mikbone Posted October 28, 2024 Report Posted October 28, 2024 Rye bread, Swiss cheese, Pastrami, sauerkraut, Russian dressing. I like Swiss cheese. But I’m not very fond of rye bread, pastrami, sauerkraut or Russian dressing. But I love a Ruben sandwich. Is that weird? Anyone else have the same experience? Or can you think of something made from items you don’t really care for - that in combination becomes excellent? And it’s pastrami not corned beef. And Russian not Thousand Island dressing. Corned beef is Irish. Pastrami originates from Romania. And the Ruben sandwich is a Jewish American dish. Go figure… NeuroTypical 1 Quote
JohnsonJones Posted October 28, 2024 Report Posted October 28, 2024 I love Reubens, but I use corned beef. I'm not Russian though. If they use pastrami at restaurants I'm not opposed and still love the reuben. I am not the type that dislikes Rye bread, swiss cheese, sauerkraut, or Dressings in general. I had a kid or two that hated tomatoes but loved ketchup. They hated tomatoes so much they'd take them off of their sandwiches and hamburgers and such. Then they'd pile the ketchup (Catsup) on. Phoenix_person Posted October 28, 2024 Report Posted October 28, 2024 I like ruebens, but I'm not overly fond of sauerkraut (don't tell my great grandfather, he might return from the grave and revoke my German card). Cubans are where it's at for me. My girlfriend keeps making pulled pork so I'll make Cubans for her. 😅 mikbone, NeuroTypical and JohnsonJones 2 1 Quote
NeuroTypical Posted October 28, 2024 Report Posted October 28, 2024 Yes, I'll take "stuff I had to mostly give up after getting dragged kicking and screaming into a more healthy diet" for 1000 please. SilentOne 1 Quote
Carborendum Posted October 28, 2024 Report Posted October 28, 2024 I love reubens. I almost never buy them because they are usually among the more expensive sandwiches at restaurants. We usually don't have the right ingredients to make them at home., so, I rarely get to eat them. And it is the rare sandwich shop that even offers them. The contrast in flavors of all the ingredients make for a dining experience that is unparalleled. But I don't like Russian dressing. So, when I make my own, I leave that out. JohnsonJones 1 Quote
