You are PAID in the workforce. That makes a little difference, doesn't it? What I'm talking about is the supply/demand of volunteers for church callings. One of the messages we use in Home Teaching and in re-activation... is that we NEED them! Need them for what? For service and their spirit... and they need to want it too. There are certain callings that are only for men by revelation: - Stake Presidency & High Council - Bishop (and Priest Quorum President), - Bishopric, - Young Men Advisors (don't tell me that women can adequately do this as young men need good worthy male leaders), - Elder's Quorum Presidency. - Teacher's Quorum Presidency - Deacon's Quorum Presidency There are some callings that CAN be ambivilous, but have generally been gender-specific: - Sunday School Presidency, - Primary Presidency (women are traditionally better with children than men), - Mission Leaders (probably to go out with the missionaries themselves). If, however, the entire Relief Society could all serve in the same callings as the Priesthood (and vice versa for men in RS callings)... then we have a supposed ABUNDANCE of talent available. You might say "where's the problem with that?" The problem becomes that we need less and less 'uniqueness' and needed to fulfill these callings... that we feel less and less special and needed as an INDIVIDUAL. In addition, Men need to be led by other worthy men that they can look up to and emulate. Women should be led by other worthy women that they can look up to and emulate. I'm divorced... but if I want a woman to lecture me about how to live worthily... I'd rather listen to my ex-wife, than someone else within the Church. It's one thing to give a talk. It would be another to have a woman be my Elder's Quorum President for example. I need a leader that I can emulate to help me grow. Gender-oriented leadership helps greatly with this... while minimizing resentments. If this were to occur, I wouldn't bother showing up. I couldn't sustain a leader that can't understand and lead me and be an inspiring example for what men should be. That's why I would go inactive. I want strong and worthy male leadership to show me the way, and to lead and direct our efforts.

There IS a difference. And that difference is cultural and in being an example to your children. Take two widowers who decide to marry one another. Why wouldn't they be married 'for time' in the temple? Wouldn't they have a hard time explaining why they didn't to their children? Teach your children to prepare for marriage in the temple... but you don't do it yourself... even if it is "for time"? I would still be thinking of the example you want to set for your posterity in where you want to be married.

Ordaining and administration are two different things in my mind. Ordination would be okay... as long as the men have a duty and a purpose. So far, men have been the administrators. If the women were to administer everything, the men would fall lower in activity because the duties are being fulfilled.

I can't think of any material difference, except that you would be married in the temple, in The House of the Lord. That alone would make it more special than just the meetinghouse. I am uncertain if you can get married "again" in the temple after having been married elsewhere. It would seem to be a duplication, or a "renewal of vows" kind of thing. The other benefit: You can still have pictures and teach your children to also get married in the temple, because you did it... even if it's just "for time". I know of no difference. It is essentially "til death do us part".

The old Provo Tabernacle had a fire at the end of 2010. In April, 2011, it was announced that the Church will convert it to a temple. Photos: Provo City Center Temple construction -

Two temples (one under construction) wouldn't hurt either. -
Way back a few years ago, my cousin grew up in the Los Angeles area. She went to school in Pennsylvania and put in her papers for her mission. Called to the California Ventura Mission.

Don't worry. The Church closed the Iran Tehran Mission many years ago.

You may be able to talk to the Bishop about financial assistance to get the car repaired. This can be good for two reasons: 1) It could lead to less contact with the co-worker. 2) It can help prepare for a separation, if she feels that's the next step. Of course, such help doesn't come "free". An expectation of service or some church attendance may be requested.

Obsession Causing a Possible Rift in Marriage
skippy740 replied to cecilyhallward's topic in Marriage and Relationship Advice
You can contact LDS Family Services directly without a recommend from your Bishop. You only need to see the Bishop if you need financial assistance to pay for your counseling sessions.- 14 replies

Return Sister Missionary Struggling with Garments
skippy740 replied to aligirl12's topic in Advice Board
My thoughts have always been that how we treat the Garment of the Holy Priesthood... is how we treat and honor the covenants we made in the temple. For example: If one wears the garment "part time"... then are you treating your covenants as though they are "part time"? If one has a habit of putting their garments on the floor, are you "trampling them under your feet"? If someone finds that wearing the garment is uncomfortable, I suggest the following two courses of action: 1) Do you have the right fabric combination? Visit a Church Distribution Center for help. 2) Are you unsure/unclear/confused by the covenants made in the temple? If this is the case, I'd recommend a visit with your Bishop &/or a visit back to the temple for a session. Another area to consider is how the world (media) has shaped our perception of what beauty and comfort really are. I mention this because the OP said something about "feeling attractive in them". This is the world's perception of intimacy and beauty, not the Lord's. If our desire to follow the Lord is HIGHER than our desire to feel the way the world tells us... it'll be a whole lot easier. Just some thoughts to ponder. -

If they aren't bothered by RATS... there might be more going on than you think. I hope their home isn't a candidate to be on 'Hoarders'. I also hope that they aren't losing their cognitive functions. They're your parents, and you know them best, but could this be a sign of some kind of mental instability? If possible, pay for the exterminator services yourself. We just completed a bi-monthly maintenance service from a pest control company for about $40 every two months. It's not that bad. It might be more for setting more traps, etc., but if you have to, just do it for them. No human being should have to (or choose to) live in a house that has rats... ever.

I hope Westboro Baptist Church can find new inspired leadership for their church.

We weren't in the room. I agree with estradling75 that it is the Bishop's job to teach and emphasize the correct doctrines, and then help understand how the member is a full tithe payer - despite local records that could mean the opposite. We don't know if the Bishop was patronizing or clarifying. We also don't know how Doctrine really responded - with defensiveness, or being very calm. In essence, this isn't about the 'technicalities', but about HOW the interview was conducted and the Spirit that should've been there, but was probably lost due to a feeling of contention. I'd have to leave it to Doctrine to determine if he wanted to talk to the Stake President about it. Since you'll need to talk to them for your second signature anyway, you may feel it appropriate to bring it up.

I went to a Shabbat service a few years ago, but it was with a reformed Jewish congregation. The Kantor had a full "band" behind him... and, for me, it seemed a little 'cartoonish'. Perhaps this was due to the 'reformed' vs 'orthodox'? I don't know, but they seemed to imitate what you talked about. I agree it's neat to see and be a part of, but I wish my experience was a little more fulfilling spiritually.

I wouldn't necessarily presume to assume which Christ would 'prefer' or attend first due to any preferences. Besides, whether literal, or grafted/adopted... we are all the House of Israel.

I wouldn't say 'instead'... but perhaps both. After all, the Jewish Sabbath is on Saturday. 3 Nephi 29:8
