  1. I've never heard anything official about that, but lots of people like to spread Faith Promoting Rumors to make themselves feel better about things they don't understand.
  2. Yeah. After reading the flyer, I don't really see a reason to be upset. Continuing to make a big deal about it or commenting will only cause hurt feelings all around. Better to just drop it.
  3. Sorry, but a George Thorogood song came to mind when I read the OP. It probably doesn't apply in this case.
  4. Every time I eat at McDonald's I am reminded of why I don't make it a point to go there more often.
  5. I'm guessing that some people may feel pressured to give gifts they may not have otherwise given had it not been an official Church-sponsored event. It also seems to me that it's probably some ladies' lazy way to check off that box on their checklist instead of rescheduling or canceling altogether to avoid a conflict. I certainly wouldn't feel obligated to attend or even bring a gift if I were the OP.
  6. A re-reading of Ephesians 4 would be helpful here. Your Galations 1:8 reference is a strawman argument.
  7. It's certainly a possibility. I don't know anybody personally by that name, but I don't live in Louisiana or France either.
  8. Interesting that you would think this...
  9. While I agree that we should avoid working on Sunday if possible, I would be careful putting on my judgement hat and pouring condescension down upon someone whose job required working that day. Especially in these economic times, you do what you have to do to provide for your family. No one should be made to feel like they are somehow less worthy of God's love simply because their job requires working on Sunday. The OP is asking how to help and support a spouse mentally and spiritually who has to do it, not asking how she can feel worse about the situation.
  10. Well, Pam has had the same first name since the 1950s, try to top that!
  11. But would you do it if your personal trainer told you you should quit?
  12. By using the same logic, one could ask the question about whether our relationship with Christ is codependency. In order to properly worship Christ, we must put aside our own needs and wants and bend to the will of Jesus and what He wants us to do.
  13. I am going to preface this by saying that I was hesitant to post this story because it does reference some US politcal candidates, but that is not the main thrust of the article. The article discusses the growth of LDS in numbers and influence in our nation's capitol, and those numbers and influences run the spectrum of political parties and lobbyists, and that LDS are slightly over-represented on Capitol Hill as opposed to the general population of the country. I think it is very even-handed and a great article about members of the LDS Church in that area. The story can be found here: With or without Romney, D.C. a surprising Mormon stronghold – CNN Belief Blog - CNN.com Blogs I will drop a moderator's note here that site rules concerning discussion of particular political candidates will still be enforced. I feel that it is possible to discuss the presence of the Church and its influence in Washington without getting political, or endorsing or attacking particular candidates. Please don't prove me wrong. As Thumper's dad used to say in "Bambi", 'if you can't say nuthin' nice, don't say nuthin' at all'.
  14. Refusing to get counseling for such a debilitating issue is not going to help alleviate it either. I'm not sure what you're looking for here. Do you want to be relieved from having to wear the garment after being endowed? Do you want different colors? What exactly are you asking for here? As has been mentioned, garments are not necessarily meant to be tight, they can be fit as loose or tight to the body as you are comfortable with. Nobody is going to see them unless you are undressed, and I'm hoping your future husband probably isn't so shallow that he comments on how your garments make you look fat when you're unclothed. Who else are you planning on being unclothed in front of?
  15. My thoughts? You need to find a therapist who deals with people suffering from poor body image issues. A 5'8" woman who still thinks they are too fat at 95lbs needs a different solution than just not wearing the garments. I suspect there are psychological issues at play here that should be dealt with. Your statements are confusing. Is your issue with white garments? Do you have an aversion to wearing anything white near your legs or just the garment? Or is the problem that the garments are too tight and you (or she) need to get the proper size?
  16. "I did not have relations with those people in Winnipeg". What is funny about that is that part of the mission includes Regina, which isn't pronounced the way most Americans would think at first glance.
  17. That's in the same category of which direction you wear your class ring. Whichever makes you feel more comfortable, do it that way.
  18. World English Dictionary civil war — n war between parties, factions, or inhabitants of different regions within the same nation
  19. That is so weird! My sister-in-law and her husband were also in that mission.
  20. There are a few reasons why they still send the boys out monthly. The one that comes off the top of my head is, the more the you think about giving, the more you think about it, and of it. Sometimes we lose sight of the reasons why fast offerings are collected and what their real purpose is if we don't have a separate donation for them. There are also the reasons of allowing the young men the opportunity of fruitful service for a good cause, and allowing people who may not have any other contact with the church the opportunity to give. We have been asked in our ward to wait for the young men to come by to donate, and not tell them we pay with our tithing when they come by.
  21. No. The Deacons are primarily in charge of Fast Offering collections. Older priesthood boys, fathers, and even Elders may be asked to assist, but generally it is a responsibility of Deacons. I didn't read the article, but heard this morning that when the pair found only checks and no cash, they dumped the lot of it in the Provo River.
  22. That would be my guess. Rather than sell to developers, they sold to the LDS Church to help preserve the sites.
  23. I think a lot of us practice moderation in living the Gospel and doing the things we are supposed to do already.
  24. Welcome. I've been to Idaho before.
