Hey guys,

I'm just curious what your thoughts are on changing terminology to Daesh. Supposedly it is the preferred term many world leaders would like us to use as it delegitimizes the extremist organisation somewhat.

I found this to be an interesting read on the topic that may be more accurate than other reports - but who knows really?

I just spoke with a Muslim friend at work.  When I asked him about the use of acronyms in Arabic he began laughing.  He explained, as the article’s author, that Arabic acronyms are ridiculous.   They understand it is common in English.  But to use them in Arabic is just a silly concept.

Another thing he pointed out was that the younger generation – the texting generation – is using acronyms because that is the language of texting.  So, as this becomes the norm, who knows if using Daesh will have the desired effect?
