Swiper Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 So what was your impression of General Conference? Which talks did you enjoy the most? Did you find any talk particularly inspiring or perhaps troubling? I did enjoy the talks from President Uchtdorf and Elder Holland. All other talks, not so much. Quote
Guest Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 What I caught of it was great. I liked the emphasis on strength through trials, and truth being constant and not subject to consensus. I thought the music was phenomenal. Quote
Smudge Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 (edited) I loved the sessions of conference that I was able to see and I don't think I could pick out a favorite talk. I think the 2 things that have struck me most about this years conference are that firstly my flatmate decided that she did want to go today after saying all week that she didn't want to and secondly something that happened yesterday on our way home after the Morning session Broadcast. We had left and were headed with the missionaries in the car. I looked in my bag for my mobile to see if I had any messages as I thought I had felt it vibrate during conference - and I couldn't find it - I even had the sisters call me hoping that my phone would vibrate and light up - and it didn't do either. So we returned to the chapel to look for it. I didn't find it but we discovered that everyone had gone but one elderly sister and the person locking up. The poor old dear didn't have a lift home to her town and there were no buses at that time of night. We just about had enough fuel to be able to take her home so we did. Of course as soon as my friend said we would take this dear sister who feeds half the missionaries in the stake on conference Sunday home my phone appeared. We believe we were meant to go back to the chapel and what a blessing it was to be able to help this dear sister. Edited October 7, 2013 by Smudge Quote
dahlia Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 I liked Elder Holland's talk very much. I forget who it was, but someone spoke to the issue of women and the priesthood. I think they gave a good response to the women who want to hold the priesthood. I was just happy Pres Monson could speak, considering how close it was to his anniversary. He could easily have been too overwhelmed to address the public, so for me, just seeing him was fine. It didn't matter what he spoke about. Quote

Swiper Posted October 7, 2013 Author Report Posted October 7, 2013 I thought you weren't going to watch.Didn't plan to. Ended up having the Saturday sessions playing in the background and caught Uchtdorf's talk. I really liked his talk so I listened to a few others. While I really liked Holland's talk the rest of the talks left me rather dismayed. President Uchtdorf urged me to come back; Elder Oaks reminded me why I never will. Quote

andypg Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Elder Holland, President Uchtdorf (both of his talks), and President Monson spoke directly to me. It was as if they said, "Hey, Andy's coming to this thing, let's write something to help him out." After the prophet spoke I texted the missionaries from back home, "Does the prophet know me???" It seriously felt like he did! Quote
beefche Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 After the prophet spoke I texted the missionaries from back home, "Does the prophet know me???" It seriously felt like he did!The prophet doesn't, but the Spirit knows you. I find that at least one speaker in conference each year is speaking directly to me. I think the Spirit whispers to that speaker and says, "Hey, some chick needs you to talk on this." That speaker just doesn't know it's a chick from Indiana... Quote
