  1. A stake representative, with no warning and completely out of context, told me this story about a similar situation. A single mother with 4 young kids was told by a local bishop that she had to attend church not in the chapel around the corner but 45 minutes away. This 45 minutes in snowy Canada on a Sunday (no plows out) becomes frankly white knuckle dangerous especially in a rural setting. So what happened? We lost that family. Eternal consequences for generations. There are times when local representatives need to use their heads

  3. Agree with @Jane_Doe and @LiterateParakeet Breaking the Law of Chasity is a huge deal. I would not allow it in my home. Your son’s eternal progression is important.

There is no reason why a youth group or bunch of thespians could not pull off a small pageant. I organized a presentation of 3rd Nephi, Christ appears in America with three people and some sound effects. Very doable.
  5. @dahlia Better to attend church than not to attend church. If you really feel that you need to attend a particular ward, do so. My city once had two wards. Lots of people attended ‘the wrong ward’. No one is going to stop you and in the places that I have lived the bishop and stake pres’s are way too busy to try to force people to obey such rules. Now if you open a casino, they might find you, smirk 😏! If someone says something, just give them a big 😃
  6. @JoyGraceMercy Glad that you are here! You probably need to start plotting a path that will allow you to live under your own roof. Read the Book of Mormon secretly if necessary. Insisting that your 20 year old child drinks tea or coffee is inappropriately intrusive. It may take a year or two but you need to live on your own. How far are you from financial independence?
  7. Hi @marge ! Pleased to have you here! 😀

I hope that they do not stop nativities. Nativities are a big draw in my area and help to remind others of our worship of Christ.
  10. @Grunt Have a great time! I hear that the used bookstores have some great lds books or you could just look at abebooks.com when you get home. Ridges is a great author for scriptures. Orson Scott Card for fiction. 😊
  11. @marge 👋 Hi! Glad that you are here!

Are we trying to save $?
  13. @carlimac I agree with you but...the stake Pres is a volunteer (as are you of course!). Stake Pres May view his payback for all those hours as running things his way. Let him. This not a fight that you are going win. Support him and let your daughters hold their own fun activities at your place. You might want invite the whole class even the less popular. Tells us about the parties!
  14. I am just sad about my Book of Mormon collection. I have 3 at the office and two at home. I have been able to place...zero! Why? That crabby and rude Anti_3 Nephi got there first! This is why, I get really annoyed with members who insist on being ‘authentic’. ‘If I think something, I am going to say it!’ Please be civil to others. Try to be pleasant! We are trying to attract people to our faith!
  15. I find that if it is the case that there is someone who is judgemental or has a gospel hobby that they like to use as a weapon that this person also has other issues. The ‘drive people away’ person is unusual not the norm. Unfortunately Mr/Ms Alienator can have contact with a lot of people. Almost every nonmember I have tried to talk to about the church tells me about that guy or that girl who was mean to them at work or at school. It is as though we have an army of Anti-3 Nephites who go around being mean to other people!
  16. It is amazing to me how calmly many of my colleagues feel about an arranged marriage. Many of my colleagues are from cultures where arranged marriage is common. Older colleagues were told who they would marry. Three sons would often marry 3 sisters. Younger colleagues are taken to meet a variety of approved women. I have spoken with students, bright people in their mid 20s, whose parents are in the midst of finding them a mate. People can get used to anything.
  17. I find this judgemental response to casual dress at church to be really strange. Don’t these wards have any casual visitors? Do all churches in the area have formal dress standards? It is normal here for people to attend a Protestant church wearing jeans so naturally on the first visit to The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, people wear jeans. Anyone under the age of forty at a Catholic Church will wear jeans as well. Odd. In Ontario if you go to the theatre or the opera, people often dress up but in Quebec, jeans!
  18. I need to do something good! By the way, I just got am email from someone who lives in Hell’s Bottom SulferWay Saba Island
  19. @Bini What’s the harm? Try a few dates! You could have fun. Who know? He might be the love of your life!
  20. If you have an id and password for lds.org, click on name of temple and login https://www.lds.org/temples/list?lang=eng email the temple at the email address. Put prayer list in the subject line. if you do nor have an I’d and password, try to google you nearest temple and look for an email address.
  21. They are wearing very long tops that cover all sensitive areas and...I imagine ankle length garments. Whatever we love in fashion today will embarrass us terribly tomorrow! Good for our humility!
  22. Chap on the bottom is going to get his hand stepped on!

  24. Thank you! I will try this! Having a migraine at the moment so will wait till tomorrow thank you!
  25. I was connected to the computer via USB. Nothing happened so I emailed garmin. A technician called me, connected to my computer, told me that I needed new drivers and told me that I would need to pay for the drivers.
