wickerrobot Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Hello, I grew up in Pennsylvania, but lived and taught in Maryland for a few years recently. I am an atheist turned LDS. I am a semi-recent convert to the LDS faith (Approx. a year). My first introduction to the church was when I asked a friend of mine "How was Mormon class?" when she returned from institute. She simply asked if I wanted to come and I did. So, the very first thing I did in the church was institute for a couple weeks before attending church. Oh yeah--and I later went on to marry this friend of mine who invited me to class. A week after we got married I was baptised, and a week after that we both got jobs working in Qatar. So, we now live on a tiny peninsular nation that juts off of Saudi Arabia. We live in the capitol which is called Doha. We do not have a regular chapel where we meet, but the church has a very large villa where sacrament and classes take place. In fact, the ward was so large that it had to split recently. One of the things I am still geting used to is the fact that we have church and classes on Friday instead of Sunday so our practices allign better with our Muslim host nation. Nobody seems to mind too much, but it is strange to start the weekend with church. Our work week is Sunday through Thursday. Anyway, I could probably write a good post about being LDS in a Muslim nation. (It is not nearly as hard as you think. In fact, in many ways it is easier to live as a Mormon here.) Anywhoozle, I'm new on the board, and I hope to find some good conversation and an outlet to discuss my faith and read about the faith of others. I look forward to meeting you all. (In the less real online sense) Keep it real, wr Quote

john doe Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Welcome. I hope you enjoy your time spent here. When I saw the tag to this thread I somehow in my mind started playing that old Rolling Stones song that starts out like that. Sympathy For The Devil, I think it was called. Not a reflection on you, but it just popped into my head when I read that. Quote
Dr T Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 Welcome Wicker :) . Yes it is The Stones' Symptathy for the Devil. Great son! Quote

Lonasunde Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 Welcome! I'm looking forward to hearing more about you. My Aunt and her family lived in Saudia Arabia for a while. My cousins were really little though, so they couldn't tell me much about it. Quote
Old Tex Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 Hello,I grew up in Pennsylvania, but lived and taught in Maryland for a few years recently.I am an atheist turned LDS.Atheist to LDS....Sounds like quite a jump. I have often wondered if some folks who say that they are atheist really are, of if they just haven't heard anything that makes sense to them yet. I'm glad that you decided to go to the Institute classes.Isn't Qatar where they are building a huge island shaped like a palm tree? Quote
