annewandering Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 I read that on facebook today. It was a touching story and it has turned out well for them. Quote
Vort Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 I find it deeply sad. Decent people trying to act decently to the best of their understanding, but without valid societal norms to help them understand the reality of things. Quote
Guest Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 I think there were probably a lot of families waiting to adopt and I found it really unusual that a judge would just randomly hand a child to whoever found him. Quote
ploomf Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 What a beautiful story. Now I'm all teary eyed. Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 (edited) I find it deeply sad. Decent people trying to act decently to the best of their understanding, but without valid societal norms to help them understand the reality of things.Vort, I rarely say this, but I think you're being just a smidge too charitable. "Societal norms" have moved so fast on the gay-rights front that these guys can't blame "society" for their decision to violate the law of chastity. Ignorance is not (yet) an excuse--they've rejected the social mores that existed as recently as a decade ago, as well as the Light of Christ that was in them, in favor of their own base desire to copulate in a manner and with individuals whom the Lord has expressly forbidden. And now they've got a child to whom they will teach the exact. same. thing.*That is a tragedy, and as latter-day saints we shouldn't be afraid to say so. The odds that this individual child will ever receive and accept the fulness of the Gospel in this life, just took a nose dive.*Not that they're going to teach the kid to be gay; but that they're going to teach the kid to make sexual/personal gratification a higher priority than God and truth. selek Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 The OP is a propaganda piece designed to influence policy by manipulating emotion. For far too many Latter-day Saints- people who are supposed to know better- it works all too often. It's simply amazing how many professing Mormons come to these boards promoting evil as good and godly. The linked piece tells only one "side" of the tale, and leaves out a great many facts which are not "faith-promoting" to the dogma being peddled. When we do not include every critics pet theory into our historical accounts, we are accused of "whitewashing".Yet the usual suspects are silent on the egregious bias in the linked piece.Could it be, perhaps, that the standard has been lowered for an ideology with which they agree? One of our Apostles was widely lambasted for allegedly saying, "not all truths are useful" (in reality, his words were being deliberately taken out of context).Funny- the other side doesn't seem to want to hold their own to that same lofty standard.I wonder why. annewandering Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 One situation a theory does not prove. Yes it is heartwarming but the boy is only ten years old. No one has any idea what his future will be. We can hope for the best. It has been shown in studies time and again that a mom and a dad are the best choice for the successful raising of a child. The thing that annoys me so much is when stupid people mess up marriages over and over and that is used to 'prove' same sex parenting and marriages are better than straight. Of course better is usually more than a little subjective. Quote

Vort Posted March 5, 2013 Report Posted March 5, 2013 For the record, the subject line is false. "Love" is feminine in Germanic languages such as English and masculine in Latin languages. In the Greek, it probably depends on what type of "love" you're talking about. No idea for Hebrew. Quote

Finrock Posted March 5, 2013 Report Posted March 5, 2013 First of all, I think it is wonderful that an abandoned baby was found by some compassionate people and rescued. I'm glad that the boy and his family appear to be happy and well. But, that isn't all this article or thread is about... The relationship between the thread title and the article's content does not make sense unless the intent is to make some affirmative statement about homosexual rights, yet, this isn't being explicitly stated. This part of the thread/article combo seems a bit disingenuous. The article is clearly trying to normalize homosexual relationships and families. That part of the article is unfortunate because it is teaching falsehoods about the family, gender, and marriage. Regards, Finrock Quote
