  1. Anyone know where I can sign up for People Eating Tasty Animals organization?
  2. I think you can forgive them without contacting them.. Altho I think that letting them know is more effective.... however I'd say that if he was trying to make amendments he would not be asking for your location. In this case youre probably choosing the best course of action..
  3. I'd also like to add... that whether or not he's recieved answers to his prayers that you would be a good match for him, he does not have authority oover you, nor authority to recieve revelation for you. Quite frankly if someon came up and told me that they had recieved some sort of revelation from God that i was to be their person, that would raise red flags all over the place. I'd suggest to let him know that he's not for you, especially if you've been praying- you can probably tell him that you haven't recieved an answer about being married to him... and that if God wanted you to marry him that God would have told you. But either way I'd definitely say to deny this person, and if you have told him one or two times and he's still hounding you, you may want to warn him that you'll go to the police.. or even skip that and just go to the police.
  4. THe LDS believe that families are of the utmost importance, however the manner and time that you take build one is between you, your spouse, and God.So I guess the best answer is that the Church really doesn't have one, other than maybe to not shirk parenting. From the word of wisdom that all things must be done in moderation and wisdom.
  5. If you still have a question about it, definitely ask your bishop- he is set as a judge in zion.To me personally sounds like you've done what you needed to.
  6. Glad to hear that your making a comeback :)And now you have experience of both walking in the desert and in the promised land. I know t can be hard sometimes- I know i'm not a very social person myself, both in being a new member to a ward or being in an old one. Until a person's name is removed from the church records, that individual is considered a member of the LDS church, and about the only way that happens is by request of the individual, or partaking in rather serious sin and is not repentant, or decides to fight against the church.
  7. no idea. probably would be up to them.
  8. I think i should clarify a bit.. I was thinking along the lines if there are any other jewish scholars out there who could find the same or similar things that TheKabalist is finding, who have had little or none interaction with the BoM and LDS scholarship that revolves around it. I think that would help establish Thekabbalist's findings. It doesn't matter really that much whether they are dead accurate or not, but the fact that he is finding so much that fits with ancient hebrew as he knows it- and much more than I have previously guessed was in the Book of Mormon. It would basically mean it would be form of witness for the Book of Mormon. It's always good to keep in mind that the book of mormon is not about the physical evidences, but a means to gain a spiritual testimony of Christ, and the truth of his work.
  9. revelations 20: 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. It used to confuse me a lot until I found section 76 of the doctrine and covenants. That the hell where wicked individuals suffer anguish and torment go (or as a state of being), and outer darkness are two seperate things. To sum up what revelations seemed to be saying was that hell would be sent to burn in hell... not very enlightening.
  10. GOd is a Man (or perhaps I should say, the Man) However to define what is human and what isn't in regards to God really doesn't work - GOd really hasnt' sharply defined humanity scripturewise. The other best support for God being a Man, and possibly having been as we are, is in the new testament where christ says he does all that he's seen his father do...and that's about it.. the rest is mainly logical deduction and guesswork. yes and no. If I recall right there are some older manuscripts regarding whats translated as genesis where what was translated as "created" could also be translated as "organised" which would support the earth having been made from material. As to the physical creation of this universe, there is really nothing to go either way with, as we have no idea how God influences the universe (or universes).
  11. COmfortable with? no.. but then God takes us out of or comfort zones many times. Would I do it? If recieved instruction to do it, then yes I would hope that I'd have the strength to do it. Would I jump at the chance? no
  12. actually this may or may not be a misperception- the bible only chronicles a very few prophets... however within the bible there are a few mentions of "the school of the prophets" or something like that. However the book of mormon gives an insight that there can be more than one person with prophetic authority at one time. In the bible probably the best evidence for this would be the apostles of the new testament. there is only one that is given authority to direct all of the church in an area, so for today's time because of technology and culture only one is necessary. However during ancient times such technology and access was not available so there would only be one for a given area ( so far the only ones really known or considered among the LDS is the middle east/asian-Israel area, and whatever area in which the book of mormon took place. APostacy started as soon as correct teachings are taught, however probably the most definitive moment to indicate apostacy was the destruction of all the apostles. there is no definite line to indicate that at this point 100% apostacy was achieved... save that by Joseph Smith's time Christ tells him that there are no churches that are right or that Joseph should join.As to the protection of the church today? Nothing really save for whatever God decides to do in the background and the faith of it's members.. but give it long enough time and it would happen again.... but theres nothing to indicate that there will be a second great apostacy before the second coming.
  13. If you read revelations and also doctrine and covenants 76 there is a time the wicked will have to pay the debt of sin (during the millenial reign), however at the the end, that hell will be destroyed, and after that, only those who are still wicked or who have blasphemed the holy ghost will then be sent to outer darkness, and the rest will enter into heavin (which if put into an lds view would most likely mean being part of one of the three heavens, rather than any specific one)... all the above quote really says to me is that our family sealings wil still be in place and will be in effect in some way... But it does not mean that the a son or daughter who chose wickedness over rightiousness will be guaranteed a place the celestial kingdom. As I am reading the quote it seems to be saying that such family bonds will be an instrument in helping such an individual repent.
  14. I would start with the book of mormon, and here is why- It's entirety is dedicated in teaching spiritual things, and also to do so in a straightforward simple manner. While there are places in the bible that are like that, not all of the bible is that way... and some parts in the bible are confusing...I also suggest using all of them together- if you have the LDS version of the bible, there are many cross references which are generally very enlightening when you go through them while you read thru the books.
  15. Hehe I think I know a little of what you feel.. I think for most of us who seriously dig a little deeper in the book of mormon come to the conclusion that theres no way that Joseph smith could have known all that or have been so supremely lucky to be able to make all the paralells, and etc.. that can be found in the book of mormon... and eventually it comes down to a spiritual quandary: either it came from heavenly sources or it came from devilish ones- and such an answer can only be obtained from geoing to God in earnest prayer and soul searching. My answer is that it is God's hand that has brought it forth.
  16. Yes!, especially if other scholars come to a similar conclusion and can testify that such insights are accurate.I"d buy one.
  17. While i've not ever seen just hair being severed in mayan art... there are quite a few depictions of severed heads being held by hair... altho it's quite possible there is no connection.
  18. we believe that there will be second coming and all the trials and tribulations that will precede it. We believe it to be nearer than later (as in these are the last times).. however we have absolutely no idea when it is going to be.
  19. However I would add, that if you do plan on using a gun for self defense, you better ask yourself if you are willing to use it in such a situation- if you don't think you can, it might be wiser to look into alternatives.
  20. I was never told to tell other students about my religion... however we are tought to be an example and then if anyone asked then to explain our beliefs. yes. I don't know if there is a specific study for LDS.... And I don't know how accurate that study is (in regards to kids of evangelicals). I imagine that a good percentage do fall away from the church to some degree or another, but thats just a blind guess.
