  1. Pontius is a lot more "conservative" in his writing. He is not as open as Denver. But they agree for the most part. There are older writers who have written the same things. What I have noticed, once you learn the journey you have to take to receive your c&E/SC, is that the modern prophets seem to focus on a step of that Journey. Ever notice how Bednar always talks about DOING, or Conversion, Change of Heart, Baptism of Fire? That is the major step on the journey. If we don't get to that step there is no point shooting for the end goal. Bednar is a very good teacher and knows if he can teach others to learn themselves, govern themselves, the rest will fall into place. It is talked in conference almost every conference. They are just usually stated in a small paragraph. Haight has come out in conference and stated he saw Christ. Holland focuses on turning to Christ. Following him and angels a lot. The more you learn the better you will be able to "spot what they are saying" and why they are saying something. The purpose of the prophet/apostles is to teach nothing but repentance unto a wicked generation. We have the book of mormon, we should learn the "meat" as paul puts it ourself.
  2. I just connected something I have not before. President Benson stated. If its in the Book of Mormon it is required for our salvation. Study it. Find the answers I am guilty of not doing this as I should.
  3. I wanted to post a simple thread from a talk I enjoy. Anyone reading this I invite you to ask God the eternal father if its true even if you already know its true. The Book of Mormon—Keystone of Our Religion - general-conference In another talk: The Book of Mormon Is the Word of God - Ensign Jan. 1988 - ensign What is your favorite thing of the Book of Mormon? What has it done for you to expound whats taught in the Bible? Can you say you have received a witness by the power of the Holy Ghost its true? Enjoy.
  4. I probably won't post much on here but will post scriptures. Will not answer that directly. If you want more PM me. I can probably direct you to some sources. If you notice right after/before that in 76 he sees outter darkness. Why is that? What was the Lord preparing them for? There are quite a few blog posts on this question. Ask the Lord he will show you by the spirit what the Truth is. Its a great question! Find out what receiving his fullness means.
  5. oops, typo. You are right. "shall be exalted".
  6. Requirement for Celestial Beings D&C 76:62 These shall dwell in the presence of God and his Christ forever and ever. Requirement for Terrestial Beings 76:77 These are they who receive of the presence of the Son, but not of the fulness of the Father. C&E is to state "one will be exalted" mikbone: Where is those rules written besides Fight club
  7. Just_A_Guy that statement is pretty true. "conflate" because the few men who are open about it. I say the most important step is to "recognize the spirit", "learn to obey it in all things", "yield to it"... If we do that than everything else will fall into place. I do find my learning though has helped me do this.
  8. Not me. I think it is by all. I don't have it yet but whats available to the greatest is "available to the weakest"... irrelevant: Well I say no but all things will come naturally to those who are obedient. You do not have to know what THESE things ARE to receive them. They are given to those who BECOME and ASK (as spirit directs!). (my opinion)
  9. Book of Mormon: Joseph Smith In all ages past, when the fulness of the gospel has been present on the earth with the Lord's people, prophets have sought to prepare the people to be brought back into God's presence during mortality so that a Zion society would emerge in which the Lord could dwell freely among them. The prophet Enoch sought for this for his people and succeeded (Moses 7:16-19). The prophet Melchizedek sought for this for his people and also succeeded (JST, Genesis 14:33-34). Moses also sought this for the children of Israel as directed by the Lord (Exodus 19:10-11, 16-17), taught them plainly what was needed, and sought diligently to sanctify his people so that they would be able to behold the face of God in mortality (D&C 84:22-24; Exodus 29:42-46), but most of them did not accept the blessing that was offered (Exodus 20:18-19), although some of them did (Exodus 24:9-11). The same purpose exists in the current gospel dispensation (D&C 109:5; D&C 45:66-67; 1 Nephi 10:19) as established through Joseph Smith, and he and other prophets and apostles have taught these principles extensively.
