  1. Welcome to the site!
  2. Welcome to the site.
  3. Maybe I am way off base, but I wish that health insurance was run like car insurance instead of being tied to employment. Wouldn't it be nice if you could get allstate health insurance, and pay for a package that fits your lifestyle...and if your rates get too high you could switch to state farm health insurance...the same that you do for your car. The competition would help the rates stay reasonable, and if you lost your job you wouldn't lose your health care, AND it wouldn't have to be run by the government. It works for cars, homes, boats, etc. why not health care. (I readily admit that I am not fully read up on the subject, so if this is a totally ignorant idea, then feel free to ignore it.)
  4. Welcome.

  6. Welcome to the site.
  7. Having Joe around is just like the good old days with Dan Quale. My parents remember where they were when man landed on the moon. I on the other hand remember where I was when Quale stated that "we believe in bondage between parents and children." Just remember that todays gaffes are tomorrows laughs.
  8. Yep...and his expansion of government size (Homeland security) and influence (No Child Left Behind) are both what I would have expected from the left, not the right. Just goes to show that you never know. On a side note, thanks bytor2112 for always finding the most interesting articles.
  9. It's a great book, but when you can show me a CEO that is as moral as Wyatt, and an industrialist that values real talent as much as Hank Reardon, instead of the "look-dad-I-got-an-Ivy-league-degree-and-now-I-run-my-own-company" folks that we have running our major corporations, then we can have this discussion. In Atlas Shrugged, the government suffocated the talented industrialists out of existance but trying to convince them that it was their moral duty to give their creations to the state for no profit...in the world that WE are living in, the heads of corporate america cannibalized their own companies in order to maximize their personal income at the expense of their employees, and now the government is running around trying to pick up the pieces. Not trying to ruffle anyones feathers, I am a big fan of Ayn Rands works; I just think that it is a little disingenuious to compare what is going on right now to the situation in Atlas Shrugged.
  10. You bring up important questions that everyone should think about. I hope you visit the site often.

  12. I hope that you find time to visit often. :)
  13. I like Obama, but this seems like something that should have been addressed before he threw a bunch of cash at the company. I wish that his team would have approached the bailout with the same prudence and calculation that they used when they were running his campain.
  14. I used to eat out quite a bit, but then I noticed that I couldn't fit into my pants anymore without sucking in, and so instead of buying new clothes I quit eating out. Now I go maybe once a month to get some Mexican food but that is it.
  15. I think that the BYU, Texas A&M rematch from a year ago will be a great game. I'm afraid that my Longhorns won't make it past the 2nd round though. (Although I still have them winning it all on my bracket...i never win those things)
  16. I hope that I am ont taking anyones thougts out of context, but as a resident of the gulf coast, (hurricane Ike went directly over my house) I have lived through a few hurricanes, and went with Mormon Helping Hands to help clean up after Katrina. We have been told over and over again by visiting GA's that these hurricanes, and Katrina in particular DO NOT represent the judgments of God, and that He was not trying to "teach New Orleans a lesson." That said, I have seen over and over again how the Lord has protected members of the church by teaching them self reliance. After Ike hit I gained a HUGE testimony in the importance of food storage etc. Provident living is now one of by all-time favorite sites.
