  1. We don't use a microwave either. We also don't eat meat. When we used to eat it, it was really, really limited (and we/I weren't even Mormon yet). We did it because we knew it was better for our health. Now, occasionally we will eat fish or other seafood (salmon). But anything that walks on land is off limits, including dairy and egg products. As I've read the WoW I do believe that it says "sparingly" in regards to meat. I don't know if this is because it's bad to eat too much or if it's simply so that you're not being glutenous over meat. Maybe both. In any case, we know that meat is hard to digest, doesn't really contain as much nutrients as main stream information would like for us to believe (hello pediatrician who pushes chicken!) and some meat contains fat that is not good for the heart. Over all, too much of it is bad. What made us switch was a few reasons, but the biggest one was that it's expensive and unnecessary to nourish your body.
  2. We're vegan/vegetarian -- think they'll be okay eating dishes with no meat?
  3. My husband watches movies all of the time and I sit on my laptop and pretend to be paying attention. The last one we "watched" was Reacher or something like that. Something violent, boring and a total dude flick. Which is why I can't really remember it or anything about it.
  4. I'd ask your local missionaries for a pamphlet or two to explain basics and a copy of the Gospel Principles.
  5. Here in America, some people may own the home and the land, but they may not own mineral rights or oil rights... which can get really tricky.
  6. My family loved Brave. It's honestly the best Disney movie since The Little Mermaid. We haven't seen Frozen yet.
  7. Our ward feeds our missionaries daily. I decided to step up and feed them twice a month. But I need some ideas. We're already a family of 6. I was thinking things like chili dogs, chili, BBQ chicken... What do you usually feed them?
  8. We have a book called "the Birth Order Book by Leman" I've never read it! Haha. I'm the only child of my parents. But I'm the youngest of three daughters for my father. I've never met the oldest, whose in her late 40s and definitely was born out of lust. The middle one left home at 16 and never came back (she disowned the family), she's coming up on 40 and still acts like a child-ish brat half of the time. She was also pretty much born either out of lust or by accident or both. I'm young, at mid-20's. I was a complete and utter accidental shock -- my mother was infertile for years before she got pregnant and was told she'd never be able to have children. They never had another accidental pregnancy and 10 years after I was born my father had his tubes tied because my parents decided after 10 years they really just enjoyed having just me. They had tried though in those 10 years to have another. I feel really lucky and happy with how I grew up. Although I was extremely lonely as a child, I did get all of my parent's attention and affections. I learned a lot about life and how to be self-reliant. My husband is the youngest born (out of two children). He very typically the second born personality. Never feels good enough in all that he does in comparison to his older sibling. All four of our children were planned and we've never had an accidental pregnancy. I have absolutely no idea what this says about myself or my family. haha
  9. I forgot to say thank you for the reply! It was for a family member, so I know the full name. I just wasn't sure if I should give the full name or not. Thanks again for helping!
  10. Do I just pull him aside or should I make an appointment to chat? That'll sound great "oh, I know I'll get a calling soon... so just don't give me anything that demands too much time. One I could do at home would be great.". Won't it? We did talk about the 6-12 month mark because I expressed I deep desire to go to the Temple at my 1 year mark to receive my endowment. So we talked about needing a calling before I could do that. I'll keep this in mind and try not to get discourage if my calling doesn't come soon.
  11. I highly doubt he knows my time demands. He doesn't know me very well. The other reason I've been (dreading?) pondering this is because my husband and I share one vehicle for our family. He works 30 minutes away and commutes six days a week. I just have no idea how I'd be able to fit in a regularly scheduled thing (my son has to get regular rides to scout meetings because I can't take him) and almost every Sunday we have to get a ride from another family because 1. my husband works every single Sunday from 9:30-8. And 2. church is too far to walk or else I'd do that. I absolutely hate asking for rides. I feel bad doing it -- like I'm using people. It's taken me a lot to accept rides on a weekly basis to church. I still refuse rides to the school and just walk my kids to school 2 miles away. I was just taught to be as self reliant as you can and only take help when you 100% have no other choices. Aside from the vehicle situation is baby sitter issues if I needed to leave our home when my husband wasn't home. I'm already having this issue with my VT. I just have to go when my husband is home and can watch the kids and try to coordinate with my companion. It's hectic and I feel really bad my companion is having to be a go-between. I bake treats to make up for this. I guess my entire point is that I'm anxious about being offered something that I know I will not be able to do or give my best at and I know how bad it will make me feel about myself. I want to do a good job for Heavenly Father, I don't want to be set up to fail. I know Heavenly Father wouldn't set me up to fail, I just worry the Bishop might not realize how tight my schedule is. dahlia, if I had a calling I could do from home, through emails, over the phone/the internet that would be perfect and ideal. Maybe Heavenly Father will keep this post in mind when he whispers into my Bishop's ear. haha!
