If you were bishop of the LDS.net ward
john doe replied to MarginOfError's topic in General Discussion
I'll be 50 this year and there are many High Priests younger than me in my ward. But there are also many Elders who are around my age and we are fine with meeting and being with the Elders. Most of our younger Elders are either preparing for missions or are in Young Men's anyway, so us Old Elders are really the anchors of those meetings. I think the younger guys who do meet with us gain a lot from our experience, especially when it comes to talking about kids and relationships with spouses. -
Good for you Bini. I hope it goes well for you and you feel welcome in your ward.

Mormonmusic has moved to another ward, and MOE can't have two callings. -

Well, it has to be a legitimate calling. How about Ward Building Scheduler? -

I'll be just fine without a calling. Make me the guy who sits on the back row in Sunday School cracking jokes. -
It's not so much that the discipline changes from bishop to bishop, it's more that each individual situation is different. Church discipline is not about punishment, it is putting the individual on a course of true repentance and becoming clean again. Sure, there's a slim chance that that your particular situation may include excommunication or disfellowshipment, but I have never heard of anyone being excommunicated for masturbation. It is my understanding that those kinds of things are reserved for people in whom the sin is an ongoing and recurring problem, and there is little or no sign of remorse or desire to repent or for serious sins. Not to downplay masturbation , but it's not usually considered a 'serious sexual sin', even though it is considered a sin. Generally the 'serious' part comes in when another person becomes involved in the activity.

99% of the other what? Medical professionals? Church members? Where do you get your numbers?
-
Being 19, you are an adult, if you were to be excommunicated or disfellowshipped the bishop should not be telling your family about it as a matter of course. That said, I doubt anyone would be excommunicated for masturbation. Disfellowshipment would also be unlikely if the person has stopped and is of a repentant heart, in my mind. But your mileage may vary depending on the individual situation and what the bishop thinks would be the best course of action for repentance.

Yes. Sex banned until Warren Jeffs' prison walls crumble, FLDS relatives say | Deseret News So he has prophesied that the prison walls will crumble and fall around him and he will be a free man. I guess he figures that the people responsible for imprisoning him will not lift a finger to stop him from walking out at that point and consider him free from society's rules.

I thought I saw on the news the other night that Jeffs had ordered all his followers to stop having sexual relations until he had been interviewed personally by him. Which would be nearly impossible since he is in prison for quite a while, possibly the rest of his life.

Since the OP deleted their message I'm closing this.

Considering the number of body parts doctors see on a daily basis I doubt they even think twice about what that person in their ward looks like without clothes on, even if they've seen them naked professionally. I imagine the titillation part of their job is not so exciting to them by the time they have left medical school.

Self-righteousness.

Enjoy your birthday Pam!

Absolutely I do, until they reach age 18.

It depends.

Happy Birthday!

Rumors are that he is going to Chile. But I haven't independently confirmed that.

You're done here. I'm seriously considering deleting the thread and possibly handing out infractions.

Anyone Know a Good Book About Jesus?

I think it was McConkie that wrote the Messiah series, but I don't really know much about them. -

That's about as fine as I can afford. Maybe I could talk to Tyler about protesting my business until I get a raise so I can afford Texas Roadhouse. -
It's overused.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?
john doe replied to circusboy01's topic in General Discussion
Chicken or egg? Doesn't matter, I'll eat both, and in various ways. -
It's not so much a rule as it is 'netiquette. It's like if someone were to say they went for a walk and saw a cute puppy dog and the response to that was "I hate green carrots" and took it in another direction entirely. Yes, sometimes threads do take on a life of their own and wander from their original thought. Sometimes we even do it on purpose. But having hung out around here for a while, and seen Iggy post for a couple years, I knew that where she started the thread and where it has ended up is not what she wanted to discuss. I knew she would want the thread to not take a left turn as this one did. That is why I have repeatedly requested that people start a new thread if they wanted to talk about the other stuff. Some people don't mind the shotgun approach, some people prefer threads they start to stay somewhat close to the topic that started. I think Iggy prefers to keep things on point. If you guys want to discuss the other topic, please start a new thread.
