  1. Sunset, I would check out Maureens advice. I also waited for my missionary and 23 years ago were married in the Salt Lake Temple without my parents in attendance. My parents were inactive and when I spoke with my bishop we told me that a civil marriage was unnecessary and a mockery to the temple ceremony. When I discussed this with my parents they were very saddened that they could not see their only daughter marry. In hindsight I resent being told that then when now they they have softened their opinion in this matter. I wanted to be obedient to what the leaders of the church considered to be right. My parents were at the temple for pictures and they gave me a beautiful reception. They respected our decision to marry in the temple and have held my choice in marriage to the highest regard. My advice do what ever you can to make your parents feels special and included in your very special day. They ring exchange could very easily be left out of the temple ceremony and not even be missed. :)
  2. Sons of Provo http://www.sonsofprovo.com/ Mobsters and Mormons http://www.mobstersandmormons.com/ I have seen the ads for these but I have not seen them.
  3. it could be that for some people like my self i have been using this forum for chat and friends for years before i was a member and now that im not for the same reason i liked the old room my friends there and the fact that it was clean at all times. ← This is not the first time I have heard this about chat and friends.... I think that maybe some of the newer members have come here thinking that our LDS Talk was some place they had used before primarily for chat. One thing that I have asked for before was the ability to tell what religion each member belongs to so that when we read a post it will be clearer when that member comes from. Heather, Is it possible to add that like you have done for our location beneath our avatars?
  4. Well you have shown your damage haven'tt you? It is taught in the Book of Mormon that those who turn away from the light once they have received it go into gross darkness. You have absolutely demonstrated that teaching to be true. ← Having read this I feel sheer panic inside I think it's time for a group hug.
  5. I happen to know Kathy, and I know for a fact you are wrong about her. I don't know a nicer, kinder, more sincere person. I also don't appreciate you gossiping about my friends to the whole world. This whole self-righteous thing is getting old. ← You don't know my Kathy. She happens to be my sister in law ... . But since YOU BROUGHT HER UP....I don't like your Kathy either...I think she is a creep from hell... my priviledge I believe. It isn't my fault she has pulled the wool over your eyes ... just because you have been fooled by her, doesn't mean every one has. or needs to be...talk about being self righteous... take a good look at yourself. ← Oh Dear since you edited your post it's even worse ← Yeah... that John is someone who will be chasing me all over this board to get back at me for something that I never originally said, but he assumed. He is such a dork... I have to vent!!! ← I don't think John Doe is a dork at all. ← LOL... ← Please take Peace in knowing that God loves even when you are a little out of sorts.
  6. It so nice to have you here with us. As soon as thing settle down a bit I just might need so more help. :)

I know there a some out there full of contention,
  10. As you know I am a member and have been for all of my life although I grew up in an inactive home. I have had this discussion with another board member who is also a member of the church. We think that there is still a twinge of the feelings they once held as a member of the church? They like the association of the members? It is my personal opinion that only a few like to come here to destroy something that we feel is good. I had a real problem with anti mormons being allowed to post here when I first came to LDS Talk two years ago. I am with you Heather I would like to know why they come. It's not that I think they are harmful just what they get out of it. I think of many of these people as friends. :)
  11. I also don't care for the gift thing at Christmas either. Too many expectations are centered on gift giving. If the gifts are not what is expected then feelings are hurt. I think that it is best not to expect one thing for Christmas anything you get should be bonus. I have a friend who said the for one year they could only give handmade gifts, That Christmas was the Best Christmas they ever had because every gift given was a gift of the heart.
  12. Ray, don't you know that when you insult someone for the way they dress you insult them personally? If you were to say something about the way they dress that in and of it self could keep people away from the church. I don't think that we will be judged by the way we dress, we will be judged by what is in our hearts.
