Rye bread, Swiss cheese, Pastrami, sauerkraut, Russian dressing.

I like Swiss cheese.  But I’m not very fond of rye bread, pastrami, sauerkraut or Russian dressing.  But I love a Ruben sandwich.  Is that weird?  Anyone else have the same experience?  Or can you think of something made from items you don’t really care for - that in combination becomes excellent?

And it’s pastrami not corned beef.  And Russian not Thousand Island dressing.

Corned beef is Irish.  Pastrami originates from Romania.  And the Ruben sandwich is a Jewish American dish.

Go figure…

I love Reubens, but I use corned beef.

I'm not Russian though.

If they use pastrami at restaurants I'm not opposed and still love the reuben.

I am not the type that dislikes Rye bread, swiss cheese, sauerkraut, or Dressings in general.

I had a kid or two that hated tomatoes but loved ketchup.  They hated tomatoes so much they'd take them off of their sandwiches and hamburgers and such.  Then they'd pile the ketchup (Catsup) on.

I love reubens.  I almost never buy them because they are usually among the more expensive sandwiches at restaurants. We usually don't have the right ingredients to make them at home., so, I rarely get to eat them.  And it is the rare sandwich shop that even offers them.

The contrast in flavors of all the ingredients make for a dining experience that is unparalleled.  But I don't like Russian dressing.  So, when I make my own, I leave that out.
