MorningStar Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 My son is turning 13 this month and I'm trying to think of something really creative. He mentioned that he wants Princess Bride on DVD and I bought that months ago. It's hiding in our closet. I thought it would be fun to write "As you wish" on his birthday cake. I could make swords out of cardboard and cover it in tin foil. Do you all have any ideas? Oh yes, I was thinking I'll have a bowl of peanuts out and a note that says, "Stop the rhyming and I mean it" Quote
Wingnut Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 You and your husband could dress as ROUSes and attack the kids. Quote
NeuroTypical Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 I love Princess Bride too. If he's having friends over, make darn sure his friends know about the movie. Big difference in a 13 yr old boy's life between Princess Bride-themed stuff, and a Princess-themed stuff. Quote
applepansy Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 Print out all the commonly known sayings from the movie and tape them up where they will mean something and he can't miss them. Make it seem you're doing your best because you couldn't get the movie. Then surprise him Quote
MorningStar Posted September 17, 2012 Author Report Posted September 17, 2012 I have to fit in, "You killed my father. Prepare to die!" And I need a 6 fingered glove. LM - I would definitely make it known that it's not a princess party. Quote
Wingnut Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 Something with the Dread Pirate Roberts, perhaps? Quote
MorningStar Posted September 17, 2012 Author Report Posted September 17, 2012 Maybe punch with some eels or whatever those things were. Let's see the cats act out that part. Quote
MorningStar Posted September 17, 2012 Author Report Posted September 17, 2012 A flagon of vinegar. Inconceivable! Quote
Wingnut Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 Inconceivable!I do not think that word means what you think that it means. Quote
Wingnut Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 In honor of the duel of wits, you could have riddles for them to solve. Quote

Wingnut Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 That would have been a lot funnier if it were all cats. Quote
ClickyClack Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 In honor of the duel of wits, you could have riddles for them to solve.Reenact the duel of wits. Maybe one drink made with sugar, another made with salt. Quote
EarlJibbs Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 Get (borrow) a projector and actually watch the movie "on the big screen" style. If it is not too cold, doing this outside is a favorite of mine. Quote
Misshalfway Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 This sounds like a fun party for adults! :) Quote
MorningStar Posted September 27, 2012 Author Report Posted September 27, 2012 That would be fun for adults! So a friend of mine has a ROUS from a previous Halloween party. I'm pretty sick and the birthday boy is home sick, so I don't get to decorate like I wanted to, but I bought some things to go with the movie. During the duel of wits, I'll bring out some goblets with some sparkling apple marionberry juice. When Wesley is "mostly dead" and has to swallow the pill with the chocolate, we'll eat some truffles. I got plastic swords, ring pops (for the "mawwiage" part), peanuts for the "stop the rhyming and I mean it" line, and other stuff. I also got a cake that says "As you wish". I bought him some doughnuts for breakfast to cheer him up too and I'm going to make him a smoothie for lunch full of Vitamin C. Quote