  13. LOL THat is funny and so TRUE. Don't you know that YOU are the spare tire? If she gets a flat most likely she will call you right? Although it would be nice if it was already in the car just not as her Christmas gift. I also know about the NO's for christmas gifts cause I feel the same way. What are your wifes interests? Does she like sewing, traveling, going to a resort spa? She wants you to look for "clues" through out the year if she mentions "Well that would be nice to have" make a note of it. If she gets just a couple of nice surprises then she will be happy. One year for my mom's birthday my dad bought her a tractor cause she kept asking him the do something about the weeds in the back yard. Every time she looked out her kitchen window she saw that tractor and thought what a big doof my dad was. The tractor never got used and has since turned rusty. Yeah it is a heirloom type of joke that will be passed on down for generations (I hope) Hey just don't do something stupid like Grandpa ----- did and by her a tractor.... Wives feel that their husband should know them like we know our husbands. As a matter of fact, I buy most of my husbands clothes because I know him so well.
  14. When it comes to the way others are dressed I think that it is best for the average guy or gal to teach by example. Pretty soon they will understand that it is important to dress in a certain way. When you are looking to teach someone about dressing "respectably" it is best to treat them respectably. If money is the issue then they can discuss this with the bishop in private.
  15. Snoops? A close personal friend?
  16. Wait. I didn't say that it is okay for Mollys and Peters to offend someone for the way they dress, that would be more like the Letter of the Law wouldn't it? These things should be taught within the confines of a family or close friends not by the average Joe, Molly, or Peter. If on the other hand it is part of a lesson and it is handled with tact then it would be fine. For Brother John to tell Brother Jones that he is out of line for his appearance that would be wrong IMHO.
  17. In other words they live the letter of the law and throw out the spirit... literally. ← Yes Please.
  18. This came to me via email You gotta love Robin Williams...... Even if he's nuts! Leave it to Robin Williams to come up with the perfect plan. What we need now is for our UN Ambassador to stand up and repeat this message. Robin Williams' plan...(Hard to argue with this logic!) "I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of a plan for peace. So, here's one plan." 1) "The US will apologize to the world for our "interference" in their affairs, past & present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini,Stalin, Tojo, Noriega, Milosevic, Hussein, and the rest of those 'good ole boys', we will never "interfere" again. 2) We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany, South Korea, the Middle East, and the Philippines. They don't want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No one allowed sneaking through holes in the fence. 3) All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave. We'll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of whom or where they are. They're illegal!!! France will welcome them. 4) All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit!!!! No one from a terrorist nation will be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself and don't hide here. Asylum would never be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers or 7-11 cashiers. 5) No foreign "students" over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don't attend classes, they get a "D" and it's back home baby. 6) The US will make a strong effort to become self-sufficient energy wise. This will include developing nonpolluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while. 7) Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don't like it, we go some place else. They can go somewhere else to sell their production. (About a week of the wells filling up the storage sites would be enough.) 8) If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not "interfere." They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides most of what we give them are stolen or given to the army. The people who need it most get very little, if anything. 9) Ship the UN Headquarters to an isolated island some place. We don't need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, the building would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens. 10) All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us "Ugly Americans" any longer. The Language we speak is ENGLISH...learn it...or LEAVE...Now, isn't that a winner of a plan? "The Statue of Liberty is no longer saying ' Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses.' She's got a baseball bat and she's yelling, ' you want a piece of me?' "
  19. You are right Winnie. The church teaches perfection but I feel that that is not obtainable here on earth. Those who profess to have "Arrived" by acting like the Mollys and Peters are out of touch with reality IMHO.
  20. Thank You ! :)
  21. Hello and Welcome to LDS Talk. I am so sorry to hear of this trouble. You say that you believe that his discussion has come on suddenly. What do you believe sparked this move for him? Has he said how he feels about his family? Does he know how much turmoil this causes you? There are some members of this board who are past members if the church but still come to our site. Will he support you and what your choices are concerning the church?
  22. An Interesting point. I have been by temples I have never been into before while traveling and I didn't feel I could go inside because I wasn't wearing a dress. Was this wrong not to do a session because the clothes I was wearing were not what I would normally wear to the temple?
  23. Forgiveness is a process. You need to identify the problem, make restitution if possible, and depending what it is you may need to confess your sins to your bishop. Sometimes forgiving ourselves is the hardest thing to do but without that then forgiveness is not complete. The Lord forgives us when we make the effort necessary to seek forgiveness and complete the process.
  24. I think you have strangers all wrong. To me there are certain people that the more you get to know them the stranger they are. That's what I call a stranger. :) The Traveler ← I agree with you Traveler
