  1. Hi MormonGirl. Just like to say, everyone is allowed to have their own friends, and yes i can see where your mum is coming from, but the other girls probably have their own friends anyway.
  2. It seems to me that there is a lot of "works " involved here, working at keeping the commandments, " working " at being like Jesus, and more, its so easy to see isen't it really. How can somebody claim to love Jesus and not want to follow his "works". Wouldent it be nice to love Heavenly father and Jesus, and to be able to do what one likes through life and keep saying "OOp's sorry".
  3. Hi Dove, i feel that the words below do indeed depict the time that Jesus visited the peoples of the ancient america's and they say that when the Spaniards landed the people thought that the " white gods " of their ancestors had returned. This is good enough for myself and others to go with the fair haired fair skinned theory WHEN CORTEZ and his soldiers arrived in South America, they were welcomed by the Indians as the ‘White Gods’ who had visited their ancestors in the very dawn of their history, bestowing upon them the blessings of civilisation. The Indians were soon to learn that, far from being ‘White Gods’, the Spaniards were robbers and murderers, inspired not by benevolence but by lust for gold. The Spaniards, on their part, were awed by the magnificent temples and palaces and by the profusion of gold objects. They found the Indians enjoying the benefits of an evolved civilisation. Their kings wore robes of Tyrian purple (the Phoenicians obtained this dye from a type of shellfish). They wore crowns; sat on thrones: employed heraldic devices and standards. They used cups and spoons. The Spaniards were astonished to learn that their priest taught about the Flood, the Tower of Babel, Heaven and Hell and also themes from both Egyptian and Greek mvtlology. They used incense in religious ceremonies; sprinkled infants with water; held festivals which the Spaniards found were astonishingly like their own Church festivals and held on the same dates. They met rulers and nobles who were fair-haired and fair-skinned, who spoke a different language from their subjects and would not intermingle with them. Read all about it here. 4. We are human beings with human beings traits, but there is the law of chastity which is the law, you have come here and admitted that you know it was wrong, thats the first step, and whilst you know it is wrong the Holy spirit will not leave you to fight this desire alone. Try to give in to the spirit, allow the spirit through, think about Jesus, pray, these things will allow The spirit to make your spirit stronger. Many of us have been there, Father loves you and it is a test for you to overcome, Heavenly father will help you if you need him enough to ask of him. But you know this already.
  5. Hi Sam and welcome, there are people here that are so full of the spirit that will make you feel welcome, dont be afraid to ask anything here, nobody is going to judge you mate.
  6. Angela, you fit in with us just fine, if others have caused you to feel bad then that is their downfall. Try to keep your chin up girl, you have your own testimony and that is just fine with Heavenly father. Try to not allow them to make you resentful towards them, show them that you are gods child and are happy with that.
  7. I feel this way. If a person can truly travel through this life striving to be like Jesus Christ, truly loving his fellow human being, showing compassion to ones fellow man or woman, putting others before ones self. Being part of Jesus's own church whilst doing these things, then this is as close to perfection as any man or woman can possibly get. Remember what Jesus said whilst suffering so much pain on the cross. " My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? " We all suffer pain, and some a lot more than others, and because of this pain, be it physically or mentally, we will sometimes doubt our Heavenly fathers love for us. This is why i personally feel we cannot be perfect in every way. I feel that we will be judged by how hard we have " tried " to be perfect. When you do something bad towards another of gods children, and are " truly sorry " and do feel bad about what you have done, and truly repent for such deeds, then heavenly father will forgive you. It is that simple. we have the wisdom of knowing good from bad, right from wrong. Just think before you act. " Heavenly father starts us out on our journey home with just the basics " I used to jump the gun so to speak so very often, this always got me into trouble, but i am trying so hard now, if time permits i will think to myself " what would Jesus do in this situation " and i tell you now, the Holy ghost will guide you through it. Sorry to ramble on.
