This is all the excuse you need! My sister started buying American Girl dolls and paraphenelia BEFORE she had the child. AND she almost cried when the child grew out of the dolls. AND we, her sisters, had to firmly tell her to get rid of the stuff because she and family live in a very small house occupied largely with American Girl dolls and paraphenelia.

It is very common here, Ontario, to hire a math tutor when your child goes through high school. This tendency causes me to wonder about the level of math instruction in high schools.

@KScience Hi there! You can try AskGramps. The Gospel Library app has both the seminary and institute manuals. These manuals have references to books that you can order from Deseret books. You can google FairMormon. they have essays on various topics. Ldsnewroom has a list of essays. The Sunday school teacher might have an interest in certain topics eg where are the lost ten tribes? But most of these deep questions are answered only through speculation. These speculations or gospel hobbies are not really the job of the church to answer. We can hope for a really insightful Sunday School class in the next life. The church isn’t in the business of clearing up all the gospel mysteries. If something is bugging you, eg Where are the Lost Tribes? post the question here or try some of the resources listed above. The function of Sunday School is not to dig deep. Instead to instruct on a basic level and, if you know all the basics, to remind. Is the problem that you are bored with Sunday School?

I await developments. I was in a Relief Society meeting when they played a video from salt lake. The purpose of the video was to redefine the priorities of visiting teaching. Previously we serviced active sisters first. Based on the video, we were now to serve active sisters last. In our area, that means no visiting teaching for active sisters. We have a ratio of 5:1 inactive to active. The sisters were angry and hurt. i personally would have ‘made an accommodation for local circumstances’ and not changed priorities. However, in a high needs location when you are treading water all the time, it is hard to think outside the box. Creativity is tough when you are on the firing line. i see good people making bad decisions in my stake and I sometimes wonder what kind of guidance they are getting from the above the stake level.

I sometimes feel that our church is designed for only certain types of families. We have a faith that should welcome all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds as we spread throughout the world. We need to be more accommodating to different circumstances.

Well I guess we are about to find out!

We are more and more a church of converts. The 3 hour block is hard on those, like me, who have nonmormon relatives to service. 3 hours on Sunday may be ok if your family is lds. I wonder if we are now a majority of converts world wide? The PEW research is USA based.
