Winnie, As another woman I understand your vent. As another mother I understand that nothing hurts as much as when our children are hurt and we have no bandage large enough to make it better. In other words we can not help all of the time. Winnie you are a wonderful mother and it sounds like although it still hurts when your ex continues to hurt them that they are maturing and have somewhat of an understanding of who this man is who fathered them. The real influence in their lives is the great man you are married too. Your children will continue to grow in mature into great people in spite of the antics of your ex. As I see it your children are still very blessed indeed.

How Important Is Regular Church Attendance?
StrawberryFields replied to StrawberryFields's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I would agree with you. There have been days when I have not felt especially well and stayed home...you would have thought that I was near being hospitalized by the end of the day. One the other hand if I had not felt well (I have an illness that makes me hurt and tired) and I have gone to church my day seems so much brighter. :) -
How Important Is Regular Church Attendance?
StrawberryFields replied to StrawberryFields's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Just a question.Did we covenant with God to attend church every week? I know that it is important to take the sacrament each week. Is that what you are referring to? This may be very clear to every one else but I am in a bit of a fog lately. -

So Who Are You Supposed To Listen To?
StrawberryFields replied to Ray's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Ray's Ouote "I say that the only way for any of us to know the truth is by Asking God for wisdom to help us know the truth when we Find it…" Edited because quote didn't come through the first time. I don't usually read thing which have a messed up title (which this doesn't) so I don't know much of what you are talking about here so I took it out of your quote. I do however believe the part I left in your quote. It is so difficult to try to teach someone or in some cases remind people what is true with out the spirit. When people start an argument and leave the discussion behind, teaching with the spirit also leaves. An argument occurs when one person resorts to insulting another personally or what they believe. -
Oh yes, Snow's shrimp does sound good. :) Counting Calories is such a bore. In the summer I like to take advantage of fresh from the garden. My dad has given me some squash and I would love to prepare it without a lot of butter. My grandma used to cook it in tomato sauce. Does anyone have any idea's for squash beside raw in salads or on a veggie plate? He is growing zucchini and crook neck squash.

Shanstress,You are right we have had this prayer discussion before. :) This is just something that we have taught and are still teaching within the church today. If you need help call of the Lord and he will answer your prayers. I have even sat down with my own children as they have needed help and comfort and asked them to pray. I will testify to you that I have seen miracles happen with prayer. Some miracles have been seeing a very upset child suddenly feel comforted and calm down. Other times when I have lost something or I needed to find my way I have prayed and received my answers. I do not believe that we will always get the answer we are looking for but none the less answers and come to me within the Lords time. I also believe that answers come in many different ways and sometimes the answers come from another person. I have prayed for an answer for help with one of my children and I then felt as though I wouldn't receive an answer. I was in a checkout line in the store and heard a casher and a customer talking about teenage boys and my answer was within their conversation. How do I know that was my answer because the spirit bore witness to me and I had been prayerfully seeking an answer. Of course this will not happen if you do not believe that it will and do so with the faith that your prayers will be answered. Not all prayers are for seeking miracles but as you know I also believe that miracles can happen through prayers. I believe that over time my prayers have increased my faith and my faith has increased my prayers. It's like a muscle if you don't use it regularly it will become weak. If you begin to slowly but steadily work on it you can increase that strength again. Sure bad things happen to good people but it doesn't mean that it wasn't because they didn't pray hard enough that it happened. The real test comes from the way they pick themselves up and continue in their faith. We can not possibly know why things happen here on earth. One of the key points to my faith is in knowing that I am not alone even at my most difficult times.

So are you going on one of the soup diets?

I feel humbled by the replies. I think that we all might demonstrate some pride in ourselves as we usually present ourselves clean and groomed everyday. I think the same is true when we treat others kindly and don¡Çt act stupidly. I believe that by doing these things we are also showing pride in ourselves as children of our Heavenly Father. To me pride gone wrong is when we take in tendencies of the natural man therefore seeking things of the world and placing righteous and true actions secondary. So I guess what I am saying it that we can have pride without acting pride fully. Thinking pride fully would be right in-between the two and having pride, thinking pride fully and then acting pride fully which can place others in a position of being hurt.
-
Traveler what you said is really confusing to me. "Pride is what happens when an effort is made (like this post) to excempt one's self from being a problem." Is pride one of those things we should not talk about for the fear of appearing prideful ourselves? And then this..."The worse thing about pride is - any attempt to over come pride only results in one becoming over come by pride." So what do you do if you have developed some prideful ways? Is your only recourse to die a prideful sinner?

If prayer can't serve the individual saying the prayer then why do we teach our children to pray when they are scared etc?
-
Psssst, Hey Disruptive he used " large tiger shrimp" not the tiny ones.
-
Really? If this is an inappropriate story for prayer what would be a better one in your opinion?
-
Prayer is communication with our Father in Heaven. Have you ever tried praying?
-
What is the matter with promoting faith? Without faith there is no hope. Without faith and hope you might as well be a ball in an arcade game bouncing off from one stopper to the next. If you have no faith you won't even try to hit the points, therefore making your way through life pointless.
-
In my post about the importance of regular church attendance I saw the following post from K Anderson K Anderson wrote. It is unfortunate that too many Latter-day Saints are willing to DIE for their religion, yet they will not LIVE FOR IT, is a concept I have created. They will not go to church and there is one simple reason: PRIDE, which is the root of all universal sin with the love of money. The question is: why won't they go to church? Answer? Because they think they have already learned everything and cannot be helped more. The will fall away and will not endure to the end. You can pick them out from the congregations. Tehy wil will become complacent and then they won't care anymore.

So you mean that you are exactly the same way here on the message boards as you are in real life? me too.

Snow, I am not trying to make you feel uncomfortable in the least but I am so pleased that you were able to make this a memorable occasion for everyone involved. I never doubted you could do it for a moment. I especially liked the song. I also loved this part... "Whatever it was - I seeemed to capture an accurate representation of his life - the way he was, the way people remembered it. It was all very moving, for me, for the family, for all those in attendance. I now have a greater appreciations of his qualities... " Snow, I am glad to know you. :)

And I thought I was alone in the "life ######" department....thank you girl for letting me know I am not alone! 2 years of infertility and the lovely side effects of treatment, disease and depression will generally give you the "life ######" attitude...lol...which is one minute reason i was so shocked when i found out i was pregnant...you get used to "NO!" all the time and develop a sour attitude towards the whole thing and Heavenly Father sneaks in a little "yes" just to shake things up... lol now..my child is kicking my kidneys, i'm having a BH contrax and my tailbone hurts like a muthah...time for moi to go lay down...good news is: i renewed my temple recommend after 8 mo!! yay!! we're going to the temple Friday night...now if I can sit comfortably throughout the session!! Hey I want on the band wagon!!! <span style=\'color:red\'>Screammmmmmm!!. Boy does that feel better. -

Yeah, I know why you wanted to be a police dispatcher...you love a man in uniform. -
Winnie, Thanks for sharing that with us it is a great story and one that can help us all. Just recently I was able to do my moms temple work and it was a beautiful experience that I will always treasure. Among the meanness she delivers squeeze in a few meaningful hugs and pictures while you still can. You are a treasure of a daughter I am sure of that. :)
