momma14 Posted January 5, 2015 Report Posted January 5, 2015 I'm trying to find a LDS ob-gyn in the central florida area, preferably orange or lake county. If you know of one, please let me know. I would like a doctor who shares my beliefs. :) Quote
Vort Posted January 5, 2015 Report Posted January 5, 2015 Far be it from me to lecture a woman about her choice of gynecologist...but for myself, when I want a doctor or dentist, religious affiliation is quite low on my list of musts and nice-to-haves. pam and Iggy 2 Quote
momma14 Posted January 5, 2015 Author Report Posted January 5, 2015 I generally don't care what religious affiliation my dr has (if any), but I recently received a blessing that told me to prayerfully seek a new doctor. This is part of my process. If I find an lds dr, great, if not, I'll go back to the drawing board. Quote
Roseslipper Posted January 5, 2015 Report Posted January 5, 2015 (edited) I kn ow o ne in south Florida. But Vort is right there are many good Dr s who r not lds do research on them. Edited January 5, 2015 by Roseslipper Quote
NightSG Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 I'd probably want my GP to be Christian, just in case it ever comes down to a DNR situation and I want somebody who's on the same page in terms of belief, but I would hope an OB/GYN never has to be the one helping you make that call unless it's a close family member. I also find that I can be much more open and candid with a non LDS doctor. Though in Utah...well a lot are LDS. :) Quote
PolarVortex Posted January 9, 2015 Report Posted January 9, 2015 I think it's quite reasonable to prefer an LDS doctor, especially if you're not in Utahland. I have a crusty old grouch of a doctor (his Yelp reviews are laugh-out-loud horrible), and if I wore a garment to my physical exam I'm quite sure he would snort and ask me, "what the #*%$ is that?" Last year he asked me how many sexual partners I had had in the previous year. When I told him (see my other post about celibacy), he rolled his eyes and snapped, "Well, I suppose that's okay because you're so old." (I'm not that old.) So yeah, I'd love to have an LDS doctor. But to each his/her own... Jane_Doe 1 Quote
Bini Posted January 9, 2015 Report Posted January 9, 2015 I was a nurse for a long time. Trust me. You want a doctor who is good at being a doctor. Personality and religious affiliation preferences met are nice, maybe comforting, but not the most vital. Jane_Doe and Roseslipper 2 Quote
PolarVortex Posted January 9, 2015 Report Posted January 9, 2015 Yes, my cousin is a nurse, and most people do not realize the range in competence of doctors. It's quite frightening, actually, especially in backwater towns and remote locations. I meant preference in terms of all other things being roughly equal, and I'm guessing the OP felt the same way.
