The referenced statements were in response to someone who became frustrated to the point of anger at aiming high and never even getting close to their intended target. In those types of cases, a dose of reality is needed. You can't realistically expect a Dodge Neon to run a quarter mile in less than a minute. You need to realize it just isn't what Dodge Neons do with regularity. If you want to go faster, you need to rebadge it and drop in a bigger, better, more reliable engine and drivetrain.

I would suggest subscribing to LDS magazines such as the Ensign, and leaving them around the house where she can find and read them. Let her find out for herself in her own time that her preconceived notions are false.

I would suggest looking for marriage to someone you love who loves you in return rather than using them as a stepping stone to gain legal entry to their country. Marrying for citizenship generally only works in the movies..........

I don't believe this falls into the duties of the EQP. The bishop meets with the individual and makes those decisions, but may possibly delegate some things to the EQP. I would imagine that in a situation that could be as sticky as you describe, the bishop would want to be directly involved in the decision process in determining the appropriate welfare needs of the individual in question.

Ward and Stake Business Conducted via Conference Call?

I would go for a feature where I could use my bank's bill-pay system to pay tithing directly online from my checking account. -
Sadly, there are a few not-so-great mission presidents. I had one of those. Mine yelled at me after I wrote him a letter talking about the troubles I was having as a greenie. I learned not to bother him with my problems and deal with them on my own. He saw me as a problem missionary, and sent me far from the mission home for the duration. The only times I saw the mission home were when I arrived and when I left. I heard years later that he had met a woman on a plane, left his wife and was excommunicated. It took me a few years to reconcile that while the church is true, some of the people in it, including some leaders, are not. While I had a great mission I can't credit my president for any of it, I view him as one of the hurdles I had to overcome.

Since it is unanimous I'll close this.......

They're not only separate accounts, they are separate corporations.

No, not at all like BYU.

I watched the Da Vinci Code one, it was informative. I also saw the one about Masonic traditions. The thing you need to remember when watching these things is that the producers of the shows sometimes go in directions that are not entirely accurate, and sometimes follow a certain person's agenda.

I love the History Channel, but sometimes they put programs on just as filler. I think Ancient Aliens would qualify for that. The Life After Humans series would also be in that category.

Mormonmusic, is there anything about the way the church works that you DO like?

SInce the OP is no longer among us I will close this.

Talk to your bishop and tell him you want to work toward holding the Melchezidek Priesthood and ask him what you need to do to make that happen.

According to your interpretation. We have living prophets and apostles who teach us otherwise. Isn't ongoing revelation from God cool?

Is home teaching really that difficult? Especially for those who live in the Intermountain West region of the US?

I think the main problem is that you will find that horror themes are generally not conducive to the spirit. I mean, how can you promote good wholesome themes when the main characters are killing and maiming each other in especially gruesome and graphic ways?

The dance celebrations seem to be something that Pres Monson likes to see. We had two with similar themes but different performers on back to back nights in Salt Lake City to celebrate the two new temples in the valley last year. He seemed to thoroughly enjoy himself during them.

And on that note, we're done here......

Stephanie Meyers is about as close to horror as you'll get from active LDS writers.

Doctrine and Covenants 131:1 states that there are 3 heavens or degrees of celestial glory.
-
2Corinthians 12:2 makes reference to a man seen in the third heaven. This indicates to us that there are various degrees of heaven. LDS scriptures give much more clarity to this teaching. Having modern prophets gives us so much more explanation to things lost in the original church, and help us find the correct translations and interpretations than if we were left to our own devices in guessing what they mean.

Okay, since this is your argument, where do you wish to make the cutoff? Are you making the argument that anything after Deuteronomy is false? Do you know when Revelations was added to the Bible? Do you know when the New Testament was added to the Old Testament? Do you know when Revelations was written? You keep moving the target here. Are you sure you want to make arguments here? You haven't even defended your previous claims yet.