  10. To answer the OP question. I quoted a few sources. I can track more, or actual sources to study if you are interested. If people are skeptical of reading denvers words about it than I would recommend John Pontius Following the Light of Christ into his presence, ALSO read Josephs Smiths words and the Book of Mormons or modern day prophets. Each story in the book of mormon talks about "rending the veil of unbelief" as a poster mentioned. Why put that in there if its not for us? McConkie was a major apostle who always talked about receiving this blessing. Infact here is what Bednar said to learn something new: Take a highlighter, go read the book of mormon all the way through, highlight every time someone talks about seeing Christ. Learn the steps for yourself The words of the prophet Joseph Smith book has quote after quote after quote after quote after quote about the 2nd comforter. Its a blessing for all and should be saught after. Lorenzo snow talked about it in Lesson 5 The grand destiny of the saints student manual published by the church. The temple is symbolic of us receiving this blessing in our lives in THIS LIFE. Its more achievable than most believe it to be. But that is between you and the Lord. Elder Bruce R. McConkie, “How to Get Personal Revelation” (http://www.lds.org/new-era/1980/06/how-to-get-personal-revelation): President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, “Your Potential, Your Privilege” (http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2011/04/your-potential-your-privilege): Here is a fun little video that was made to illustrate President Uchtdorf’s parable about the man who was living far beneath his privileges on the cruise ship: Last I will quote McConkie in his very powerful and inspiring conference talk. Read it! Refer to the talk here: The Purifying Power of Gethsemane More sources: Calling and Election: BYU compilation of quotes 10. 11. I spend 10 hours a day while at work plus those days I spend another hour or two at home. Than I spend about 4-7 hours other days to study LDS stuff, read books (try to use kindle), or post. My eyes are taking a toll now lol. I am cutting back now that school is about over though.
  12. I seem to keep saying things that upset people. I apologize. I don't mean to I'll attempt to clarify and if I can't over this last post I will just drop the topic. I am new at this forum stuff a bit. If its a new principle, Yes we do. That is the words of Brigham Young, Elder McConkie, President Benson, Elder Packer, etc. etc... etc... IT IS NOT a SLIPPERY SLOPE. Its a slippery slope to be on both sides. 1) To not trust the prophets at all and ignore them is very dangerous and damning 2) to trust them so much you do not learn or become anything yourself is just as dangerous. I understand what you are saying though, I don't think you were referring to that. I feel you didn't understand what I said.?? I could start a thread on this, the Lord will direct us to truth we are ready to hear. Why teach us correct principles? So we can Govern OURSELVES. The prophets are there to teach us. We listen and learn but govern ourselves. If Nephi listened to the prophets he never would have killed Laban. If Lehi would have listened to Joshua he never would have left Jerusalem only repented (he was informed by an vision to leave). If others stayed in Jerusalem because Joshua was still there thinking it was safe they would have been destroyed. These prophets were teaching the word of God. But if they didn't govern themselves they would have been killed with the rest of them. [deleted] Not hte proper place to post this. I am now dropping this. I say follow the guidelines unless the spirit directs you differently. Follow this link for a handful a quotes that clarifies the subject... Inspiration of Leaders I have prayed and know the Leaders, prophet, apostles ARE inspired by God and this church is the Saviors.
  13. Nope, its the Lord's church. People make mistakes, things are done due to the traditions of man. Its up to us to gain a witness through the spirit how it is to be done for ourselves. As said in last conference, "do we expect the prophet to tell us ALL where to live". I don't mean to start a argument on the linguistics of it all. Just because something is written in an Ensign doesn't mean its doctrine or correct. People make mistakes, ideas are not always correct, but people who write them are men who are doing their best trying to be inspired (hopefully!). That is all the Lord asks us to do. Things should be done by the spirit of the law, not the letter of the law. That's what the jews did, thats what many do today that cause them to "look beyond the mark". They forget to seek the spirit in all things and miss what the Savior has for them at this moment. As McConkie stated, "The church is only a vehicle", that can be used to bring us closer to Christ. It will not save us, we will save ourselves (10 virgins). But we need the ordinances don't get me wrong. Or take my statements out of context. I love the church, and owe my life to everyone who has sacrificed so much to give us the saving ordinances. I hope I didn't come off the wrong way on what I am really trying to say. I am saying don't be caught up on every single literal law we forget to seek the spirits confirmation on whether its right for us or not.
  14. No I understood it the first time. But now that I read this explanation, I had an impression. When I had those problems I had talked to my bishop and he gave mee this exact council (I had forgotten until now but fairly certain the spirit brought it to my remembrance). He said, "maybe you should take a break from each other for a time". I wasn't going to do that because I was just about engaged, and did get engaged. Now I have changed my mind and agree with it if its right for the person. Pray about it ... I should of of done that myself when I had the chance lol.
  15. I would pray about your decision. I am not sure I agree with the advice in that ensign entirely (partially do). But I have not prayed about it. There are exceptions to everything and that is between you and the Lord. Not you and the Church.
