The Miracle of the Gulls - Faith Promoting or Fiction
MobyMule replied to Snow's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
So what has happened since 52. Plague on crickets or gulls or maybe global warming. Or could it be pest control:) -
If that is the most important thing that someone is worried about then they must be living some kind of good. Most do it that way but honestly I don't think it will be a make or break issue.
-
That is why I said it isn't the congregations job to judge or police a dress code. A Bishop or PH leader only under direction of the spirit should talk privately with an indivdual if there is an issue with dress. PH holders should always wear their best when called upon to perform PH duties when possible. Emergencies happen that may preclude that.
-
I think the main point here is if you are taught that you should wear your best for the worship service that is what you should do with the ability and means that you have. The other people there never should look down on anyone because of what they wear/don't wear to a church service. If you have the means/ability to weare a shirt and tie/dress then if that is what is sunday best then that is what should be worn. If you don't have those things wear what you got the best of. I do agree I think alot of brethren in the PH have the means/ability and still don't follow this practice. It comes down to intent of the indiviual. If they are putting their desire to be comfortable above showing respect in their worship then that is a problem but it is a problem that only a leader should address privately. It is not the job of the congregation to police a dress code.

Amen. I think many need to remember it isn't about being perfect but us living by faith and just doing the best we honestly can and repenting with sincerity when we fall. To many fall into a holier than thou mindset and are judgemental of those whose weaknesses are plain to see when we all have them even though some are not in plain sight.

Well we could become like the airlines and require two temple recommends for those with a weight problem. I mean come on. It is the duty of the Leadership to teach the principles. It is on the member to do their best and be honest in their interview for the TR.
-
I agree 100% with that.

Maybe he gets frequent calls from the SP. I believe in the gift but doesn't sound right to me about the charging $40.

That was some fun reading

Not a smart move at all.

That God was once a man. Well Christ did it why not the Father? mere mortal is an overstatement. The details we don't know. I have never been taught that I would receive a planet of my own. That is through peoples own interpretations of the doctrine taught. It is possible? I guess anything is possible wth God huh? If we come Joint-Heirs with Christ and recieve ALL the Father has what does that mean? Well I guess we will find out won't we.

I would think before the final resurrection before the Judgement. If it was before the 1st then all the work could not be done during the millenium could it.

Question about unworthiness and taking the sacrament
MobyMule replied to Superbaldguy's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
It is a hard thing to do. We remember them when we should not. Is that a lack of faith? We know that when we are baptized we are washed clean yet some still have guilt over things they did before baptism. Same with those who have confessed and made right things in their lives. Do we lack faith that for some reason Christ's atonement doesn't cover those sins or is it the natural man trying to hold on to those thing? Whatever it is I know for some it is a very hard thing to do and for others it isn't. I guess it is another challenge that some face in their lives. But I do know that once people really catch the spirit of what the Atonement is all about and realize it they do seem to become strengthened and able to move past those past sins. -
Question about unworthiness and taking the sacrament
MobyMule replied to Superbaldguy's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I do the same thing. Except we open the doors to the chapel once the sacrament has been passed. This came from our Stake Presidency. The reason behind this was people walking in during the sacrament or after the prayers were said and disrupting the spirit of it. If a mother needs to leave during the sacrament we will offer it to her. But it is to teach people that the Sacrament is worth their effort and is important enough to be on time for. As to the original question i think Elder Hollands Talk in our regional stake conference hit the nail on the head. We need to learn to forgive ourselves. -
Is there a right way and a wrong way to bare a testimony?
MobyMule replied to AngelLynn's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I think the reason is to teach the children in primary what a testimony is and how to gain one. So that they understand that if they get up to bear their testimony in Sacrament it is heart felt and real. Plus I think it just helps children learn the value of giving a testimony instead of them following their friend up to the stand or mic and doing what the others are doing. I would not stop a child from coming up and bearing their testimony. -

I know the feeling. I go through that myself. -

Hehe I read that to the congregation this past Sunday. It worked. We had a very spiritual Sacrament Meeting. -
I have a question related to this. What is the letter of the ex-spouse supposed to have in it for a sealing clearance of the other partner? I know a letter is supposed to be given but what is it supposed to say?
-
Where did you come up with that? I've seen some teaching like that before but outside the Church. Some claim BY taught something very much like what you suggested.
-
Very true. We have to be open to continuing truth and the promptings of the Spirit. We must have a desire to continue to learn of God and his ways.
-
Well people like to put their own understanding of what a god is on it. Will any of the people on this earth supplant Heavenly Father or Jesus Christ? No. Will we be Joint-Heirs with Christ? Yes. The details of how it works we don't know. But we know that God will grant his faithful children with all that he has. What does that mean exactly? Well we believe we have more detail than others.
-
These are the things that are very hard to even comprehend much less understand with our mortal understanding of how we think God operates or how the universe operates. I find that President Young went over many peoples understanding and spiritual readiness in these ideas and doctrines he presented. Most people don't like the details they like things to stay a mystery.

Fast offerings would be appropriate I believe.

While it is not required for a non-member to tithe I would say go by what the Spirit tells you.
