  1. Hahah. I saw Frankie Valli in concert. He came to my grade school and all the lady teachers looked like they were going to pass out.
  2. Like ferretrunner stated Pagan is an umbrella term. I wouldn't compare it with the term Christianity however as all Christians worship Christ. There are many different groups like Asatu who prefer to be called heathens rather then pagan. They try to be as historical accurate as possible to the old religion,(reconstruction) where as others such as Wicca can be eclectic, and take theory, practice etc. from all sorts of pagan groups. I would also point out that not only do pagan not worship Satan but most Satanist don't. They don't even believe in him (as a person in the Christan Jewdeo sense) And if anyone understands how the meaning of symbols can be misconstrued it would be the Mormons Navoo temple Have a good Freyjas Day
  3. It is recommended 1 minute per year of age for time outs. Younger kids have short attention spans so after 15 min many kids won't even remember why they where put there in the first place. It is counter productive.
  4. Not to mention Alcoholic companies are huge corporation that have their hands in lots of pots. A trip to Sea World means you supporting the alcohol industry.
  5. Don't quote me but i'm pretty sure only the deceased can be sealed to the deceased and living to the living. I
  6. You left out my favorite. Elisha and the bears. The advantage of literalism is a lack of conflict with other stories in the bible. If donkeys don't talk because it's not possible scientifically what makes walking on water real? If the world flood didn't happen because of the mathematical impossibility how did 2 fish and 3 loafs feed thousands? I should note i'm not a bible literalist and think many of the storys ,including the NT, are embellished.
  7. Yes soldiers will be soldiers. And deviants are not unique to any gender or sexual orientation. There is the system to punish the behavior. But there is also a way to cut down on it as well. With straights it's gender segregation, since gays cannot be segregated it's DADT. I should note I think it's pretty ridicules to discharge a troop based on the policy in many cases. I have known gay service members, who were as good as any other, who had understanding supervisors take them aside and emphasis the policy rather then take it up the chain. I also think it becomes less of an issue the further one advances in the service.(at least in the airforce)You gain more privacy as you advance.Barracks in basic - 3 in a dorm room for tech school - single dorm room at duty station- base housing or apartment after hitting senior airman But the MTIs and MTLs (aka drill instructors) have more then enough to worry about. I believe it would make their job that much harder if DADT was dropped. It would require an extra amount supervision, same as if basic/ tech school living conditions were made co-ed. I agree a more progressive approach could be used. DADT could be treated like alcohol use in the Phase program (don't, know what the army called it). DADT could be followed throughout basic, tech school, phase 2 training, but dropped once they get privacy at their first duty station. (Don't know how to work out deployments) But i think many (on both sides of the issue) would see this as an opening to rescind the policy altogether so many gays would complain that they have to wait to be open and it's unfair, while many DADT supporters would complain it will lead to the death of the policy and be unwilling to compromise. However in many situations, basic and tech school especially, allowing gays to be open is the equivalent of tossing men and women in together. It don't mean something will happen, but now it can.
  8. Yeah the groups for the most part can be pretty pointless. But the quizzes are dead on how else would i know I'm house MD, a werewolf, a rottweiler, a 1965 fast back, and all those other important things you don't learn about yourself anywhere else.
  9. That is precisely my point. Even though there are written policies in place to protect service members from sexual misconduct the military still takes extra precautions (like separation of men and women) when possible to prevent "stirring up a hornets nest" If POSH isn't good enough to for the service to drop it's extra precautions and start making basic training barracks and showers, coed why would it be good enough to protect open homosexuals? You prevent "hanky panky" by separating people from those whom they desire sexually. The military does this based on gender as it is the status quo. Open homosexuality put a wrench in this system. Letting gay members be open about their sexuality in such an environment is the same as mixing men and women. It doesn't mean something will happen, but it makes it easier. P.S Interesting read on the general order. I memory severs me right the incident was in a tent city, so sharing quarters was not an option and it could have more to do with the where it occurred rather then the what.
  10. what i found hot coco contains about .62 mg of caffeine per fluid ounce Caffeine in Hot Cocoa so an 8 ounce hot coco drink would have about 5 mg of caffeine Starbucks hot coco contains 15mg per 8 ounce cup starbucksĀ® beverages | Starbucks Coffee Company or 3x the amount one would expect from pure hot coco. I don't know if you can get the exact ingredients list for their mocha syrup but they are adding caffeine somehow.
  11. no. especially for us last minute budget shoppers. i don't want to be a sexy 60s swinger but that out dated Austin powers outfit is, on sale:D
  12. I don't know if the army has more money (they don't build billion dollar jets) but in the Airforce your first 3 years, for the most part, (if unwed/ enlisted) are spent in the dorms I think you need to define quarters for the civilians. Again my experience is limited to Airforce but i think most think quarters like Full metal jacket style barracks. Which is nothing like what we had.(when we finlly had co-ed living) I shared "quarters" with women in that they were living in the same building. In fact I met my wife because she lived just below me. But there was still quite a separation between men and women as far as privacy is concerned. I think the camaraderie aspect is a red herring. As you point out people from different backgrounds put in such a high stress environment will have there ups and downs. I think those who worry about straights fighting beside gays haven't spent enough time in the service. However I think DADT is a good policy that protects the service and it's members from rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, and fraternization. These things still happen but by separating men and women (as much as they can in the living situation) they are able to cut down on the opportunity for these events to occur. Obviously putting a group of openly gay and straight men into the barracks together doesn't mean things will get sexual anymore then putting 5 women in the barracks with 40 men would. But you wouldn't be wrong to try and avoid the situation all together. Again I can only speak for the Airforce but they are pretty adamant about keeping the members focused on the mission. I know a legally married straight couple who received article 15s for sleeping together while deployed. Why would they want to make it easier?
  13. give me about 4 more years and i might be on board:D
  14. who knows what side hes playing for votes, he's a politician, just a step above lawyers:p;)
  15. While i am an opponent of SSM I actually agree with him.
  16. Thank you for pointing that out pam. That is precisely why i answered the question the way i did. I think some are seeing this as Christian gospel, faith, repentance baptism, change of heart vs no gospel. I see it as Mainstream vs LDS Christianity. Take PC for example. Not only has he devoted his personal life to Christ but his livelihood as well. He goes into a dangerous environment and works to bring Christianity, help and support to the "lowest of the low". I don't know him personally but i think that makes him an outstanding Christian and doubt anyone here would doubt his commitment to God. But he doesn't have the full LDS gospel. He hasn't made a covenant to give up coffee, believe in the authenticity of the BoM, or believe Tomas Monson speaks for God. Does that put him at a disadvantage? I don't think so. How many lives as he changed without the full gospel? How many of these prisoners could he aid as an EQP? We can't know the desire of someone else heart but i think it's safe to say that many without the full gospel are as noble in their desire, and sometimes more so, then those who have it. And without it sometimes it can be an advantage in bringing others into the fold.
  17. I would like to see exercise and proper nutrition become a part of US culture. Rather then trying to find a way to pay Drs and drug companies to treat and manage diseases i would rather see more effort put fourth to prevent it. I would treat the fastest growing and number 2 preventable cause of death ,obesity, like the number 1 smoking. No more cartoons and toys enticing our kids to eat crap. I think it's a shame we have gone so far to combat smoking with bans on advertising while putting fast food joints in schools due to the kick backs they give. I would like to see more insurance programs paying for personal training then gastric bypass and implants.
  18. same one they have at the local tattoo shop. of course they can kick you out, that doesn't work with a 4 yearold.
  19. don't take this the wrong way but in the context of this thread you are the "ignorant". at least that's how i read the question.
  20. i toss my name into the hat. everyone needs a nemesis remember 11 For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things
  21. Assuming they are correct. And the fact that the church does temple work on the behalf of the dead. I believe there will be more non LDS then LDS in the CK. (Plus all the ones who die before the age of accountability. ) It would be much harder for a non lds/ non believer to fall away God based on their knowledge. For a member something as simple as drinking coffee is disobeying God, while for a mainstream Christian it calls for something harder, like murder or adultery.
  22. Good stuff. As Dr Phil said "you can be right, or you can be married" op You can be right with you friends, not with your wife. the sooner you learn that better the marriage will be. Only half joking
  23. Really? I was taught it was a great blessing being born lds and that the "best spirits" were born into the covenant (not sure if that is official doctrine could have been an overzealous teachers opinion) but came to the conclusion that it would be a disadvantage for the reason you cite.
  24. Sounds to me like the wife is being vindictive. It isn't a competition for "who has it worse" but a partnership about what's best for the kids. Nothing wrong with the husbands plan (unless he is leaving kids with grandparents because he can't do it .) My wife has never had to take care of the kids solo , in the same capacity that i do (we have reversed roles) but can still appreciate what i do. Next time husband has some horrible experience, broken bone, football to groin, pinched finger he should suggest the wife does the same, after all she can't appreciate what he's going through without doing it herself:D
