I haven't read the articles you linked yet, this is just my personal testimony and feelings. We don't know how long Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden... it could be just a few hours to a few thousand years... we don't know. I have yet to see a place where it was revealed to a prophet of God how long they were in the Garden of Eden. Saying that, it is highly possible that carbon dating is correct as far as the age of the Earth itself and man since the fall of Adam has only been on the Earth the last 7,000 years. I do not believe that man evolved from apes or chimpanzees or any other life form. In my high school biology they said apes and in the college biology they said chimpanzees, lol. As for the animals... we are told that every kind of animal was in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve, so I do not believe those animals evolved; however, I believe variations of those animals have evolved from those original animals. This is the same with humans to some extent - I'm talking about minor variations in humans, for example, one person has a big nose while someone else has a small nose, or one person is 5'3'' and another is 6'1''.

When did the ban on Blacks holding the Priesthood start
KrazyKay replied to Avrham's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
If God can create the earth in 6 days, why can't he separate the continents in 1 year? I think you need to read this article, it explains much clearer than I can write: The Gospel and the Scientific View: How the Earth Came to Be But this thread is getting off topic about Blacks holding the Priesthood. -
I still have about 2 hours before my church starts And of course I will be there.

When I think of faith, the song in the children's song book always comes to mind: Also, there are some good scriptures: Hebrews 11:1 Alma 32:21 The Bible dictionary takes these two scriptures and expands on it much better than I could explain, lol. Here is the Bible dictionary explanation: I know for myself, my faith grows and gets stronger the more often I read the scriptures, the more often I sing hymns and songs in the Children's song book, the more often I go to church, and the more often I serve my fellow men. Now, concerning faith, you can pray and have faith that God will heal someone who is sick - but you have to understand that God knows everything about us and He has perfect knowledge and understand of things in the eternal scheme, so only He knows if that person can get better or needs to get worse first. Thus, if it's not His will that someone gets better, they probably won't.

The one and only positive/pro I can see of this program is the short term (meaning 6 months or less) boost to just the car industry. But as for the economy as a whole, nope, can't see a single positive/pro of this program.

I remember reading somewhere that if our government continues on this track - the wealthy will just get wealthier while the poor get poorer and the middle class will soon disappear in the process to either wealthy or poor depending on jobs and how much debt they have. So many times I tell my husband that I can't wait for our Lord to return and the millennium to start, but I know there is still a lot of work to do and things that still need to happen before Jesus can return.

I don't know what his situation was when he was working at Walmart... but I can tell you of my situation with my husband not working or bouncing from part time job to part time job. He has diabetes. Right now I don't work as I go to school full time. We do not have insurance for ourselves or our 9 year old daughter. I have tried and tried and tried countless times to get medicaid for her and for us, every single time we have been denied. It makes me so angry that they say "You have too much money to qualify" when our only income is $1,000 from my parents for utilities and food... our mobile home is paid off and on land we own (not a lot of land, but some land still), and our truck is paid off. But we don't qualify for medicaid? Oh, and we are US citizens, born in the states. But we have a neighbor who is a legal alien from Colombia and that whole family is on medicaid - that dad works at McDonalds and Walmart full time and the mom is a stay at home mom. Their mobile home is also paid off but they do have a car loan. You can see how I view the US government and how this subject is sensitive to me. Ok, I'll get off my soap box and let this thread get back to talking about Cananda's health care. I do wonder, if I move my family to Canada, we would probably be a lot better off as far as health care, but as far as income, we will probably still be in the same boat we are in now until I finish college. Then I would have to deal with finding a job in Canada with a US B.S. degree. lol.

My truck barely qualifies for this... it's a 1998 Chevy S-10 extend-cab pickup and gets on average 17mpg. But it's paid off and we need a truck for our monthly biking excursions. My husband has poor balance, so he has to ride a 3-wheel bike, then we have my daughter's 2-wheel and my 2-wheel bikes. So we use the bed of the truck to carry those. But the point is, if I decided to go with the government cash for clunkers program, then I would have a 10,000 or more loan to add to my bills. I really do not see how that will help, creating more debt? At the same time wasting perfectly good vehicles instead of givingthem to the charities to give to poor people who need a vehicle? Does not sound wise to me at all.

I've never seen Hitler talk/give speeches - I might be a bit young for that, lol. But watch that short video, Obama reminded me of a military officer talking to a group of civilians.

