With volume 4 of saints soon available for purchase in the UK I've finally started reading the series. (Wanted to wait and read it all in one hit as I hate waiting.)

On the topic of Joseph Smiths treasure hunting trial "fraud trial"

1. Joseph Smith advised the hunt be called off

2. Josiah Stowell (the supposed victim) testified of Josephs gift

3. The case was dismissed

4. The angel Moroni commanded that Joseph Smith stop his involvement in treasure hunting as a prerequisite to obtaining the plates.

Why on earth is this still circulated online as "evidence" Joseph Smith was a false prophet?

Because Satan is abroad in the land.

Back in the 1970s or so a critic of the church was looking through official court documents from the era, found a document relating to the case, tore it out of the records book, smuggled it out of the building, and declared that the document was a conviction & fine.

The best guess is that it's actually a bill for a pre-trial hearing, but the person never allowed third parties to inspect it and once the authorities regained possession of the document they sealed it away to prevent other people from trying to steal it.

This does not make sense to me. Such records are public.

There are critics of the church who feel that the ends justify the means, and so they have no qualms about doing Satan's work in God's name.

Yes, and silence in heaven...

Don't think I ever heard that one, but it's approximately as funny as the broad thing.

How do you know there will be no women in heaven?

Revelation 8:1

Quote

1 And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.

Yeah, not funny.
