church. I served a mission and I'm married in the Temple. Im an active member and I really wanna get a tattoo. What do you think?

First, I think you should treat your body like a temple and not deface it.

Second, "Thou mayest choose for thyself, for it is given unto thee."

I think it's a bad idea for an active Church member (or any Church member) to get a tattoo, unless there's a medical reason for doing so.

In my humble opinion, you should not get a tattoo, just like you shouldn't spray graffiti at the Temple.

There are very good reasons for our leaders taking the stand against tattoos and piercings for males. It is esstentially a way to permanently self-mutilate your body. This should, if possible, be avoided.

Sorry for the strong choice of words but essentially this is what it is. It's a really bad idea to get a tattoo if you are an active member of the Church.
