  1. I bet that getting temple workers to fill the slots would not be that difficult. I know that they don't like 'locals' working on Saturdays because there are so many out of towners who want to be temple workers, and can't take a weekday off, they fill up the Saturday slots so quickly. That aside, I don't think the temple should be open on Sunday because I think that time should be used going to church services. If the temple was open on Sunday I would go, a lot. Having the temple not open makes that no longer an option for me, and I am 'forced' to spend that time at home and at church. I would probably use going to the temple as an excuse for not going to church. I think the policy is a good one, and I wouldn't question it!
  2. And I'd keep them to wear under the same shirt... why not!?!
  3. My dog Sophie, had a litter of puppies a couple of years ago. We had 6 girls and 1 boy. All the puppies have gone to wonderful homes. I haven't been able to see most of them after they left for their new homes, so I wanted to have a birthday party for them. So all summer I have been trying to find a place to have the party, to no avail. So finally today I found the right place, but we will have to wait until spring. So that gives me more time to plan this party!!! We are going to have it catered. I am going to have a photographer, and we are going to play lots of games. I don't have my list of games with me at the moment, but one of them is where the handler has an egg in a spoon (same hand as they hold the dog's leash in) and they run around a course. The dog has to heel and not pull other wise they loose the spoon. Another game is an obedience game where they have to run a little course, with sit, stay, down, and other commands like that. Another game is where we feed the dogs crazy dog friendly things like olives, and carrots. If a dog refuses to eat one of the items, they are out of that round. We will have a 'cutest puppy picture' contest. Oh and we are going to have the 'best puppy trick' contest. I am going to give out trophies and metals. I think it will just be a lot of fun all around!!! So can anyone else think of things to do at my puppy party? We are thinking about having a CGC instructor there to certifiy the puppies CGC if the owners want. I thought that would be fun too.
  4. I pray for this poor woman, and all the others like her in this world who have been tortured and mistreated. It is a sad thing that our society (human society) allows these things to happen, and I pray that Heavenly Father will guide us and lead us out of these barbaric practices. I think that this example can maybe shake us up to look in our own lives and try to find things that we do that are just as displeasing to the Lord, and try to put an end to them. That said, I don't think war is the answer. Perhaps a more diplomatic solution. Sanctions of some kind, something that let's SA know that we do not approve of those practices. In any case, it is perfectly acceptable for us to pray for them, and for the victim. Let God have mercy on those who unjustly convicted and punished her.
  5. I know that my current bishop counsels me, and he does so guided by the holy spirit. It works very well for him (and me), and he does a wonderful job. He says that he has keys that allow him to be able to feel the guidance of the spirit, to help me in the best way.
  6. You could try accupuncture (sp?) also. I've done a lot of that, and sometimes it helps!
  7. Ya ya, have you talked to anyone professional about this? They can help ease your suffering.
  8. This isn't going to help any, but for pain I take Lyrica and Norco. Nothing else even touches pain, for me.
  9. "Authorities say a California couple who suspected their 15-year-old son of smoking turned to a man relied on in their church to violently discipline children." That's why I was bashing the church. Seems like it may be a common place thing in the church, which to me, is sick. We need a little smiley face that throws up. :)
  10. It's just me and my boyfriend (and our dog)... no other players... I got mario carts, zelda princess, nascar, and some wwII flying ace game... I'm thinking about getting one of the big game hunter games with the gun, and another mario brothers game. I want to get him a hockey game too, and I would also like to do something like need for speed (played that on the computer, where you can be the cop or the bad guy, and you try to chase each other off the road) I got two of the little car wheel things.
  11. Okay, Christmas is approaching... I need to know what you guys think the funnest Wii games are (for adults).
  12. It's hard to believe that there are still churches like this out there... sick. U.S. News - Officials: Calif. parents outsourced beating of son
  13. Here's another one... I'm starting to worry with all these angry dogs out there... I'm taking away all of Sophie's guns, TODAY. U.S. News - Another dog shoots hunter, this time in Florida
  14. I don't remember the exact details but I remember reading a little story in the Ensign that seemed to indicate that it was only appropriate to recieve one priesthood blessing per 'problem', so if you have asked for a priesthood blessing for a medical condition then it is up to you and your faith to recieve the blessings associated with the priesthood blessing delievered, and it wasn't exactly appropriate to keep getting priesthood blessings for the same issue. I'll try to find it, but it was a long time ago.
