Any of you RS presidency members....What are your thoughts on the RS secretary teaching along with the other RS presidency members on the 1st Sunday's . What is the direction you have been given?

I served in 2 RS presidencies (not the president of either). In both presidencies, we had the secretary teach only when one of the three of us couldn't teach.

One Sunday, none of the presidency was going to be at church. We had to go to the bishop to get his authorization to allow the secretary to conduct the RS meeting that Sunday.

If you look in the handbook, the secretary isn't really a part of the presidency, so in order for her to teach or conduct authorization would have to be by the direction of the Bishop.

I get the conducting part, but is the teaching part accurate? Isn't the first Sunday left to the discretion of the presidency? As in, if the president decides they really need a lesson on financial preparation she could ask the sister who's a financial planner to teach regardless of her calling in the class.

[re-reads section 9.4.1] I stand corrected.

I know that with the elders quorum anyone who is an elder can teach the presidency message by assignment from the elders quorum president or the counselor that the elders quorum president has delegated the responsibility of lesson planning to.I have even had relief society members teach the presidency message when the spirit directed such. I would assume it is the same for the RS. Just an aside the handbook is guide, not scripture and general authorities have told us to lead by the spirit.

Go ahead and say it: "beefche, you are right." Repeat it.... louder, please.

Is it a violation of covenants to ask another man to fill Dravin's husbandly duties?

<sigh> fine. I acknowlege that your understanding of this portion of the handbook of instruction is most likely, in very narrow confines and circuumstances, correct and possibly even with merit. I will even go the extra mile and state conversely that I was, for a discrete and finite period of time, probably in error in my understanding.

I was DEFINITELY in the wrong for speaking up and showing my ignorance. On that we all agree. I will not publicly counterdict you again. (I'm writing that last sentence 100 times so I can remember).
