My geekiness is showing....this is funny!

Great minds think alike - Watching the opening ceremony I was very much reminded of Saruman's ruining of Isengard!

We're not doing too shabby :D

USA men's swim team got Gold in the 200 Free Relay, and our women's gymnastic team got Gold too!

I wish they'd show judo in the US.

The bummer with watching the Olympics on TV is that they only showcase certain sports. Fortunately, swimming, track and gymnastics are at the top of my list, so I can't complain too much. But I wish they'd highlight the many other athletes, and their accomplishments. I couldn't log into my mobile app but apparently, you can select exactly what sport you wish to follow and watch full coverage -- live even.

The only sport I'm even remotely involved with in real life is Karate - which of course is not an Olympic sport. The closest they have is Taekwondo - but I've not seen much of that yet.

The US always gets masses of medals, as does China. I like to root for the underdog. (So long as it's not against Britain! ;))

My wife is American so I feel I ought to support the US, but I'm usually secretly rooting for the other side!

Just don't tell her!

Shamefully, I sometimes find myself rooting secretly (or not-so-secretly) for the US opponent.

I consider myself as patriotic as most anyone, but Olympic medal count just seems a pitiful way to measure the value of your country. If that's a good measure, then the fall of the Soviet Union must count as one of the great tragedies of human history.

Haha! I guess, to be honest, I'm just as happy for GB to win Gold as I am the USA.

So here is a question ksl.com just posted on their facebook page. What are your thoughts?

Do you think it is fair that only two gymnasts from each country are allowed to compete in the individual all-around? The rule was changed in 2003, so despite scoring higher than several other gymnasts in other countries, U.S. Gymnast and World All-Around Champion Jordan Wieber won’t be competing.

Yes, I think it's fair. The point of the Olympics is international competition, not national medal count.

No, it's not fair.

The point of the Olympics is to determine who is the best player in the World. Jordan proved better than 20 of those women that competed in the Olympic Individual All-Around Championship. This should have nothing to do with which country she came from.

I'm not sure that the medal count is there to measure the value of your country. If you believe that claptrap, then you should re-evaluate your values... If anything, the medal count is there for the gamblers in Las Vegas to have something to bet on.

Okay, I'm getting tired of this "most medal in Olympic history" elevating Phelps to near god-like status. Yeah. Sorry, Phelps, you are a great athlete and all but your medal count doesn't make you the best Olympian in history... if volleyball players get a medal for every game they win, they'd get more medals than you.

So yeah, NBC coverage is crap because I'm sick of swimming.

Table tennis. Super fun to watch.

If you go to Live Olympic Video - Full Schedule | NBC Olympics you can steam events live or catch a replay. If the replay is newer than 48 hours (or is a live feed) it looks like it requires your 'cable' provider's log-in to make sure you have CNBC and MSNBC as part of your package, if it's older than 48 hours though it looks like it'll just play the video, no log-in or provider required.

What's crazy to me is how big some of these Olympians are. Women are easily 6ft and the men are anywhere from 6'5" and taller! One swimmer was 6'8.. Wow! That's big..

Especially for those of us who are height challenged.

Haha! Yes, I'm definitely height challenged.

I'm shrinking (in height, at least). I am at least an inch shorter than I was when I graduated high school.

Now you know why there are only 11 Filipino Olympians...

I need to Google this! I haven't been following the Filipino team.. But it's great to hear that the Philippines DO participate. Hmm.. what do they do? I think they should get involved in Synchro Diving because they are the perfect size and frame for that sport. China is typically good, and now Mexico is stepping up!

Okay, you don't need to google. I know all of their names... :D

1.Rachel Cabral – Archery

2.Mark Javier – Archery

3.Jessie Khing Lacuna – Swimming

4.Jasmine Alkhaldi – Swimming

5.Brian Rosario – Shooting

6.Hidilyn Diaz - Weightlifting

7.Mark Barriga – Boxing

8.Tomohiko Hoshina - Judo

9.Marestella Torres – Long Jump

10.Rene Herrera – 5,000m Race

11.Dennis Caluag – Cycling

Yeah, no medals so far. Not even close. All our swimming Olympians did not even qualify for the semis.

Hoshina is judo-ing today.

Well.. It doesn't matter if you when Gold, Silver or Bronze at the Olympics -- only what colours you represent! (I think this was a Tide commercial.. Lol).

And yeh, a 5 foot swimmer versus a 6 foot plus swimmer -- no contest :/

The problem I had with trying to do that is this...I have DirectTV. Okay you wouldn't think it was a problem. But I bundled it with CenturyLink internet and that's who it is billed from. CenturyLInk account number doesn't work with this because it's not a DirectTv account number. Epic Fail.

I got behind on the Olympic coverage but I just started getting caught back up! The dedication that these guys have is seriously insane! Ryan Lochte talked about all the vigorous training he went through up until this point of having won gold. He said that he hasn't ever been able to celebrate his birthday since he was 12 because of swim training. Wow, can you imagine being a young kid and not having a "day off"? And I used to fight my parents over a couple hours of piano lessons.. LOL

Olympics will be wrapping up shortly.

I was watching women's gymnastics, and it's interesting how mainstream audience don't understand how the floor routines are done. Every time a gymnast "stuck it" with a two feet landing, the cheers and applauds were ear racketing. But whenever a gymnast landed and motioned into another element, people either gasped or it was crickets.. People don't realise that with the floor routine you don't want to stick it, you want to continue into another element for more points. It may look like a cop-out and perhaps not as neat and tidy as a stick it landing but stick its don't get extra points on the floor. I wish this aspect was explained more clearly so people can appreciate the more complex routines, even though they may look less complex.