  8. Hi there PC. 1. No conversion alone does not = salvation, how can it, one must strive/try his utmost to honor this conversion and to follow the footsteps of Jesus christ which would = WORKS. This struggling to do our best would bring salvation which is same as above, but and yes there is a but. Gods house is a house of order, things must be done in accordance to the kingdom of heaven who do you think Jesus was talking about when he said the things below, to me he is saying you must follow me and do as " I DO" in my ways and not in the ways of man. So even though those attributed to below "THOUGHT" they were doing gods will, they were not. There is a right way and there is a wrong way, It is Quoted by jesus himself. And i am honored to be able to say that " The church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints" are doing it the right way. "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me'" Does the above quote sound like we are saved by Grace alone, of course it doesent.
  9. Jenamarie i am following you now, ( me thinks ) In my view there is only one circumstance in which a person could deny in order to not recieve salvation, that would be that, whilst having a testimony and be full of the spirit, to then knowingly act against heavenly fathers will, even knowing that he is fighting against the spirit of god. I do not feel that a person that has had his or her testimony taken from them and then falls into bad ways would not fall into the above category.
  10. When Jesus says " follow me " i am sure that he means more than just believe in me and you are saved, he is saying, follow me, walk where i walk, walk in my steps, be like me in all ways. And all this would be to love one another, the way he loves us, be compassionate towards your fellow man " and woman ", help others, and in general keep heavenly fathers commandments. Oh joy, wouldent life be easy if all we had to do was to believe in Jesus
  11. I saw a program on the tv about a year back, and it was revealed that the catholic church done the archeological dig, "behind closed doors", and nobody from outside of the church was called to be witnesses to what should have been the greatest discovery for the church in these days. This may be of interest Between 1939 and 1949 the "Vatican-led" archaeological team overseen by Monsignor Ludwig Kaas, who had overall authority over the project[5], had uncovered a complex of undoubtedly pagan mausoleums under the foundations of St. Peter's Basilica, dating to the 2nd and 3rd centuries.[6] Construction of Constantine's Old St. Peter's Basilica and of foundations for Bernini's Baldacchino destroyed most of the vaulting of these semi-subterranean burial chambers. Among them was the so-called "Tomb of the Julii" with mosaics that appeared to be Christian. No mausoleum had ever been built directly beneath the present high altar of St Peter's, which did however contain shallow burials, one dated by an impressed tile to the reign of Vespasian; they had been attended with care, as later burials clustered round but did not encroach upon the space.[7] Most impressive was the small niched monument built into a wall of ca 160. Here you can read the whole article. Saint Peter's tomb - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  12. skalenfehl Wrote, " He is the source of all truth and if we are willing to sincerely seek that truth " There you have it, " sincerely seek the truth " and not just to gain points. Do you think we would have any reason to Lie to you, what would we gain from that. Yes everybody that does good in the world has the Holy spirit "visited" upon them, that feeling of having done good, it is nothing like being proud of what you done, but doing what is natural to our spirit, for the good of mankind. Now think of this comfort concentrated a million times, and having this all the time, that is what Having the Power of the holy ghost residing with you is. Yes i am able to tell you this, because i do have this comfort, i have this now whilst writing this post, i do not write to cause contentions amongst you, i try with all my heart and soul to try to make you understand how important the Holy Ghost is, he is not in "any" book, he does not come forth from the mouth of man to gain riches from Christs followers. Do you not feel that this is true, Just love him, Almighty god, and Jesus, and i tell you now that he will visit you, and with a great power. I write these things plainly for all to see, no scriptures mentioned, for what good can they be if you deny the power and spirit of your god who is in heaven. Nothing we say can make you believe that, to you it is as fanatical as telling somebody " i just seen micky mouse walking into the supermarket, it is something one has to experience. not proven. Even when archeological evidence "is" found to uphold our beliefs, do you think for one minute that old nick will not fight to stop people believing in this evidence, of course he will. It will be believed by those whom our heavenly father thinks fit to send the Holy spirit to visit, and them only. So guys, believe what you will, but you will never believe until you ask your father in heaven for the truth of these things, nobody here has this power to convince you, god alone has to do this amazing thing. LDS members are not a bunch of cranks, they do nothing that is bad in todays world, they try, and this is the big word " Try " with all their hearts to follow Jesus and make their decisions on what he himself would do in their situations. And this is why god has put a living prophet here, to guide us on our way. So if you really want/need to know do not be afraid to ask of " Your father ".
