askandanswer Posted October 22, 2023 Report Posted October 22, 2023 Just a thought 4 O Lord, do not suffer that this people shall be destroyed by the sword; but O Lord, rather alet there be a bfamine in the land, to stir them up in remembrance of the Lord their God, and perhaps they will repent and turn unto thee. This verse refers to a time when large numbers of Nephites were being killed in a war. Through the intervention of Nephi, the deaths from war came to an end, but deaths from famine commenced. It reminds me of 1918 when the deaths from war stopped but deaths from the Spanish flu commenced. Just_A_Guy and Anddenex 2 Quote

This verse may be a hint at it's timing. Perhaps another world war or Armageddon or a time when civil unrest and war will be taking place in much of the world. Quote

I think his prayer was for the prevention of destruction (which the war would guarantee), and to allow a space for remembrance and repentance" that the famine would offer. Having the sealing power, Nephi would be exercising the keys of repentance rather than destruction in their behalf. askandanswer 1 Quote
