I went to 9th grade at Midway across the tracks. I still think of that place when I tear open a package of Idahoans. I have a friend who works for the volunteer fire department either there or in Menan. He might even be in charge now.

I've never been able to come up with anything that I would want to have inked on my body permanently. The eternal things, like my faith, the gospel, and family, are imprinted permanently on my soul, and the outward signs of those should show in my countenance. The only things I can think of that I would want would be identification marks for the coroner to see or if I had a medical condition that would be imperative for first responders to know.

I actually lived 3 miles southeast of town in the Clark area. Lived on Milo Road, but I hear they changed all the road names to numbers, so I don't know what road it is anymore.

Duh! Lights when there is a power outage!

Hmmm, all this time I thought you were a woman, unless you have something you need to get off your chest? Nevermind, I see it is a forwarded chain email. -
Was it that obvious?

Huh. My high school mascot in Idaho was the Trojans. We couldn't think up any creative cheers that wouldn't get us suspended, especially after an article appeared in Playboy declaring our county as having the nation's highest teen pregnancy rate. We did come up with a fight song that was eerily similar to the Notre Dame fight song but the words were changed to turn it into a drinking and fighting song.

I spent some time in Vincennes and Evansville.

Seems to me that a refresher study of the Proclamation on the Family would be a good thing about now.

I was one of the ones called for 2 years and they reduced it to 18 months while I was in the MTC. Those who had been out less than 1 year were given no choice but to go 18 months, but those out over a year were given the option to drop to 18 months or serve out the full 24 months. The reasons given at the time for the reduction was to help ease the financial burden on families and thus encourage more missionaries to go out who thought they couldn't afford the whole 2 years. I guess in the end they figured that the time difference didn't really have an effect on the number of missionaries in the field so they moved it back to 24 months.

No, he didn't. He lamented the fact that many people are waiting far too long to marry and delaying having children for the wrong reasons. He did not say "go out and make lots of babies before you're ready".

Kentucky 1982-83. I lost my drawl, but I can still understand and speak Hillbilly when called upon to do so. I sometimes like to watch redneck shows to brush up on my language skills. Loved the people, some of the greatest, nicest people you will ever meet as long as they know you aren't from the government and trying to destroy their moonshine stills.

I suggest everyone take a deep breath before posting. This subject is unnecessarily getting heated and it seems many times people are not even trying to understand each other before attempting to tell them they are wrong for thinking that way. Everyone calm down or we'll have to close this thread.

Nissan Releasing an Electric Automobile in 2010
john doe replied to Still_Small_Voice's topic in General Discussion
A couple of notes here: 1)The complaint about the range was an instrumentation issue, not an actual range issue. Nissan did an update to the computer to address that. 2)No one should be shocked that range goes down in extreme cold conditions. The car runs on Li-ion batteries, and until that technology improves, all electric cars will have issues with extreme cold conditions. They could probably add battery heaters, but those would take battery power to run, and I imagine the thought is that the reduced distance from the cold is not as much as if you run extra power to heat the batteries. The added weight and power draw are likely not worth the trouble. The same thing applies with extreme heat. But I still didn't see where you came up with an 8-mile range at extreme cold temps. Maybe I missed it? 3)The leaf is not a vehicle for everybody, but I can see where it has its value. It's a short-distance commuter car. In the Salt Lake Valley, most people who live and work in the valley probably drive 15-25 miles each way to work. If you drive to work, park, and go home, that's only 50 miles a day, well within the car's driving range. And you'd still have 30-50 miles available to run errands if needed. And when you get home you use the family car to do family driving while the Leaf is charging for the next day's drive. That won't fit everybody's lifestyle, but there are enough people like that out there that they think it will work for their needs. Will it? I don't know. 4) There are currently tax breaks and credits for buying electric. I believe the feds currently kick in $7500 to help with the cost, and California is giving a $2000 (I think) tax credit to help with installing a charging station in your home. -

Well, that's twice as many as Huntsman is getting, so it's a start. -

I have a better idea. Let's make working voluntary. If you don't feel like working anymore, no matter what your age, you just tell the government, and they will pay for you to live whatever kind of lifestyle you want for the rest of your life. The government will just give you a Government Card, and you can use it to pay for any expenses you want to have. That way anyone who wants to work can do so, and they will be happy because they don't really have to work, they go to work because they want to. And anyone who doesn't want to work can stop anytime, and there is no stigma attached to that choice. Free healthcare and money for everyone, that's what I say, and no limits to what people can get. If everyone on your street wants a Ferrarri, you can all go down together and buy one in every color of the rainbow, and race each other home. And if everyone wants a covered pool in their living room, I say we give it to them, they can just charge it on their Government Card, and the Government will pay for illegal aliens to come to your house to install it for free. Give the people what they want, after all, it's only fair. We all deserve to live like the rich, so we should just do it and not worry how much it will cost, that's such a minor detail anyway. -

Hmmm, I have no problem accessing the wifi, and it's pretty fast. Sounds like the issue is on your end. -

Where did you hear that? I have not heard the claim that the Leaf will only go 8 miles at 28 degrees before. -
As Bini said, situps can be harmful, and most trainers don't recommend them much anymore. Crunches do pretty much the same thing with less stress on the neck. I suggest you visit your local fitness center and consult with a trainer to give you personalized advice on what different methods they recommend for your situation and body type.

They said they purposely left the large gay communities off their list.

I think you missed the point. The fact is, they realize that they sometimes say or do things that they need to repent of daily. They acknowledge that they are not perfect. I have heard Apostles and Prophets acknowledge the same things. Don't we all have things that we need to repent of daily? While their sins may not be the same ones you struggle with, I'm willing to bet that there are some that are just as irritating to others as theirs are to you. It seems to me that not being able to let go of other peoples' sins and judging them harshly for their failings is sometimes just as sinful in the eyes of the Lord as what they do. Instead of focusing on what they are doing that hurts others, are you helping or hindering the problem by not being able to forgive them?
-
There is another side to this coin. What about the admonition to be quick to forgive and not hold grudges for things people say thoughtlessly? At least they admit they are not perfect and state a desire to change, but are we any more perfect if we remember every time we have been offended and hold that against them? The point is, nobody is perfect and sometimes we want to pluck the mote out of the other person's eye when we can't see the beam in our own.

Just like at church, some people like to keep score when there really is no competition. It seems to me that the ones who aspire to be bishop, or EQP, or YM Pres.,etc., are generally shocked by how hard it is to do the job when they finally get called to it. Within weeks they usually regret the day they ever thought they could do a better job than the previous holder of the position. I'm just fine if I never get called to be a church leader again, as long as what I have done is deemed acceptable in the eyes of God and Jesus when it's all over. I don't remember who it was for sure, but I remember a quote from someone in conference saying they would be happy if they could teach Primary for the rest of their lives.
