Sorry; I should be filling you in, shouldn't I? We reported for duty Monday, have our equipment loaded and personal bags packed, and the shipping containers left today. They have the equipment we'll need in Iraq, and will hopefully be there when we arrive. Our flight out is July 5th, so I have a week left at home.

Now we begin training on weapons, convoy operations, spotting and reacting to roadside bombs and such. We'll also be working on rollover drills, where we train on how to react and escape when a vehicle is blown over onto its side or top.

My ward had a farewell party for me last night, which was nice.

That was so nice of your ward to have a party for you. :)

If I rememeber right you have been to war before. Why are they training you for safety things now?

Well, bear in mind that we have plenty of soldiers in the unit who haven't been in combat yet. I believe as lessons are learned, they integrate them into training to minimize injuries and combat losses.

Did Trident show up to wish you well?

Outshined...

Your unit isn't doing an NTC rotation before you roll out??

Thats odd..

Most of the guard / reserve units here do NTC as an extended AT before they go.

And our job as NCO's is to help train the younger soldiers, and prepare them for what its really going to be like overthere.

Outshined,

May God keep you and yours safe and close as you are departed from one another. May God bless your troop with strength, courage and vigilence to your mission.

God bless you my brother!!!

Our HQ unit went through Ft Hood; they move on to Kuwait this weekend. We are being sent (of all places) to Camp Shelby Mississippi for MOB training.

I appreciate everyone's good wishes and kind words. Thanks, guys.

Dude, good luck. My brother's SF and has done two tours in Iraq and one in Aphganistan (and several in Kuwait before the war, he was also in GW I). He says it's boring, but then he's SF so his opinion can't be trusted.

Good luck.

Well, today is the day. :(

Saying goodbye to my wife and kids today, and having a lot of those 'last' moments: last time I'll sleep in my own bed, last time I'll pet the dogs, etc... *sigh*

I'll post again as soon as I can get access. You're a great bunch of people and I consider you friends.

God be with you 'till we meet again,

By His counsels guide, uphold you,

With His sheep securely fold you:

God be with you 'til we meet again

Best of Luck to you my friend. I will be continuing to pray for you and your family.

:bearhug:

Outshined,

Best wishes! I'll keep you and your family in my prayers too! :)
