Idling longer than 2 minutes now illegal in Salt Lake City
john doe replied to pam's topic in Current Events
It's a feel-good, pat-me-on-the-back law. Enforcement will be almost impossible, and with the number of exemptions they are adding to it, there will be no reductions in pollution. -
Mormon Church dress codes vs other church dress codes
john doe replied to Backroads's topic in General Discussion
By self-righteous, you mean people who disagree with your interpretation of things, right? Since Jesus has asked us to live a certain way and do certain things in certain ways, I guess he would fall into your definition of self-righteous. But as long as we all accept and see things your way it's okay, right? -

Yeah, I'm sure the LDS Church gets a lot of converts just because they get to wear a suit and tie on Sunday. -

It will be enforced by parking police. So they are going to sit in their vehicle, idling, timing you. And when you hit 2 minutes they will give you a ticket. But they're okay, because they are enforcing the law, right? -
Mormon Church dress codes vs other church dress codes

Just curious, since you seem to know so much about the dress in those times, how many people during those days wore a white shirt and tie anywhere? Your argument smells like a strawman, because it seems to me that white shirts and ties were not the normal attire for, well, just about anyone of the period. Here's my real question: Was it customary for Jews during Old Testament times to wear their most presentable clothing before God when they entered the temple or synagogue? Why, or why not? -

In my area they have requested that shorts not be worn in the building on activity nights unless you are going to be engaging in sports-type activities. Males are not allowed to be shirtless outside of dressing/changing areas either. -
Groups or individuals whose practices are contrary to the church
john doe replied to a topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I don't know. For instance, I think that there are people and groups who think that it is perfectly fine to work against the church and its policies 'from the inside'. They think they can effect their politically correct agendas and change the church 'for the better' by working to make those who speak frankly and forthright about right, wrong and sin look foolish or uncaring or unloving of their fellow man. I submit that there are factions of those groups making the rounds both within the church and on the internet. And they think that they are the standard-bearers and are the more righteous part of the church for trying to effect change from within. They believe that they are being Christ-like for not speaking out against sin, hiding behind the shield of not being judgemental of those who participate in sin. -
No it's not. A classic example of smaller government would be talking about eliminating layers and layers and layers of government bureaucrats. Then you should also be against people owning dogs and cats too, because pitbulls can kill in seconds and cats are just plain anti-social. (BTW, I am against people owning undomesticated animals as pets) Really? I've never seen a pet shop with a lion for sale in the back. Are you sure this is as big of a problem as you claim? Maybe that only happens in Indiana.

Actual fans of BYU football have a much better grasp on what goes on at BYU, where they fit, and how to spell the names of their players than Yewts who claim to know everything about them and their program. Let me guess, you applied but didn't get in for academic reasons? It's okay, you can admit it, lots of Utah alums are in the same (pirate) boat.
-
Yep, because the whole smaller government movement thing is about letting nutcases buy lots of guns and dangerous exotic safari-type animals without regard for innocent human life. In fact, I think that's the motto on the front page of the Libertarian website. In fact I've heard lots of people call a certain former Utah governor a RINO, which is one of the most dangerous animals around once they charge. There's not much worse than a herd of RINOs getting together to plan the destruction of America. I even hear the calls for big, powerful guns to put these RINOs down.

Dash: Admit it, you're a Yewt claiming to also be a fan of BYU, as if that automatically gives you an excuse to go after them with your self-righteous rants. I would waste more time responding to your whining about BYU, but then I realized that post #23 on this thread is still valid, so I'll just refer you to that. Do you need a link or can you find it yourself?
-
Now your claims about being a BYU fan are truly dead. Linking to a proven idiot shows how desperate you are to make your incorrect point. Just admit you're a BYU-obsessed Yewt and move on, okay?

Don't like Dr. Jeffress' comments about our faith?
john doe replied to families4ever's topic in Current Events
I wouldn't worry too much about it. If he is interested in finding out what LDS believe he shouldn't have any trouble finding out. I'm sure he can figure out how to google the LDS Church just as easily as we can google his. -

I was the one who removed the pastor's contact information. This site will not be co-opted into being a staging area for attacking people of other faiths, especially clergymen, for their beliefs. I would imagine that if you went to that church's website (assuming there is one) you should be able to find contact information for him. Edited to add: It took me about 30 seconds to google him and his church, and found contact information. -
Seems to me that we (his children) have some responsibility in that contract. He is not obligated if we do nothing to hold up our end of the deal.

I'm trying to collect some coin, but every time I get a little the government decides they need it worse than I do and takes it away.

Hmmmm, I had to go back and read what I wrote over a year and a half ago to figure out what we were talking about. I like how you conveniently cut out the rest of my statement and chose to isolate this one sentence to whine about. Nitpick much? I stand by my original statement.

I'm surprised you didn't show a picture of Solyndra execs getting their guaranteed checks just before declaring bankruptcy.

You need to read the reviews.

Not right now. But if I get another one I might need a 72hr. kit for it. I was also looking for a good power outlet for my stereo system. This one seem to get good reviews, has anyone here used it before?
