You've been mostly dead all day. We'll never survive. -Nonsense. You're only saying that because no one ever has. I swear on the soul of my father, Domingo Montoya, you will reach the top alive. Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while. That's right. When I was your age, television was called books. Excuse me... Pardon me, Please it's important... Fezzik, please? -EVERYBODY MOVE! Tyrone, you know how much I love watching you work, but I've got my country's 500th anniversary to plan, my wedding to arrange, my wife to murder and Guilder to frame for it; I'm swamped. -Get some rest. If you haven't got your health, then you haven't got anything.

Inviting the missionaries for dinner
skippy740 replied to Dreams_Of_Deutschland's topic in General Discussion
This policy is not about 'restricting dinners'. This policy is about ensuring that evenings are being spent working "in the field" with investigators... not "chatting it up" with members. Now, if it were me, it would depend on the status of that particular family. A less-active family would count "double-duty" for a dinner and a spiritual discussion. A dinner with the Bishop... should conclude earlier so missionaries can spend their evening time as wisely as possible. -
Deathbed conversion?
skippy740 replied to dahlia's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
With that in mind, I wonder if someone who has ever served as a member of a Mission Presidency might have the answer to this? I would think that under such a circumstance, the Mission President would have to know and possibly offer a solution? -
Last night's episode reminded me of you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r--XaPsLHqU

If we could have the "main page" links, with this discussion forum format... it would be perfect.

All 7 seasons of Burn Notice is on Netflix. The Mentalist has been a good show, but they're struggling with their new identity since ending the "Red John" story line.

Letter from the Church to Ordain Women group
skippy740 replied to pam's topic in Church News and Events
I could envision that a meeting of some of the Bretheren went something like this: "We got a letter from this group that feels that mormon women don't feel included in the church. Do you think they're right?" "We are operating under the doctrines of the church... so I wonder what we can do that isn't spelled out in the scriptures?" "You know, women haven't said prayers in General Conference. Is there anything in revealed scripture that it has to be a priesthood holder?" "No... as long as the presiding authority is present, anyone can offer a prayer for the meeting." "What about the conference center? We've got lots of pictures of the current and past leaders of the church... how about the Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary General Presidencies?" "Yeah, we can do that." "Does it matter where the Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary General Presidencies sit in General Conference?" "No... why not have them more prominent, and not on the side?" "Yeah, we can do that too." "Let's make sure we have a female Public Relations Representative to respond to this, or it may cause further ill-will." "Yeah, we've got a few. I've got one in mind. I'll ask her to address this question and concern." "Okay, but now we've got this other group that wants the priesthood." "Sorry, but until new revelation is received on this, we cannot divert from the way the Lord wants it done. What we've got (and other things in the works we may not yet know about) will have to do for now." -
If you don't stop it, I'm going to stop this car and make you BOTH get out and WALK! :)

Unless one is excommunicated, one still (always) presides in their home, wears their garments if endowed in the temple, and can perform priesthood blessings (as long as personally worthy and ordained to that priesthood and an office within that priesthood). The keys are of administration... and if we think about it, there are only 5 callings in the ward/stake level that have Priesthood Keys: Aaronic Priesthood: - Deacon's Quorum President - Teacher's Quorum President - Bishop (Priest Quorum President, presides over ward, and Aaronic Priesthood functions, such as Sacrament Administration - within Sacrament meeting, and to those who are sick.) Melchizedek Priesthood: - Elder's Quorum President - Stake President (High Priest Quorum President, presides over stake, and Melchizedek Priesthood functions). It's late right now, but I'm sure there's more to expound upon by referencing D&C 20.

2 of the 12 apostles not at General Conference Sessions
skippy740 replied to pam's topic in General Discussion
I'm sure they rotate which 2 during General Conference so they can all have the opportunity to address us. I noticed the absence of President Packer during conference, but I bet he'll be in tomorrow morning. -
2 of the 12 apostles not at General Conference Sessions
skippy740 replied to pam's topic in General Discussion
In the event of some "disaster" (natural or man), I think it would take two apostles to reconstitute and call new leadership for the Church. But yes, I've always heard of this. I've noticed that whenever the First Presidency travels, it's almost always 2 out of the 3 (it seems). I noticed this at the Gilbert Arizona temple dedication as well. President Uchtdorf wasn't in attendance. -

JAG - you're right... but I guess I'm not that mature... so I still like "smack down". :) -

Deathbed conversion?
skippy740 replied to dahlia's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
Baptisms don't have to be done in baptismal fonts... but at least they are warmer! If someone with such physical impairments could swim, then perhaps accommodations can be made, perhaps at a member's pool? http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yh-GtLr0r1I/UrRXpRObXdI/AAAAAAAABZo/WmiIwtRiWDg/s1600/essex+002.jpg -
What intrigues you to respond to a FB status?
skippy740 replied to Bini's topic in General Discussion
I generally do not "like" or "Share" when I'm told to - such as "Like or Share if you love Jesus". These amount to little more than an old-fashioned chain letter... without the stamp and paper cut. I like kid moments that are shared, but I rarely comment. I also share fun or intriguing stores I find... often commenting on how unlimited the stupidity of humanity can be. :) I also RARELY share LDS/Mormon related memes. One reason for that, is that I'm not out to impress other members by "trumpeting my own horn". The other reason, is that you don't need to 'parade your faith' at everyone who is in your friends list all the time. When I share something, it usually contains an amount of "universal truth" in it that most people can understand and build relations with. By keeping it rare, I hope to improve the receptivity of the message in and of itself... and not "spam your news feed" all the time. When I feel I have something meaningful (or witty) to contribute, I will. For example, I have a good friend of mine that posted about the "Ordain Women" group and letter response. I posted there much of what I conveyed here in another thread. Then got into a very civil discussion with someone who I assumed was a relative of my friend who had chosen to leave the church. She actually complimented me and said this was the first civil religious discussion she'd ever been involved with. I also communicated to my friend to make sure that he was okay with what was going on... especially since it was his family, and I was hoping to make a good impression of faithful members to her.- 18 replies

How do you cheer yourself up when you are struggling?
skippy740 replied to Sunday21's topic in General Discussion
Prepare a great meal myself (comfort food) Listen to audio programs, such as: - The Art of Exceptional Living by Jim Rohn - Lead the Field by Earl Nightingale A longer walk with my smartphone (to take notes). It's amazing what ideas come to you with good exercise! Singing in the car! Either gospel music, or some good jazz. -
I wouldn't let that stop you for one second. First, you'll be legal to work in the USA and you speak English... so no problem there. Second, many job descriptions are "wish lists". I've had many jobs where a "bachelor's degree" was required... but I didn't have that level of education. So apply for the jobs you want and see what happens! Edit: Pam brings up a good point... but you won't know if that's the case until you apply.

My old settings were for 50 posts per page. A lot less "clicking" through threads that way.

The "Change Theme" link at the very bottom left WORKS! I really like the IPS.board theme. It's a much more "traditional" layout.

The "Change Theme" function at the bottom of the site WORKS! :) :) :) The other setting (IPS.Board) is MUCH, MUCH better!