  15. Okay, so basically, the first degree is for servants (those who didn't find the 'one'), the second degree, we don't know, and the third degree is for those who did get married, and they are considered exhaulted. Is that it in a nutshell?
  16. That's funny! I remember when I was a fairly new member to the church hearing a single sister ask a couple if she didn't get married if she could be a servant in their 'celestial household'. And I was thinking, huh? But I later figured out what she was referring to. Oh, and the couple in all seriousness said, yes. Personally I think it's a little too early to start recruiting servants. hee hee hee. Too funny.
  17. I helped in the nursery, once. Kids aren't really my thing, but for some reason I was called to fill in for a gal who was having surgery. There were about 11 kids with me and one other gal watching, and then one of the parents stayed with her daughter. I was so glad she stayed because her child was OUT of control. The mom finally ended up laying on the floor with her legs wrapped around the kid trying to hold it down. It was actually kind of embarassing. I'm not sure if the child had some kind of disability or if it was just a behavioral issue. But I don't know what I would have been able to do if the mom hadn't been there. I made it though! and all the kids lived!!! Gave me a lot of respect for those who do that every week! wow!
  18. I understand that to recieve the highest degree you have to be married. I am more interested in the other two degrees and how people recieve them. What allows you to go to the second degree rather than stay in the first?
  19. Spastic, I want to say how happy I am for you, first that you have found love, and second that you are investigating the church! I can only imagine how it would feel to go from not believing that there is a God, to feeling the influence of the Holy Spirit, and developing a relationship with Heavenly Father. I like you and I hope you stick around the forum! I'm praying for you, and hope that you find the truth you are looking for!
  20. Okay, I'm gonna ask a silly convert question... We talk about the three kingdoms of heaven, and in another thread it was just mentioned that the CK is also divided into three 'sections'... I have heard this before, but I don't really know that much about how people are divided into those three sections. What qualifies (or disqualifies) you from each level and what blessings are attached to each level? Is there a name for the first two levels?
  21. I have to agree that the post about music's wife was in bad taste. I'm sorry Eowyn, cuz I love you, but that just wasn't very nice!!! A lot of us share some pretty personal things on here, and I know that I kind of expect people on here to respect my feelings. Even tho it is an anonymous internet forum, people should still try to respect others. Edit: then after I post I see Eowyn appologized so I didn't even need to post this... I'll leave it up, cuz it's my opinion and maybe we can all learn from it!!! love you music... love you eowyn!
  22. And for those of you who are still unsympathetic to those with disabilites (or who don't understand, and would like to), try putting on a pair of ear muffs, or wearing some thick glasses that blur your vision for a few hours and try to go about your daily lives. It is a lot harder and more frustrating than you might think. We should support those with disabilites and try to do everything we can to help ease their suffering.
  23. We need to remember that this is a has a very personal component for Carl. Yes, it is true that someone could be inspired by seeing someone sitting in church even tho they can't hear, but we need to remember that we are talking about Carl's mother, and I think that he feels that it is unfair to her that she is not being cared for by the members in her ward. They are allowing her to just sit in silence (basically) for long periods of time even though they have asked for an accommodation for her disability and seem to be being disregarded. I understand (if he isn't aware of the listening inhancing devices) him not knowing what to do, but I would think he would have some sort of chain of command where he can ask others what he should do to help her, rather than just letting her sit there. There are so many church resources for the disabled, if he would just ask, they would send him the needed equipment. I see a lack of love and caring, allowing her to suffer. I am sorry Carl, and I hope this gets resolved soon. For the others, please be sensitive to Carl's point of view here. This is very hard for him, and he is frustrated.
  24. I think in a way both... If wanting to go to the CK is considered doing things out of 'fear' then I do a lot of the things I do out of 'fear'. I guess I would prefer to think of it as reaching for the best. Trying my hardest to gather in as many blessings as I can, which include going to the CK. But I want to go to the CK so I can be with my Father, who I love. So is trying to return to him, and doing the things I need to do so that I can return to him, considered doing it because I love him and want to return to him, or that I am afraid if I don't do the right things I won't be able to return to him (which would be a punishment). I guess it depends on how you want to define it.
  25. Surprisingly enough I have to agree with anne on this one. I think that a lot of laws (if not all of them) have some basis in attempting to set a moral standard. On the other side of the coin, I think that there should be a very clear separation of church and state, and I think we should avoid doing things like trying to legislate one religion's morals over another (like making drinking coffee illegal or some such thing).
