  1. Please cite references for this story, because it smells fishy to me. Unless a modern-day Prophet of the Lord was directly involved, I would highly doubt the assertion. Perhaps it may happen in the Millenium, but as far as I know, currently the people involved must be listed on historical records as being married.
  2. I don't know what church you are attending, but The LDS Church does not teach that Jesus was born on Dec. 25 despite the fact that we celebrate it on that day. It seems to me that you need to set an appointment with your bishop and talk over your righteous desires in a non-confrontational manner. If you exhibit humility and a willingness to follow his counsel, you may be surprised at how much help he can be in helping you achieve the desires of your heart. An adversarial relationship with your bishop rarely results in your feeling uplifted or advancing your relationship the Savior.
  3. Care to back up your assertion using LDS-recognized doctrinal sources?
  4. Please, when describing the ordinance of Baptism, do not use the term 'dunking'. For many people the term 'dunking' cheapens this sacred ordinance.
  5. I'll text you a picture while I'm there.
  6. Since this thread has spiraled way off topic I am closing it.
  7. We have In-N-Out here in Utah, so it's no big thing to me. I do plan on hitting Jack in the Box at least once though. I don't mind driving around a little, so I'm sure I'll be going to Rancho Cucamonga sometime during the week.
  8. Since it was from 1941 it's probably condemned as used as firewood by now. Well, if it's farmland maybe I can go cow-tipping at night. Beefche, don't call your cousins and warn them.
  9. I'll have a car, and will be done by 4:00pm most days. By the map it's not that far to Newport Beach. I figure about an hour or so each way if I go. I've been to outlet malls before, they hold no draw for me.
  10. I believe what you are trying to say, and the way it is viewed by the LDS Church, is that the BoM is a religious record, and was edited and abridged to provide a brief religious history of the people who came to the Americas with Lehi. What it is not, is a chronological or archaeological historical record. By the way, neither is the Bible, although it does contain more references to known historical figures and places. That said, while place names in the Bible can sometimes be located, there is very little evidence that what the Bible says happened in those places, happened quite the way the Bible claims they did or even occurred at all. People who come here claiming that the BoM is false because there is no archaeological evidence for it and then compare it to the Bible are using straw men to make their point. It's a very weak argument against the Book of Mormon.
  11. Anything interesting to do or good places to eat? I'm going there on business next week, don't want to get bored out of my skull at night. I guess I could go to the beach, but that is a little ways away.
  12. I'm guessing that there is much more to this story than what you are telling. Let's please be careful of site rules in discussing these things.
  13. Yeah, it's not like any gays or Christians have ever said stupid things before. Did you ask your Christian friends about the idea of it being okay to get a divorce from a spouse with Alzheimer's?
  14. Then I don't think it should be a problem. Like I say, if you have doubts on that issue you should bring it up with your bishop.
  15. I don't know. Maybe there's a ghost in the server?
  16. Actually, he's right. Most people who have spiritual experiences such as seeing spirits in the temple don't go around talking about them because those experiences are sacred to them. I suggest you calm down just a little before pressing the reply button. Asking people to share their most sacred experiences on internet forums is considered crass, and many folks won't share for fear of casting their pearls before swine.
  17. If you are unsure, then I suggest you DO discuss it with your bishop. If you feel you have reached the point where you cannot support your church leaders, then I think you know the answer. Lying to your bishop to retain your recommend is not an advisable path to follow.
  18. And that's the difference. A skeptic does not come before the Lord with a broken heart and a contrite spirit. The skeptic is looking for reasons not to believe, the true seeker is asking the Lord to help him find the truth no matter where it leads.
  19. And there's the rub. A skeptic will always find a reason to not believe.
  20. Yeah, I can't think of any revelations in ancient times that prophecy of future people or events. Well, except for the Old Testament. I seem to remember a couple of passages in there that talk about Jesus. But those are just minor things, not really important stuff at all.
  21. I'm not sure what you mean here. Care to elaborate?
  22. You mean like Joseph Smith?History 1 ? Or Doctrine and Covenants ? Or do you mean other writings and teachings that have come from him? Joseph wrote, spoke, and taught about his revelations many, many times.
  23. Welcome to the site. Hope you like it here.
  24. Hmm, I didn't know it was a requirement these days. I never took a temple prep class before I went through, but that was a few years ago.
  25. Confirmation means that you are confirmed an official member of the LDS Church. The gift of the Holy Ghost is then bestowed upon you. As Pam said, the Gift of the Holy Ghost entitles you to the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost as long as you are worthy of it. From the CHI Book 2:
