  1. 1) Ready for a story? Well, when I was in high school, I went by my middle name. I was in high school in the mid 1990's. I signed up for my very first email address in my junior year of high school. According to my classmates I was a wee bit crazy because I refused to participate in things that they did. Since I didn't have much of an imagination, when I made that email address, I used KrazyKay as my alias. Ever since then, I have used KrazyKay for many online forums or user name for signing in on different websites. Betcha could guess my middle name now, lol. 2) See answer to number 1. 3) I usually see screen names as a part of a person's personality peeking through. Like mine is a weakness in the imagination department while being considered crazy by those who are of the world, lol.
  2. A better example would be that 1+1=2 is only true in base 10. But in other bases, that is not the case... such as in base 2 (aka binary) 1+1=10 Jennarator... consider your last post laughed, lol. When I read this thread title, I immediately remembered - or thought I remembered, this same sentence "as man is, God once was, and as God is, man can be" from a scripture mastery or somewhere in the scriptures. I could be remembering wrong since I can't find it in my scriptures, lol. Maybe I'm remembering from a lesson at some point. But I do know when I heard it, it made perfect sense to me.
  3. I have never seen an actual DNA strand with my own eyes, or a single atom. I have seen pictures of those. By using your statement there, since I have never actually seen a DNA strand or a single atom, how can I say I know they exist? I can't... I would have to say that I either believe that DNA strands exists or single atoms exists, but I can't say I know they exist. I have never actually seen Jesus Christ with my own two human eyes. I have seen pictures of Jesus Christ. However, I know Jesus Christ lives and that he suffered for me so that I can live again. I know the church is true. This knowledge came from many many many hours of prayer, scripture study, fasting, and more prayer. The number of hours I had spent in prayer, scripture study, and fasting if spent all at one time would equal about a year - maybe two years combined. So it was not a single instant thing - rather a long drawn out study.
  4. I do wish people would keep the drama offline. I am friends with a husband and wife on facebook - not members of any church, they are both atheists - not that that has anything to do with this, lol. But when they have fights - it is all over facebook between their two accounts, trying to get friends to choose sides, etc. It is tiresome and emotionally draining. What is really sad is these two have 4 precious adorable children.
  5. When I saw that, I couldn't help but burst out laughing so hard my husband called from the other room to make sure I'm ok, LOL.
  6. I also want to chime in and thank the moderators. I used to be a moderator of another forum where most of the members are teens and I remember how hard that was - especially with the some of those teens report happy. So yes, I admire the moderators and all they do.
  7. I never really paid much attention to my laughs or thanks counts, lol.
  8. Ram reminded me of a couple I heard about when I was a youth during a lesson about marriage compromises. The husband was a member of the LDS church, his wife was a non-denomination Christian. Both would attend the LDS church Sunday mornings, then attend a local Christian service Sunday evenings. The wife refused to join the LDS church and the husband refused to leave the LDS church... so they had made that compromise and support each other in their own way or worship while still being able to worship the way each individual felt. I was not told if she eventually joined the LDS church or if he eventually left the LDS church.
  9. I have encountered many that say things like this - usually in reference to hot chocolate, chocolate candies/cakes, and sodas (any soda, not just caffeine soda). However, I personally do not see anything wrong with hot chocolate, chocolate candies/cakes, and sodas as long as it is in moderation - and the definition of moderation I believe should be between the individual and Heavenly Father.
  10. This was explained to me is that Bethlehem was a suburb of Jerusalem much like here near Houston, Texas... we have the suburbs of Jersey Village, Cypress, Bellaire, etc. Houston has many suburbs, lol.
  11. I was thinking some about this this morning as I reread some of the responses. We know that everything was made in the spiritual before it was made in the physical. I got to wondering if these signs will happen in the spiritual before they happen in the physical? Which then will make sense, President Hinckley was referring to the spiritual and that the physical will still happen at some point in the future - when I have no idea, lol.
  12. I think it depends a lot on the area as well as how the individuals were raised. I was raised to always invite guests to sit down, offer a drink (usually water, sprite, A&W Rootbeer, milk, and koolaid are things we usually have on hand), and engage in small talk. Afterwards, always say thank you for visiting and walk the guests to the door. I live in SE Texas... some people's homes I visit do that when I visit, and others do more like your friend did. You might feel my house is crowded just because we have so much stuff. I've been slowly working on getting rid of stuff - which has been hard. Not to mention we also have 4 cats and 2 dogs that are ours, and 3 puppies we are trying to find homes for, lol.

