What to do when you question a book of scripture?
Blackmarch replied to GreatFamily's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
1 realise that the books and those who wrote them aren't perfect.2 realise that those who read and study them aren't perfect. 3. realise that GOd has yet to come down and announce the exact meaning of each verse to the world. in light of this when I find something that's confusing i try to find out as much on it as I can, see if i'm spiritually prompted to go one way or another- if I don't get any promptings or any strong ones, then I figure it really does not matter that much, and shelve it for a later date.. perhaps such a time as when I meet God, then I'll ask him and ask what he thinks. -
Down at the very basic level it's going to be "Cultural" whether mythic or not...However I do think there is some credence to this in couple things; Man was chosen to be the leader, so things that go wrong, end up on his head. In societies its usually the men that sin the worst, and cause the sorrow and grief among the women and children. It's also men that have some of the most immediate influence upon the women. Now maybe in the next 100 years that situation will completely reverse for a majority population, then that concept would change.

I guess that depends on which form of control, but I don't see how anything that prevents conception alone would go against that, just by going with the doctrine of premortal existance.such a matter is between the parents and God, and should be very studied and prayed about by the respective individuals.

I certainly hope we didn't choose which trials we'd be getting... or I might have to turn myself in as haveing sadomachistic tendencies or something. However a reasonable thought to me is perhaps we had a little say in what time period we'd come to earth. No documentation I am aware of that would say yea or nay to this question.

why did you choose the name Palerider? since this is my first post on this thread- random fact: I've never broken a bone.

Science and Religion: Good Bedfellows?
Blackmarch replied to theoriginalavatar's topic in General Discussion
All science does is tell us how God has set things up, and some of the what, but cannot answer who, where, or why.In my experiece God generally instructs in the who, and why, and some of the where, and some in what, and hardly anything in the how. Generaly the conflict arises when people try to use science to find out the who, where and why... Or try to use God to explain the How and the What. -
If we take remove God or any super entity/force/being that gives meaning to right and wrong that the founders of the nation used when they constructed the government, then all our government and laws stemming from that are hypocritical and meaningless. Well said, I'd like to add my siggy to this.

Does Salt Lake City have its share of worldliness?
Blackmarch replied to chitchat's topic in General Discussion
rememebr one thing: there is opposition in all things - where you find the best you will also likely find the worst. Luckily theres legislation in utah anyways that reduces the impact and amount that such can have. I think SLC does a pretty good job, but i'm not a resident, just a pass thruer person so all i really know is temple square and the surrounding streets. And on a very general level I prefer to be in utah because there are less of said unwanted businesses (and that people are generally more modestly dressed in summertime). -
ya, probably. That being said I don't care for cheesyness, which is usually the first thing that comes to mind with most religious based names and commercializations.

yep.

ya they can go through, altho i'd wager that if they're caught sleeping on the grounds or bothering too many people for handouts that theyd get escorted out, don't know for sure tho.

You ought to look up Douglas Wayne Barlowe's "Expedition". Which was adapted for a TV special called "Alien World". Altho looking back I didn't think Fern gully's story to be all that original either lol.... (but then most stories themes today aren't original anymore) what i'd really like to see someone take on with cameron's level of skill is Robota, Foreigner, or Star Tide Rising.

one joke i've heard that's always given me a good chuckle- How do you tell between a good mormon and a bad mormon? The temperature of their caffiene.

Story was fine, it wasn't epic... I think dances with wolves is closer- but it uses a story that plays on peoples heartstrings, so it's probably going to be more popular for that reason. As for the 3d the Na'vi characters were amazing, as was the foliage. the animals while great weren't what pushed the CGI. The animal design on the other hand was 10/10 (but then anything Barlowe has a hand in ends up being very realistic while very alien)

Facebook?what's facebook? just kidding. On a serious sidenote, i tried applying to facebook but it glitched or something, so now I can't use my real information to make a new account.. and I can't access my old account, so I don't use facebook. Probably a blessing in disguise. -
not really its more like anti-company... and its set up so that the audience sides with the natives for the most part.
