  1. Welcome. I'm related by marriage to some Holyoaks in Idaho.
  2. Last year in Utah many of the ski resorts were open until July 4th. This year they probably won't make it to Memorial Day. That's all the proof needed by those who believe in it to show how quickly the climate changes, and it's obviously caused by humans since we were around to witness it. At this rate we will be waterskiing on Mirror Lake in January next year.
  3. Well Duh! We're exporting our excess pollution to other planets so no one will notice it so much here. Why do you think we've been sending spaceships to Mars? Ever wonder why they haven't found intelligent life there? It's because we've killed them with our pollution. Ever wonder why they never show the dark side of the moon? It's because we Americans have turned it into a huge garbage dump and landfill. No way anything will grow there now.
  4. And now they're saying that CO2 makes you fat, which totally explains Al Gore's recent huge weight gains.
  5. I think he's talking about the escrow option where the money would be paid to a third party and held until the recipient of the goods had inspected them and stated they were in the agreed-upon condition. The money would then be released to the seller.
  6. I think the church has the same thoughts on this as most of us here have-- that Helen Radkey is the one doing this, and then claiming the church is not doing what they said. LDS Church responds to 'ironic' proxy baptism charges | Deseret News
  7. I've found that part of my brain development is to trust the spell-check feature when I fat-finger the keyboard. Correcting mistakes when either man or machine points them out to me.
  8. So now it appears that Helen Radkey has at least been using membership accounts of disaffected members to check up on the names to embarrass the LDS Church with. The new filters appear to be working, and now accounts are being suspended when someone tries to look at names on the 'do not use' lists. When this happens, the person must now contact Family Search and establish their family relationship before the account will be reinstated. Apparently, Helen is not too happy with these developments, and is screaming about it. Looks like she'll have to find a new way to grind her axe. http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/53667482-78/church-names-radkey-proxy.html.csp
  9. Do you want a list, or just a top 2 or 3 reasons?
  10. Well, it took Wyvern less than an hour to spoil the fun. Some children just can't follow instructions.
  11. Pam has hit the magical number of laughs at 7,777. Since she is very superstitious, she has asked that no one laugh at her posts anymore so that she can enjoy good luck for an extended period of time. So in lieu of laughing at Pam, please direct all laughs to my posts until further notice. Thank you.
  12. I think you're confused. You started out by saying that your definition is what you see and feel. And then you end up saying you don't know anyone like that. I suggest we stop listening to the talking heads and start listening to what the actual people are saying and think for ourselves. Listening to what the commentators say only confuses the matter because they are putting their own biased spin on things.
  13. As a person who considers himself a political conservative, I will just say that your definitions of both sides could not be more wrong. I believe that conservatives are just as concerned about caring for the poor and widows among us as the liberals are. The points of contention between the groups are how we carry out those goals of caring for the downtrodden in our society, and at what point personal responsibility to care for yourself and become self-reliant comes into play. And how much of a role government should play in caring for you, and how much private groups, churches, and individuals should be involved and encouraged by government in helping to lift up their fellow man. I cannot think of any mainstream US political conservative voice that believes that only white male landowners should be able to vote. Even Rush, as disgusting as he has been lately, has not been down that road as far as I know.
  14. The mods are watching this thread very closely. Please remember the rules of not discussing current US political candidates. If you cannot control yourself, it may be best if you just skip this thread altogether.
  15. The disappointing thing about Headline News is that back in the day, they were just that- headlines. You could actually sit down and watch it for half an hour and catch up on the headlines and important national and international news of the day. If you wanted something in-depth, then you could go to CNN or another nightly news show and get more details. Now they seem more intent on pushing some sort of agenda or doing shows that no one wants to see. They've lost their way.
  16. Well it's become apparent that you're here merely for the comedic value. The question is, how many are laughing with you and how many are laughing at you?
  17. It cracks me up when people take the time to actually spell it Faux News as they pat themselves on the back for being Clear-Thinking Liberals. It's the leftist version of Rush calling their favorite station PMSNBC. I don't watch Fox often myself lately, but will agree that CNN has definitely moved closer to the center than HLN has recently. I can only stand the talking heads on any of those channels for about 10-15 minutes before their biases get unbearable and I have to switch to something else.
  18. Day jobs are a great thing to have as a back up plan. I suggest you don't quit yours anytime soon.
  19. Your ward directory should be available through the LDS Tools app on your smart phone. When you look someone up in the directory, you can click on the person's address and it will show up on your phone's Google Map. You can even choose Street View and see the person's home. I have not seen any links to ward boundaries yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if they incorporated it in future updates to LDS Tools.
  20. If you son is not interested in scouts, then I wouldn't worry about attending the patrol meetings, and I think you are right about having them on Sundays. I personally have a problem with doing anything scout-related on Sundays, even Courts of Honor. Just keep reminding yourself (and your son's leaders if they push things) that YM and scouts are meant to be a help to the boys, not for the boys to be a slave to.
  21. I don't see what the big deal is if they are not asking you to pay any of his registration costs. The fact is, it is much easier for your son to be officially registered as a scout for insurance reasons. It is a big pain in the behind for a dual PH/Scouting leader to have to stop every time he plans an activity to stop and decide whether it can be a PH or a scouting activity, and thus whether to include your son or not. Sign the kid up as long as the ward is footing the bill. If he doesn't want to participate in any obviously scouting activities, then he is free to choose that. But the line gets blurred so often that it is just best to be registered so that if anything were to happen on an activity, then between the church and scouts, the leaders will know he is covered. If I were a leader and knew that your son was not registered as a scout because you don't care about scouts, I would err on the side of not inviting him to activities if there were any question as to which jurisdiction it falls under. It's simply easier if he were registered, and in most cases the ward covers the costs, so it's no big deal other than your time to fill out the form.