I don't remember where I read or heard this, but I seem to remember reading/hearing somewhere that God created other words with their own Saviors. I can't at the moment, but later tonight I can see if I can find a source for this.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2009 when... 1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave. 2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years. 3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3. 4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you. 5.. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses. 6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries. 7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen. 8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go get it. 10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee. 11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : ) 12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing. 13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message. 14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list. 15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list. AND NOW U R LAUGHING AT YOURSELF

I can tell you that many people here in Texas go to Mexico for health care as well because it is a lot cheaper than US care or heading north to Canada (for many of them). If Obama's plan goes through, I am hoping it won't have the problems the current medicare and medicaid has. Right now my husband isn't working - he is looking but no one wants to hire someone with autism even if they are high functioning - but they won't say that is why, they just say "we'll call" and never do and never answer when he calls them. We've determined it is because of his autism. I'm going to college still working on my B.S. degree. So at the moment we do not have any income except the help from my parents to pay bills (luckily our house and truck are both paid off), which also means no insurance. I've tried getting help from the government with no luck. We were denied food stamps because we don't have a mortgage/rent payments or a car loan and we were denied medicare for our 9 year old daughter for the same reason - no mortgage/rent payments or car loans. I have yet to see anywhere in this proposed healthcare that will actually be helpful to people in our situation.

As I read through this thread I was reminded of a story that I heard one time about faith and how faith without works is dead. The story basically went that there was two guys who needed to mow their lawns. Both guys believed that their lawn mowers can mow their lawn. The first guy was all he did - just believed the lawn mower could mow the lawn, but he did not do any work. The second guy went out each week with the lawn mower, turned it on and mowed the lawn. The first guy just believed the mower would mow the lawn but since he didn't do any work, his lawn was too high. The second guy believed the mower would mow the lawn but understand the concept of faith without works is dead, so he did the work of starting the mower and pushing it around his yard to mow his lawn. If we liken this story to Christ... Christ is the lawn mower and we are the person with the lawn mower. If we just believe that Christ will give us salvation, then we are like the first guy who believed his lawn mower would mow his yard but didn't do the work. But if we believe Christ will save us and we do the work he commanded in the scriptures and through modern prophets, then we will obtain salvation. Christ won't mow our lawns by himself. But he will with us doing out part of the work.

I've been silently watching/reading this thread, but thought I would throw in my 2 cents. I've read and studied the creation story in the scriptures and what the modern prophets have said. No where did I read that this Earth was God's first creation or only creation. In fact, there are a few places and if needed I can pull up the references where God mentions having many many other worlds. Also, in Genesis where it mentions on the first day.... second day.... etc., we don't know how long each day actually was or how long each day took. 1,000 of our days could be 1 day to our Heavenly Father, or God's time can be so different that we can not understand it with our current level of understanding of time.

I don't have a teenager yet - my oldest is 9, but I can say what my parents did when I was in high school. Certain chores got a certain amount paid depending on the chore. Like doing dishes was $2.00, emptying the dishwasher was $1.00, Washing the outside of the cars was $10.00 but washing the inside of the cars was $20.00 (this included vacuuming the seats and floor, cleaning the windows and mirrors, and wiping down the dashboard). Vacuuming was $2.00 for each bedroom and smaller rooms like the dining room, $4.00 for the living room because it was bigger. That gives you an idea of what we were paid. Also, if the chore was not done right, we did not get paid - instead, we had to fix what we did not get done right and only got paid 1/2 of the original paying amount for that chore. This quickly taught my brother and me to do the chores right the first time, lol. As for insurance and gas for the cars, my dad would fill the car up Saturday night and we had to make the one tank last all week or do chores to earn more money for gas. He also paid for our insurance until we got jobs. We had to have a job when we were 17. With our income from the jobs, we had to pay for our own insurance, any gas in the car that was needed more than the one tank a week (he continued with the one tank a week he paid), and anything we wanted that did not relate to school/church, food at home, roof over our heads, or health. So if we wanted fast food or to eat out, we had to pay ourself. My parents would buy us clothes (max $100 worth) each year, any more and we had to find a way to pay ourselves through money earned by chores or part time jobs. Having the part time jobs did help us to learn a lot about how to juggle our time and did teach both my brother and myself good time management skills we wouldn't have learned otherwise.

