  1. I took my Endowments in January. By four days before the appointed day the nerves kicked in. By the time I got through the Temple doors all signs of nervousness just vanished into thin air to be replaced by subdued excitement of the commitment I was about to make. Our Temple gave me a clear Temple Recommend Holder - even though I had already bought a fancy affair to be prepared. Don't worry about the Endowment process. You are led by the hand from the moment you arrive at the front door of the Temple to the moment you take your Endowments and afterwards too. My Escort had very little to do except to be with me by my side. It took all of the 90 minutes prep that they require to get through the various bits and pieces to get organised for the Endowment portion. You don't need to remember anything. I remember the Bishop saying to me that all I needed to really pay attention to was taking the Covenants. Actually I do remember most of the whole thing although not word for word, obviously. Enjoy it, it is a most wonderful, spiritual and transforming experience.
  2. A Synopsis by Victor Zammit Is there life after death? What form does it take? Various Christian denominations and leaders have taught conflicting answers to those two questions: We eventually land up in Heaven, Hell, Limbo, Purgatory, Sheol, or some other place, state, or condition. We simply disappear and cease to exist in any form. Our souls separate immediately from our body and go to Heaven or Hell while our bodies remain on Earth to decay. We sleep for a long time after death before waking up for a final judgment. We are reincarnated into new bodies to live another lifetime on Earth, either as a human or animal. We go through a number of steps after death before we end up in our final destination. Infants who die go to Limbo, where they remain in an infant state forever.
  3. We need someone not LDS to address this post!! I wasn't mainstream Christian before becoming LDS. In fact I wasn't even Christian at all!
  4. We believe that we existed as spirits before we came to this earth. As spirits, we lived with our Heavenly Father. When we were born, our spiritual bodies joined with our physical bodies. On this earth we grow and gain valuable experiences, solidifying relationships and learning to follow God's commandments. When we die our spirits and our bodies once again separate, but not permanently. Because Christ suffered on the cross, died, and was resurrected on the third day, He overcame death for all of us. All of us will be resurrected, meaning that our bodies and our spirits will once again be united. Our resurrected bodies will be perfect, no longer feeling pain, sickness or death. Christ gave this gift to all of us, no matter how we lived our lives on earth. However, if we live righteously and follow all of God's commandments, He will give us an even greater gift. If we live righteously we can live with Him and our families forever. The relationships that we formed on earth will continue after this life. I am so grateful to know that as long as I follow God's commandments, I can be with my family forever.
  5. That's just it. Nobody said that I could/could not take the Sacrament. Babies as young as 18 months old take Sacrament in our Ward. Children are innocent in the eyes of God and if they pass before they are 8 years of age they go straight to the Celestial Kingdom. Therefore there is no reason for them not to take Sacrament before they are baptised into the LDS Church. It is mortal man making rules and regulations that they have no business making. Until such time as the First Presidency declare that all non-members cannot take Sacrament then it should be left as it is. What is the point about all this pontificating about stuff that has nothing to do with us ?? A lot of folks on this Forum judge others when they have no place to do so, whether they are Priesthood holders or not. I was judged from the very beginning - by bigotted individuals who chose to label me. I am leaving the Forum, it is a total waste of space.
  6. When I started attending an LDS Church I had been investigating the Church, reading LDS books, etc for some 10 months. The day I first attended a Sacrament Meeting I was in total adherence to the WoW and the principles of the Church. The only thing I had not had was the baptism. If someone had said to me that first day that I could not take Sacrament I would not have gone back.
  7. The iPod Touch is fab. The better option is an iPad - Also - iTunes is just brilliant - have used it across the old iPod, the iPod Touch and the iPad and it gets the job done
  8. There are two of us in our Ward. One of takes some of our special bread that is put onto the trays and is blessed along with the rest then brought to us first.
  9. This is a good website - LDS Clipart, Object Lessons and Lesson Helps for LDS Primary, Young Women, Relief Society, Seminary, & Primary | Mormon Share
  10. Start with what you know already - yourself, siblings, parents, grandparents, other close family members then work from there. Be warned - it is addictive!!