    hi

Welcome to the site Lili :)
  14. This is one thing I'm hoping my family never encounters. We paid cash for our house, never had a mortgage. But after seeing this, if a bank does try to foreclose on us, I know we will win the case.
  15. When you fast, it should be for something specific. I used to have a hard time not giving in and eating, but that was before I would fast for something specific. Since I started fasting for something specific, it has been easier. What also helped was asking Heavenly Father to help give me strength during the fasting to not give into eating. This doesn't mean I'm still not tempted, I am... but it is easier to resist the temptation when 1) I fast for something specific and 2) I ask Heavenly Father for help to resist food during the fast.
  16. I don't believe that Satan puts thoughts in our heads. Instead I believe he says things to us and it is our choice to listen to him or to ignore him and do what Heavenly Father whispers to us to do.
  17. When I read Acts, it looks to me that Peter was saying that this will happen in the Last Days... I didn't see where he said that it was fulfilled at that time.
  18. I was reading in a book I recently bought at an LDS owned bookstore near the Houston Temple called 64 Signs of the Times. In this book, it mentioned that the sign of the sun refusing to shine and the moon turning to blood as having been fulfilled. They quote this part of President Hinckley's speech in the October 2001 general conference: I looked up the speech on lds.org (here for those who want a quick link: Living in the Fulness of Times - Ensign Nov. 2001 ) This has me a bit confused. I always took that sign as being literal... most likely to be caused by man during WWIII, or from volcanic smoke, or something else. But seeing as President Hinckley said this has been fulfilled, I'm just wondering how. Does the sign mean a spiritual event that has now been fulfilled?
  19. I agree with what the others said... it is best to stay away from the anti-mormon sites. I had a period when I was very inactive and didn't have as strong a testimony. I know the Book of Mormon is true because of an experience I had as a teen... but I wasn't sure about the church. So I visited anti-mormon websites and compared what they said with what lds supporting sites said. It was not a good idea to go to those anti-mormon sites, although that experience did help strengthen my testimony. These two websites I found most beneficial for helping in debunking the anti-mormon claims: Answers About Mormons and Mormon Belief (LDS FAQ - Latter-day Saints) and Book of Mormon on Trial
  20. This would be a case by case situation. If it is something that both the husband and wife agree on, then I wouldn't see it as abuse. If both partners don't agree, it can eventually lead to abuse. We have to remember for something to be considered abuse it has to be continuous over a period of time - unless there is a physical component that can easily be documented. Some things I would consider weird, deviant (such as using those "toys" found at those adult stores)... but not abuse if both partners agree to it. As for refusing sex, it would depend on why. Every individual is different, so is every couple. But sexual abuse would be where the victim does not want/agree to what is being done and the abuser doesn't care - just continues it. As I said in my last post, my ex-husband engaged in sexual abuse. I really don't want to go into details... All I will say he was into using ropes and I was not. I have completely forgiven him, I still love him. But I will never go back to him - I do not want to experience that abuse again.
  21. I feel that porn is wrong on many levels. But the most important, God's Spirit will leave when a person views porn - as others have stated who have viewed porn. I admit, I have viewed porn. This was when I wasn't active at church. I also remember that gut-retching feeling of the Spirit leaving me when I looked at porn. A while back I was interested in how the brain works. I remember seeing an article about brain research that basically said there are parallels between drug use and heavy porn use as well as strong parallels between the withdrawal symptoms of drug abusers and heavy porn users.. I found that interesting. .
  22. I know that now... I didn't know that when I was 8 years old... nor did I know about all the negativity that is associated with politics not to mention all the anger some people have towards mormons. At that age, I thought everyone didn't care what religion someone was as long as they went to a church. I was very naive at that age, lol. Not to take this off topic... I should have expanded what I believe now... if we have a Mormon president, he/she would probably attend church on Sunday where ever he/she happens to be that Sunday... but I don't think he/she would have time for regular temple attendance. He/she might attend the temple once or twice a year - time permitting... most likely it'll be when he/she takes time for a family trip.
  23. When I was 8 years old, I wanted to be the first female president and first LDS president. I was asked the question about going to church and the temple. At that age my answer was that Sunday is for church, I would go to church like anyone else and refuse to do any work on Sunday. And that I would go to the nearest church where ever I happened to be at at that time but my records would be where my home was (which at that time was just north of Denver). Concerning the temple, I said I would still go to the temple once a month - same day each month, at the temple closest to where I was at the time. I suspect if we have a LDS president, that he/she would probably do the same as I had said I would do when I was 8 and wanted to be president.
