Need reference for Christ's birthdate April 6th

I have been asked to provide a reference for the claim that Joseph Smith said that Christ was born on the 6th of April. Can anyone find a source for that statement?

You may not love this answer, but Bruce R McConkie said “We do not believe it is possible with the present state of our knowledge —including that which is known both in and out of the church —to state with finality when the natal day of the Lord Jesus actually occurred.”

Ftr, Joseph Smith said no such thing. The belief is based on an overly literal interpretation of the first verse of Secton 20, which was not even written by Joseph Smith.

As I understand it, the main source for the April 6th claim is Elder Talmage in his book Jesus the Christ.

Because I was born on April 6th also, and my dad told me it was Jesus' birthday.   

But like @Vort referenced, he used the literal interpretation of D&C 20:1.