  16. I believe we are... But now, thats speculation... and that's another thread.
  17. I have not read anyones responses. Only replying to this one. 1) I don't feel its wrong to get married civily first, I even did it (couldn't get a sealing cancelation, and didn't want to wait a year for it since I would wait a year anyways if I got married civily) Though, It would be nice if there wasn't that 1 year, sealings are important, and that is thee only reason why its worth not waiting. The early days of the church nobody was married in the temples (from what I heard). They married outside than when and got sealed immediately. Follow the spirit. 2) My wife when first married had the same problem. Have two events. One outside the temple. Even could "renew your vows", within a few hours. :lol. Ring ceremony, something formal. Anything. Good luck. It will only get worse the closer it gets . But once the day is over, people will forget mostly about it.
  18. I think too often we don't realize the Independence he had, the growth he himself took. He was basically asking, Is there no other way for me to atone for others? I wish there was another way but if there isn't I will do it this way. He didn't know the will of all things apparently. He just sought after god's will continuously and did it.
  19. This person who hijacked the thread, said it beautifully. Blessings all to receive before they depart this life.
  20. Yes me too... I have read many Near Death Experienced books and yet to see how it could be important. Any input would be nice. The only element I have pertaining to this. There are some thing we must learn through angels. The endowment speaks of this. What would the purpose of knowing "an angel of light" or "angel of darkness" if we didn't need to know it. However, their call is to progress us further in some areas, the blessings of the Aaronic Priesthood, once we reach a certain point of progression. Sometimes they are too warn, other times to protect us. Does it matter who they return and report too?
  21. You sound like myself. I am extremely independent. I didn't plan on getting married till like 26 at the minimum hoping for 30... I ended up getting married at 24 . Why did I do that? hehe. Just find someone that has those interests with you and you can do it together. You sound like my wife too. She loooves traveling, we loved hanging out till late hours, etc... But, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just be yourself. When you are ready you will know it. Else the Lord may hit you on the head when its time lol.
  22. My response is off topic. I am not sure what you are referring to so I will post on this my thoughts . The temple is symbolic of our bodies. Our body is a Temple of God. What happens in the temple is symbolic of what must happen inside of us. Every literal part has a symbolic part. While the literal does represent something, its the symbolic portion that allows us to walk back into the presence of God. If we never receive the symbolic blessings of the temple, our ordinance is in vain and will do us no Good. Just like baptism does us nothing without the other half, baptism by fire (paraphrasing Joseph Smith, calls it the "complete baptism"). So it is with the endowment, we need BOTH, physical and spiritual part. The spiritual is the element of becoming something anew (reborn). One does not have to know what they are symbolic of to receive the spiritual side though. They are taught already in the church every Sunday. Baptism, Receive holy ghost, Baptism by fire, change of heart, continue proving your self in all things until you receive your calling and election, receive Christ, The rest of it will follow. The temple is symbolic of this becoming.
  23. I will add on about your covenants. If she did commit adultery you are justified to divorce even with your temple covenants. But I would still do all you could to save it and you better be positive the Lord is ok with it. If you don't get that ok perhaps you don't know the whole story or the Lord has something else in store for you.
  24. Guess others got to it already... One note though. May I ask how old lol? This is the attitude of the current generation. I thought the same thing, than I found someone and surprisingly my attitude changed.! I just got married a year ago. Go date, enjoy dating. When you find someone the desire to be married will change. If you will allow it. lol Trust me, my friends thought I was the LAST person to get married. haha. I dated her almost 2 years before I got myself to do it. There is a time a place for all things. If you are worthy of hte spirit it will tell you when to get married. You do not have to get married IMMEDIATELY. You should find the right time. Is it appropriate to put it off for "worldly things" probably not as you can easily do those things while married. But, it still may be right for you to wait. This is an individual matter between you and the Lord. There is no scripture that states when to get married. Its encouraged to do so earlier to have a family but some people don't get married till their 30's due to not finding the right person or because other reasons (some good some bad) Again, I am trying to teach you that God can answer prayers (if you don't believe that), pray to God and ask him. If its right for you the spirit will direct you to do so when its right. If you draw nigh unto God he will draw nigh unto you. Christ is the savior of the world. That is thee most important decision in your life is to find out if you believe in him, gain your own witness, determine if the LDS church's apostles and prophets are truly being directed through our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. The other things will fall into place when the time is right.
