I think that most of us would agree that taxes are necessary. The question is....how much should we be taxed and in what manner? We are taxed at the local, state and federal level and I HOPE that we can all agree that our elected leaders.....of both major parties, have proven to be poor stewards of our money. Since we don't all live in the same state, let's focus on federal income taxes. Our current system is repressive to say the least and the tax code is thousands of pages long. So, how can we change it? Would you support? 1. A flat tax? Everyone would pay a fixed percentage of their income. 2. A consumption tax. Everyone is taxed at a fixed rate at the point of consumption. 3. Do you want to keep our taxes roughly the same? Obviously, there are other issues as well. Like capital gains taxes, Estate taxes and corporate taxes. .......that's another issue altogether. (if we really want to see the economy roar, cut corporate taxes to zero, eliminate capital gains for 2 years and then keep low and we would see a robust economy......SIGH....I digress). Any thoughts?

Your arguments might be more convincing if rather than alleging the Bible states something you actually quoted the Chapter and verse to which you refer. Oh, and maybe you could also site your sources regarding Joseph Smith and maybe you could also show us exactly how through actual scripture how our beliefs disagree with the Old and New Testament.

When I first read your posts, I assumed you were 13 or 14 years old. What a surprise to find out you are actually an adult? Your comments are both arrogant and ignorant. Since you already know the answers and believe that you have the ORIGINAL, ACCEPTED and TRUE general teachings, why come here and make silly comments and show how little you actually know?

You mean like.....what a bunch of Pelosi!!?:)

Are you confined somewhere? On medication? A fifth grader perhaps? That might explain your comments. I would really appreciate it if you would back your statement up by some proof. Something that supports your statement. I get it, you don't like Bush......I am not a huge fan either. But, you make some rather ridiculous assertions. Most of Tarp I money was not used by Bush, it was left for Obama. Obama has deviated from the agreed upon framework for using Tarp money, not Bush. Seriously, dump the kool-aid. Obama is behaving just like the man you loathe. I posted a thread that breaks down how Obama is just like Bush. Do yourself a favor and read it.........http://www.lds.net/forums/current-events/20415-obama-just-like-bush.html

I am sorry, but you really don't understand, and it's not because you reject it. I can't explain it to you....again, good luck on your journey.

There are over thirteen million members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and many of those are converts....including me. The questions you have are not new questions, many members have had the same questions and used the same logical thinking as you....including me. This is reality.....the truth will be revealed to the humble seeker by the Holy Spirit. Until you are truly ready to receive sacred, eternal truths you will no doubt continue down the road that you are on. Members of the church are not dupes. They come from all walks of life. Doctors and engineers, scientists and politicians, the very wealthy and those from the most modest of circumstances. I know you think you understand our history and our theology.....I assure you that you don't. The things of God are only understood by the power of the Holy Spirit...........good luck on your journey. I can tell you that the Church has blessed my life enormously and through experiences to sacred to share I have come to know for myself, independent of any other person, that truth has been restored and the windows of heaven are again open.

But Dan Mitchell, a senior fellow in economics at the CATO Institute, said policymakers overstated the dire nature of the financial circumstances to justify the bailout. Read article...

Here is an interesting article.....The Maya and Mormonism

It's not just the bailouts....Tarp I and II and the misuse of these funds. It' the "emergency" spending bill and the omnibus bill that have people angry. The Tea Party's are not in protest of raising taxes on the so-called "wealthy" as HEP states.......it is in protest of the WASTE of tax payer dollars.

I would be interested in hearing why you believe that our faith is not credible and maybe you could explain your assertion that our beliefs are contradictory to original Christian teachings. Historically speaking, your just mistaken, original Christian teachings have been changed by man over the past many years. So, please add some evidences for your claims. As for the issue of "feelings", you really do not understand. These feelings if you will, are the Holy Spirit and it is so much more than a "feeling". Sounds like you have been seeking evidence from sources that malign the church.

It's a pretty big honor to have the President of the United States speak at your University....whether you agree with him or not and I think they should have respect for the Office and show appropriate respect for the man in the office. As much as I am opposed to Obama's policies, I would attend if he were to speak in my town.....because he is the President.

I actually felt sorry for Hillary during the primaries. But, honestly, she has got about as much business being the Secretary of State as Elphaba does. I mean, what was Obama thinking????

President Obama is a charming and very likable fellow....how he ended up with Michelle is beyond me. He has a smile that really draws you in.......Bill Clinton had that type of charm as well. I don't hate President Obama....I do hate his policies. I would gladly take President Clinton over Obama. George Bush was not the best speaker and did an awful lot that I disagreed with....but he was definitely not a puppet. Bush got the same treatment that Clinton received from the Right. Bush was not evil, he was not Hitler and he wasn't stupid.......nor was Clinton evil or stupid. Regarding the OP.......I can see how people might link Obama to the last days. Not becasue he is evil, but his spending policies will ultimately diminish the financial foundation of our nation. As Americans, we should be outraged at the spending. If I had to name the most disastrous policy of the Bush years, it was his fiscal policy. The tax cuts were great, but the spending and growth of the government was crazy. Bush was a big spending liberal and Obama is Bush on steroids. Our country elected a black man-yippee!! Now if we could finally move on from race and really look at the policies and try to be Americans and not kool-aid consumers for the Democratic and Republican parties.....we would all be much better off.

The Democratic Party has views that are incompatible with church teachings. Abortion and Gay marriage just to name a couple of obvious ones. The Democrats also have the reputation of being the anti-religion party....especially the Christian religion. I find it amazing that so many are able to turn a blind eye to these issues and still vote for their candidates. I find it equally amazing that anyone could believe that bigger government is better and that higher taxes and increased government spending actually grows the economy and creates prosperity. Of course, I am also amazed that anyone buys into the Republicans being a conservative party or a party of fiscal responsibility. This quote is attributed to Abraham Lincoln, I haven't researched it to see, but I like the quote and think it is spot on:

I know right....we went from bad to worse. Will we never learn???? and how does one feel awtul????

They are going up on everyone in 2010.....when the Bush tax cuts expire and then you will be targeted. Everyone....the 10% rate goes up to 15%. We all feel the impact of higher taxes. Do you really think our elected leader really express the will of their constituents? Really? DO people really feel like out of control spending is sound fiscal policy? (and that shouldn't be a (D) or ® thing.) Do you really think that Americans believe that higher taxes stimulate economic growth? (well maybe the dumb ones, which could be a very large percentage, so maybe I am wrong on that one.) Somehow the word wealthy gets thrown around like there contribution to the economic prosperity of our country is meaningless or that the economy isn't impacted somehow if taxes are raised on them??