  13. The Book of mormon for anyone wanting to know the truth of the church is much more than a just "place to start" it is the beginning of the lds scriptures, through this book one will know whether the church is true to heavenly father and Jesus, but he/she must ask for the right reasons, and the right reason would not be to cause contention among the children of god, the time to ask of heavenly father would be when you have read something that fills you with joy and happiness, or even sadness for the people of the times this was written. Not thinking " Hmmm i have got them on this one" lol, you will not get an answer. Your inquiry must needs come from your heart, with love and a true needing to know. Oh heavenly father please send your spirit to witness to me if the joyous and sad things i have partaken of in this wonderful work is true, father i am in need your loving guidance. Father i ask these things in the name of your loving son Jesus Christ, Amen.
  14. Hi there August. I really do think that you underestimate the true power of the holy ghost, why would you call yourself a Christian just because man has told you things about Jesus which you "think" to be true, we know without a doubt, the spirit has made it known to us. Why not read the Book of Mormon and then if you really want to know ask of god, who will manifest the truth to you, by sending the Holy Ghost to bear witness to you of these things, How simple is that, don't be afraid of heavenly father he loves you, and waits for you to ask. Really August the Holy spirit is so, so important in all this, he holds us fast, he gives us our testimony, not man. There is a living prophet on the earth today, and one day in the not to far future all mankind will know this, there will be those that are full of greed and hate that, even knowing this to be true will still rally against him for fear of losing their wealth.
  15. What it comes down to is this, imho, is caffeine a wholesome substance to put into our bodies. M.o.E is right when he says that it is not doctrine, but we know what kind of stuff we should not drink because of some of the ingredients that they contain, and is it prudent for the well being of our bodies, i am no scientist so i have to go by what i am told or read on the subject.
  16. What it comes down to in my opinion is " SACRIFICE " The tougher it is the bigger the sacrifice, and your blessings will be many for this. Jesus made the biggest sacrifice of all by putting himself forward knowing the physical pain he was to go through for us.
  17. Hi Debi, i have no view on this, but i do await like yourself other peoples views.
  18. In the name of Jesus Christ our lord and savior. I would normally finish a prayer thus " i ask these things father in the name of Jesus christ "
  19. We should address our prayers to heavenly father in the name of Jesus.
  20. Women are indeed the loveliest of heavenly fathers creation on the earth, yes they are soft as someone has stated " not to doughy though lol" A woman's beauty is in her heart and soul. You just gotta love them, it cant be helped.
  21. Hi Kenneth, i am just up the motorway from you, in sunny Bedfordhire. Welcome, you have come to the right place, there are so many good folk here, LDS and Non LDS. We do sometimes get a little bit of nitpicking going on but that soon gets nipped in the bud by the mods. I have had my butt kicked couple of times for not being as sensitive as i should have been when starting topics, but i am learning by reading a lot on here how to word things so as not to upset people. There are some very knowledgeable and wise guys and girls here, do not be afraid to ask them anything.
  22. Have to go along with you on this tom, and also would one not have to " further translate" these scriptures in order to put them into "plain English" i think this would be frowned on by our church leaders if so.
  23. Hi welcome to the site Kitty nice to have you on board.
  24. Wingnut you are so right there about the spirit being present. A while back i was walking back from my local shop, i passed some Jehovah witnesses knocking on doors, i got to my house and thought " right i am gonna be ready for these guys " there was no spirit present, i was feeling so full of myself, really wanting these guys to knock. Well i gets the knock on the door " great "and i was there very quickly with little bit of arrogance. Well these guys proceeded to walk all over me, i couldent say nothing, they had the answers to anything i said, they had me stumped so to speak. Yes because of my arrogance, the spirit was not with me, i felt nothing but alone in my battle, and believe me it did feel like a battle, i was so glad/relieved when it was all over. I Would not take on these guys on my own again believe you me. All i could do after was to pray and ask forgiveness of heavenly father for the way i tried to take up arms to these very dedicated guys. I know he forgave me because i felt the warmth of his love enveloping me straight away, just like any loving father would do after showing their children a hard lesson in love and kindness towards all mankind.
  25. It was me who mentioned " Lemonade " i was getting at the fact that even lemonade would be preferable and more suitable than Alcohol.