  11. So if it is 'not a requirement' why was I asked the question when going for my own Endowments???? I was being questioned by the Temple President's wife. I do feel that it is totally necessary for someone to have the Temple classes before undertaking their Endowments so that they realise the full gravity of the step that they are taking.
  12. I was told NOT to reveal any of the Endowment to anyone, and I will stick by that. Nobody revealed any of the Endowment to me prior to my taking it for myself. I will certainly not discuss any of it with anyone, whether on an internet Forum or not. If you go into current Freemason history you will find that Noah is behind the practices and beliefs of the Freemasons - that is actual fact. Speak to someone whom is a Freemason and you will find out that it is true. Nothing to do with the history of the LDS Church or JS. You can look at the Freemasonry's own reference books - (Mackey, Lexicon of Freemasonry, page 324, 2004, Barnes and Noble Publishing, Inc.)
  13. From first joining the Church, if I wasn't feeling well but at Church, one of the Stake presidency would suggest having a Blessing. When I agreed she went and found my Home Teachers and got them to do it. Now I just ask when I feel I need one done. The very fact that someone sits down on the chair in order to have the Blessing done is agreeing to it being done, so I can't see any problem in someone else asking for that Blessing on the Member's behalf.
  14. What was your mood today? Calm and happy What were your activities today? Went to Church for 9.30am. Got home at 2pm. Had lunch. Changed into pyjamas. Read some from two LDS books and went over the work for the Class for this week's Adult Institute Why do you usually dress the way you do? Being properly dressed is important to me. I like to look nice for me, never mind everybody else.
  15. I took my Endowments on Saturday and I was asked as part of the Temple process if I had done all the Temple prep classes. In our Ward, a lady was ill for two sessions of the class and the tutor took those two classes with her after the rest of us had finished.
  16. I have a very good friend whom is a Freemason and has been for 30 years. Freemasonry dates back to the patriarch Noah. Not going to discuss the LDS Temple since we make covenants not to do so.
  17. The normal wedding ceremony, either the Temple or the Ward building does not have a specific section for exchange of rings where they say anything about the rings. Our Ward weddings in the Chapel have been simply that the couple exchange rings and everyone watches.
  18. I have the autoimmune/chronic disease too, so that is now three of us. At least if I have a really bad pain day I can still get stuff done online and keep in touch with the outside world via the internet.
  19. Regarding clothes for Sunday Services. A lot of the ladies in my Ward where a choice of two or three suits and simply change the blouse or sweater underneath - depending on the weather. The skirt and different tops is a good idea, though. I tend to have a lot of separates that mix and match to get me through.
  20. Apologies - was thinking of the young man with Aspergers
  21. What the Americans should be doing is paying Richard O'Dwyer to gain information from him to tighten up their security system, instead of berating him for THEIR website security for being so lax in the first place. In the UK the banks pay clever young men and women to investigate security on their websites and each time they report a problem they pay them £50.
  22. No problem. I was taken aback at the way she told the story. She is BIC and is about 35 now, third generation LDS. I know she keeps herself and her family according to the Gospel and LDS standards, always, without any doubt. I need to ask her why she wouldn't go to a restaurant simply because it serves alcohol yet she goes to an LDS-owned Cafe (owned by a member of the Bishopric and wife) serving tea and coffee without any qualms. I don't understand why she makes the distinction between the two. To be honest I am a little concerned that if she saw me in Starbucks, albeit drinking hot chocolate, that she will think I am not following the WoW. Yet three other long-term LDS members of 50+ years membership went to the same restaurant that this member refused to go to for a pre-Christmas meal - and took me with them -and nobody raised any objections. I guess that at the end of the day it comes down to what Beefche said - that we have to know ourselves that we are doing the right thing, regardless of what anyone else thinks.
  23. Have been a member since the beginning of 2010. Taking my Endowments next week. I understand what you are saying. I have no problem with the Gospel/Teachings or anything else of that kind. The other stuff can be difficult when one Member does one thing and two others do something entirely different. Thanks for your input.
