I started following her on Tumblr a few weeks ago. For those of you that like your meat, you may still find this of value, as she basically just reiterates healthy living that's cost efficient. Bini Posted July 30, 2013 Author Report Share Posted July 30, 2013 I was going to add that if you've never tried a full vegetarian or vegan plate of food -- try this blog because it's much more than salad! And there's so many great recipes out there that taste wonderful and are filling. I like to do at least one or two of these meals per week for the entire family, and my husband and daughter eat well. There is a great food porn section, in case you don't know what stuff is supposed to look like.The site owner is Isa Chanda Moskowitz, who is a vegan cookbook diva. I have 3 of her books, including a cupcake book that will make you put on 20 lbs just looking at the pictures.Be warned - I don't think they have a lot of vulgarity, but they use a lot of euphemisms and can be very earthy. john doe Posted February 1, 2014 Report Share Posted February 1, 2014 I love vegetables. In fact I had a a wonderful baked potato the other night with my 22oz. bone-in ribeye from Elway's. Melted some butter on it, and I was in heaven. Oh, and I had a wedge salad featuring a huge chunk of lettuce smothered in Bleu Cheese and topped with a couple slices of bacon. mmmm, mmmm, good! Thanks.Check out this cookbook: The Silver Spoon New Edition: Phaidon Press: 9780714862569: Amazon.com: BooksIt's not all vegan, or even aimed that way, it's Italian. With apx 1500 pages, and 3-4 recipes a page... There are literally thousands of recipes. Being "real" Italian, it means that in addition to meats/seafood, each "common" vegetable also gets it own section (common in Italy, so radicchio, broccoli raab, and artichokes ... Right along wih peas, carrots, cauliflower). It's separated both by type (soups, antipasti, pasta, veg, dessert, etc.), as well main ingredient... Be it eggs or rabbit, squash or asparagus. Most dishes are 3-5 ingredients... Although some are show stopper complex... That's not really the Italian ethos. Which is to focus on quality & simiplicty. LOL and to make today's dinner into part of tomorrow's, and tomorrow's, and tomorrow's. Until it's time to throw all the leftovers in a lovely kale & white bean ribolata, or tomato based bread soup, or a mushroom based... Yeah. You get the point. In fact, most of the few complex recipes are really calling for leftovers to be out to use. For the dishes that aren't vegetarian, the vast majority are easy to make vegan/vegetarian. Substituting coconut cream or veggie stock for cream or meat stock, for example. Some require creative tweaking (instead of tuna & caper stuffed tomatoes, using a veggie filling... But I've gotten more good ideas from things I DONT use, than the frustration of one more thing that won't translate well. Like using a caper and lemon spiked protein based mousse in cherry tomatoes. I can't remember if that one was a creamy bean & bread, or leftover lentil soup I fluffed.). Word to the wise, though, the cream of carrot soup is to die for. Just wow. A lot is phenom (I've yet to come across a bad recipe), but that was one I made for the kids -thinking I'd hate it-, and then had to make a second batch. My ex was (mostly) vegetarian, and my bestie is (mostly) vegan. I cook out of here constantly. * The English translation used to run well over $100. It's really the Italian bible of cooking. Over43 Posted March 2, 2014 Report Share Posted March 2, 2014 I would like to say yuck to this thread, and probably would, but after turning 50 this last week I joined AARP and there was a rather interesting article on their website on Bill Clinton and his turning vegan. Apparently he has reversed his angina, and his biomarkers have improved substantially. I truthfully never liked him much as president, but he does seem like a pretty amiable guy. Thanks.Suzie, my favorite healthy vegan cookbook is actually a "raw food book" by two teenagers, no less. They came up with some great concoctions! LEAF: Low Fat, Everyday, Affordable & Fast Recipes | Happy Herbivore. Most of the recipes are very simple. She has an international book and just came out with a 'light and lean' book, though I don't know why you'd need it as her other recipes are pretty light and lean. I use her 'Everyday' book quite frequently. There are a few recipes on her website and she has a FB page.Forks Over Knives | Official Website is a good general resource with recipes, though the recipes come from a variety of people and vary in their difficulty.Finally, I love Engine 2 The Engine 2 Diet. The guy is a former firefighter and triathlete (his father is a famous heart specialist and also a low fat vegan). The foods appeal to men, there's a lot of TexMex (he's out of Austin), and the recipes are generally simple. I like that he calls his plan 'plant strong' rather than low fat vegan - you don't feel like you've sinned if you had a piece of chicken (OK, maybe it's a little sin if you worry about how chickens are raised in this country, but you don't have to go to confession for it).
