    Which Ajah would you join?

Definitely green. I'm about halfway through Towers of Midnight. I stopped reading the series after the abominable book 10. I refused to read further until reviews improved and the series was completed. I started reading the whole series a few months ago in anticipation of the final book being published. I was surprised that I enjoyed book 10 the second time through.

    Trayvon Martin

George Zimmerman had a broken nose, two black eyes and cuts on the back of his head the day after he killed Trayvon Martin, according to a medical report taken by his doctor. It also emerged on Tuesday that an autopsy showed skin on Trayvon's knuckles was broken. The new revelations bolster Zimmerman's claims that he was being punched and pummeled by the unarmed teen when he opened fire on February 22 in a gated community in Sanford, Florida. LDS Bishop charged

Someday as part of her healing process this would probably be appropriate. There is NO excuse for this.

    Home Teacher

I would tell him he was erroneous in his belief that he was my HT and that while he was welcome to visit my mother, to who he is assigned, the rest of my family would continue to have our visits with our own HT.

    Cola drinks

No, but it does make me need to pee more often. So I suppose if I was praying and suddenly needed to pee it might make it harder to feel any prompting besides "go to the bathroom."
  8. You two need to have a loooong discussion about some things. The first thing you need to talk about is that you are married and decisions are yours as a couple...not yours as a couple and his family. That does not mean good advice can't be accepted, but it needs to be clear that the decisions are not theirs, but you and your husband's. There is nothing wrong with waiting on children...for a good reason. That good reason is determined between you and your husband, with input from the Lord. For us that meant my degree and establishment in my career (that = 8 years). That doesn't make it right for anyone else, unless they have consulted the Lord and received a similar answer. Being bullied into a decision is wrong as well. Manipulation = satan's plan and that just won't cut it in a marriage, not if you want it to last. My $0.02.

    Coping with tactless evangelicals

I adopted this philosophy a long time ago. I'm happy to answer honest questions, I am not interested in arguing religion. I wish I had learned that lesson sooner.

    Trayvon Martin

Point out where I did this. Then why would you make this ludicrous statement: and follow it up by saying this is how a soldier would think. If you have the training you say, you would not make/believe such a statement...unless you have another agenda on the topic of self defense. Not necessarily. Plenty of criminals do not freeze because a gun has been drawn.

That doesn't make any sense. When using deadly force, you are trained to shoot at the largest target: center mass. Are we safe in assuming you have little or no familiarity with handling/shooting firearms and no tactical experience/training? It really does sound like you have already determined in your mind that Zimmerman is guilty.

Food Storage opinion, Has this gone bad?

If it is in the original vacum sealed package, I would take a Sharpie and label it "old" and put it back into storage. You can always check it for edibility if needed during an emergency. It can be used for barter/charity/personal use as needed. I would also buy a new one as a replacement. I have several of these bars in my food storage. I ate one last year during SWAT tryouts. Quick easy energy/food.

Is it ethical for cops to lie, coerce?

@ kayne: I'd suggest you start reading the deadly force statutes for your state. You clearly have no clue about when you can and cannot use deadly force.

Is it ethical for cops to lie, coerce?

I'm going to pick at the three of your examples that I am most familiar with. I really don't like reactionary accusations and three of your choices are. The UC Davis pepper spray incidenet. What really happened: Still think it was unjustified? Those guys were a lot more patient that I would have been. BART: A horrendous tragedy. Beyond words a tragedy. It was also an accident. Officer Mehserle intended to use his taser and due to a set of terrible circumstances used the wrong tool for the situation. Guilty of murder...no...but certainly of involuntary manslaughter. This article explains what happened: The BART shooting tragedy: Lessons to be learned A horrible tragedy...words don't even express it. A man is dead and an officer's life ruined over an accident. A horrible, horrible accident. I carry my taser in an off hand holster because I never want this to happen to me. This incident solidified my decision/belief and some departments now require this, because of this accident. Treyvon Martin. The media has so distorted the facts in this case that anyone trying to use this as an example of what is wrong with policing makes themselves laughable. At least one media outlet has already admitted to "doctoring" the story. I've been in law enforcement for 15 years. I am the typical officer. I respond to thousands of calls for service every year. I write hundreds of reports. I interact with thousands and thousands and thousands of people yearly. We don't shoot people very often, we don't tase people very often, we don't pepper spray people very often, we don't use force on people very often. My philosophy and that of the vast majority of my co-workers: Treat people with as much respect as they allow me to. The myth of police brutatlity, promoted by the leftist media is exactly that...a myth. Are there unjustified incidents? Of course. They are the exception, not the norm. But they sure make great media don't they. The police make unpopular decisions. Everything from writing tickets, to making arrests, to not doing what someone wants you to do, even if it is unjustified or illegal. Yes, we get people all the time who want us to break the law, "just for them." It makes them mad when we don't. The bad apples are a problem for us. We do our best to get rid of them and where appropriate charge them. Fortunately they are far fewer then the media portrays.

Are you advocating shooting a police officer? Mods/admins....I take extreme exception to this post and poster.
  21. Yes it is a violation in Utah. 41-6a-711. Following another vehicle -- Safe distance -- Exceptions. (1) The operator of a vehicle: (a) may not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having regard for the: (i) speed of the vehicles; (ii) traffic upon the highway; and (iii) condition of the highway; and (b) shall follow at a distance so that at least two seconds elapse before reaching the location of the vehicle directly in front of the operator's vehicle. My crazy, scary dream.

I dreamed once that several of my co-workers and I were assigned to assist with Pres. Hinckley's security detail. We ended up in a wild shootout with Al-Qaeda outside a ward building in the city I was working at the time.
