two things come to mind: 1) It will be similar to what we have here; friends, family groups, learning, experiencing, etc. 2) We will be surprised at how many people are there because God is not a failed parent.

How well do you know your LDS.NET friends?
slamjet replied to EarlJibbs's topic in General Discussion
I object to Backroad's characterization of me as "sweet" besides, the reason I tolerate her cat postings is that her husband is in the military and knows 101 ways to kill me... slowly. Just like her, taking that nice-thing too far -
From what you posted on Facebook, I would suggest you stay away from smart-phones until you have that hot temper of yours under control

Anatess I like since she and I will sometimes shoot (or post) first, then ask questions later, getting ourselves into all kinds of trouble. -
Then that fits. Thanks.

How long do mission presidents server for? We're getting ours replaced but it seems he was called not that many years ago.

I can tell you this: in the ARP program (or any other 12 step program) we are told to not share our step-4 with our wifes or significant other. There are some things that should not be shared because it will be a burden to the person we share it with. I guarantee you one thing, no one on earth knows everything about me. It would be too much.

Lets see, it used to be: > Drinking, had to stop that. > Eating, had to stop that. > Hitting the fridge, had to stop that > Hitting door jambs, had to stop that > Driving fast, had to stop that > Sitting and messing with the computer, had to stop that. > Talk it out with my wife, well, no longer able to do that. > Play with my kids, see above. > Running, no longer physically able to do that. > Walking, To a certain extent see above and add no time. So I don't know, haven't figured that one out.

Wow, now that I know LP was a CO, I find myself feeling distrust and contempt for her. I was in Twin Towers so all you need to do is read the papers about all the abuse from the Sheriffs in there. I may only have been in there for a few months, but I left with a severe hatred for law enforcement. I'm better about it now but whenever I find out someone is an officer, deputy, trooper, etc, my hackles raise and I have to really fight back some ill feelings towards that person. But I'm sure LP is a nice person.

It seems you're asking if we would bring someone to church who may make other members uncomfortable if not also offended. I say screw what others are going to think. This is not about making sure others feel ok, it's about showing a good example to the visitor. We've had drunks, looney folks, people who sure seem they're off their meds, Etc. Heck, I only need to look at how I treated people when I started to come back to church. So let her loose and watch the fun unfold.

*Closed* Alas, bureaucracy has caught up with the joke.

I'll agree that the Beyond Scared Straight isn't doing anyone any favors but the two programs they showed that were in California (Corcoran & San Quentin) would be the ones that I would vote for. Show them what it is, inform them, talk to them and let them make their own decision. But my short experience inside was that while it may have been 75% frustration and boredom, that 25% of terror is pretty bad. Thankfully, I was big and quiet enough that I was left alone. But the predators are real, the CO's don't give a darn and you're pretty much helpless with no recourse.

Well, I found the answer right after I posted the question. So I guess I should divide the memory between the two processors which would be 16 each. -
I know that Win2K8 R2 Server Standard will only address 32GB memory max. But is that 32GB max per processor or in total? I've not been able to find the answer.

Server Colocation... Any Uber Techies Out There?
slamjet replied to slamjet's topic in General Discussion
Well, we pulled the trigger. We just purchased a refurb 1U Dell C1100 from Amazon Marketplace (Deep Discount Servers). We also decided to go with colocationamerica.com to host our server. Specs: 1U, 2X Xeon Quad Core L5520 2.26GHz, 1X 250GB, 72GB DDR3 RAM, NO OS (no problem, I'm going to install Win2008 R2 Standard Server). I also purchased two 500GB WD Re4 hard drives to use in Raid 1. I'll keep the 250 GB for other not-so-critical stuff. I already have an old Dell Optiplex set up with FreeNAS so now it will get some use. I didn't know about the Disaster Recovery documents, thanks for that. I'm going to put one together and give it to my boss. Her account runs as administrator (she's very good about it, doesn't even touch any of the config stuff) so if it all goes wrong, she can give them her login but to "officially" document the system would be very useful. -

Backups? We don't need no stinking backups! Actually, they're not off-site which yes, it worries us. What also worries us is if I get run down (which is not out of the question in my town) then the business is out of luck. Besides, I just talked to my boss and she's on board. We'll need to get into this asap. The only thing now is new or refurb. This stuff is really expensive. Definitely going to do at least a RAID 1. Redundant power supply is going to have to be an option. -
Server Colocation... Any Uber Techies Out There?

The server is to run out practice management software so it's going to be RDP. I think I'm settling on collocation with purchasing a refurb 1u unit. It seems there's one outfit (Collocation America) that would charge reasonably for 1u of space and will give me 24/7 physical access to my system. From what I've been able to dig up, they're good to work with. I also think we're well within the bandwidth limit. It's only 5 users over RDP so how much can that be. The only issue is $$$. It's tax time so we're going to have to really scrape it together. -
We're to the point where we're going to need to have a server located in a more secure location so I have one questions: Can I have our applications installed on a collocation server or dedicated server or is it only for web-servers? For example, Windows 2008 R2 Server running remote desktop (or terminal service as it used to be called) running our billing, practice management and other apps? Also, what do I need to be aware of and what questions should I ask?

Then you really should look at Hostgator.com. Their domain registration is pretty cheap.
-
You would be amazed at the flexibility and how much better it would look especially for your work. But you do need to pay for a domain and webhosting service. I use hostgator.com to host my websites and thus far it's been pretty good.

Yes, I love Wordpress. I had today to get an e-commerce site up and running so that the firm I work for can take payments for a seminar we're putting on. Instead of beating my head with Dreamweaver, I used Wordpress with the Twenty Thirteen Theme, Woocommerce and added a credit card processing extention and BAM! DONE! Wordpress, it's not just for blogs!