Best Book of Mormon Readings?
KrazyKay replied to a topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
If I had someone who wanted a feel of the Book of Mormon without reading the whole book cover to cover, then I would recommend the scriptures that are part of the Scripture Mastery from seminary: 1 Nephi 3:7 1 Nephi 19:23 2 Nephi 2:25 2 Nephi 2:27 2 Nephi 9:28-29 2 Nephi 28:7-9 2 Nephi 32:3 2 Nephi 32:8-9 Jacob 2:18-19 Mosiah 2:17 Mosiah 3:19 Mosiah 4:30 Alma 32:21 Alma 34:32-34 Alma 37:6-7 Alma 37:35 Alma 41:10 Helaman 5:12 3 Nephi 11:29 3 Nephi 27:27 Ether 12:6 Ether 12:27 Moroni 7:16-17 Moroni 7:45 Moroni 10:4-5 -
Best Book of Mormon Readings?
KrazyKay replied to a topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
I'm like Miss1/2. I'm also a cover-cover kind of gal. But when I read, I try to read at least 1 chapter a day and while reading, I go to all the books/chapters/topical guide mentioned in the footnotes and taking notes myself either on the side of the scriptures or in my journal when I come across something that seems to speak to me at that moment. Right now I'm reading El Libro de Mormón (yes that is the Book of Mormon in Spanish) and I have my Spanish Dictionary also next to me to help with words I'm unsure of the meanings. -
MarginofError, Thank you... you put into words exactly what I was thinking as I was reading this thread.

I wouldn't say anything but think to myself that you must spend too much time texting, lol. So I'm like Dazed and Confused's user name implies, lol.

We have only 1 girl (9 years old), we've been trying for another child - but found out my hormones are out of whack and the medicine is outside our budget . I told my husband that if Heavenly Father wants us to have another child, I would be pregnant. But I think with my husband's Aspergers that Heavenly Father knows he can't handle more than one child at a time, so I think our next one won't be until our daughter is old enough to help.

THINGS I LEARNED FROM BEING IN TEXAS Armadillos sleep in the middle of the road - with their feet in the air. There are 5,000 types of snakes on earth and 4,998 live in Texas. There are 10,000 types of spiders. All 10,000 live in Texas, plus a couple no one's seen before. If it grows, it sticks; if it crawls, it bites. 'Twiced' is a word. People actually grow and eat okra 'Fixinto' is one word. There is no such thing as 'lunch.' There is only dinner and then supper. Iced tea is appropriate for all meals and you start drinking it when you're two. We do like a little tea with our sugar! 'Backwards and forwards' means I know everything about you! Djeet is actually a phrase meaning 'Did you eat?' You don't have to wear a watch because it doesn't matter what time it is. You work until you're done or it's too dark to see. You don't PUSH buttons, you MASH them.. You measure distance in hours. Like its 6 hours from Houston to Dallas. You'll probably have to switch from 'heat' to 'A/C' in the same day. 'Fix' is a verb. Example: 'I'm fixing to go to the store.' You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked. Yes, Friday night high school football games is serious football! You carry jumper cables in your car . . . for your OWN car. There are only four spices: salt, pepper, Tabasco and ketchup. The local papers cover national and international news on one page, but require 6 pages for local gossip and sports. 100 degrees Fahrenheit is 'a little warm.' We have four seasons: Almost Summer, Summer, still Summer and Christmas. Going to Wal-mart is a favorite past time known as 'goin' to Wally-World. ' A cool snap (below 70 degrees) is good pinto-bean weather. A carbonated soft drink isn't a soda, cola or pop. .. . . it's a Coke, regardless of brand or flavor. Example: 'What kind a coke you want?' Fried catfish is the other white meat.

I'll join in. I do need to read the New Testament again.

I just skimmed the posts, so someone may have said this. I consider dating anytime boys and girls pair off. So a dance would be a date if the boy and girl pair together. If they go to the dance seperately, dance together but also dance with many other kids, then I wouldn't consider it a date. Also, if they go together, but dance with many other kids while there, I also wouldn't consider it a date. It's if they only dance with each other and no one else, then I would consider the dance a date. The same if a group goes to the park and just hangs out - if they pair up while hanging out, it's still a date in my book, but if they don't pair up, then it's not.

What works for me is laying in bed reading the scriptures - usually the Old Testament, lol. Then of course I have dreams about what I was reading. The Book of Mormon I find too interesting, I just want to stay up reading it all until I've read the whole thing and it's 4am before I know it (I have to be up by 6am). I've also tried laying there with my eyes closed and day dream and before I know it, I'm asleep.