  12. Wasn't sure where to post this, but it's been on my mind. I'm a new convert (October of last year). And recently everyone has been asking me if I've received a calling yet. I haven't. I'm not sure when to expect it. Someone told me to pray for one. I honestly am not sure if I'm ready to do that yet. I was assigned to three women as a VT last month (does everyone get three? When they asked if I'd be comfortable doing this it was just one person. When I got the actual paper it was three). I received my PB last month also. I have four kids at home, two aren't in school yet. I work from home on a job and I own a small business. I am a student from home through an extension program with Harvard. I'm busy, busy, busy and I rarely get four hours of sleep at night. I'm just praying my calling will be easy on my time. My Bishop says I'm "moving along nicely and is proud of me". I'm not really sure exactly what he means by that, but it was nice to be encouraged. What do new converts typically get offered and when? I know this is usually inspired by the spirit, but I also know that the Bishop usually takes into account your home/family life too.
  13. I love my WP blog! It's so easy.
  14. When submitting a name should it be their full name or just first and last or just first?
  15. We have Wifi in our home, which we use two different ways on the TV. Wii XBox 360 We prefer Wii's set up. We're able to browse the internet, download apps, like, YouTube and Amazon Video. We watch movies and TV shows using Netflix and Amazon. We don't have a cable provider so we can't access things like HBOGo. We also have a digital antennae, but we live so far out in the country we can't pick up any stations! It's a waste. I refuse to pay for cable through one of those big providers and we don't have a local company. So we stick to old re-runs on Netflix and get excited when a new season comes out on Amazon of a favorite show! In the end we save $100's a year doing it this way! I really don't mind skipping the cable. I just wish there was a way you could subscribe to HBOGo without needing a cable company to do so.
  16. Not to be the "young geeky" person, but I'll say this since I have been dealing with message boards and the formatting for a long time (yes, I'm a geeky HTML formatter). Sometimes when you're using certain apps to browse a forum and you quote a person it will not show the name quoted. This is a back-end issue on the forum and not the actual poster's intent. With that being said, I don't know if that's what's going on or if the person(s) is actually deleting out the names of those they're quoting (I don't see the point in that).
  17. I think true forgiveness sometimes means facing the person you were hurt by. I had to forgive my parents for abuse. So I tried to get closer to them. And over time and with prayer I did learn how to forgive them. I had to let Jesus teach me that lesson! It wasn't easy, but his example helped me a lot.
  18. Oh, and if you continue to have problems casting it out, you can fast too before you try to cast it out again. Some spirits are really strong. Try playing music in the room too every day and even maybe at night while the kids sleep, The Mormon Tabernacle choir. They really dislike things like this, even audio readings of the Bible! ETA: One more thing. I wanted to expand on the "stronger" spirit comment. There are different types of evil spirits. Unclean spirits, demons, devils and imps. Unclean Spirits are those who've passed away without the light of Christ. You can invite them to unto Jesus Christ or an angel he has waiting for them. Sometimes this works too. I actually very recently had this happen to me and it did work. This won't work with any other type of spirit though.
  19. One of my gifts is the gift of discernment and so I do have a lot of experience with this from before I converted to the church. I was recently told I have a "very thin veil". Not exactly sure what that means. But I've had to learn to live with certain things that used to be very scary as a child. I'm not even 100% sure what is taught by the church on this so this is my own opinion that I'll respond. Speak to your Bishop, please let him know this is happening. It's good for someone outside the home to be aware of the situation so they can encourage and assist you if needed. Please be cautious first of all. Be ever so cautious. They can attach themselves to us. This is different from possession. There are so many ways they could have entered your home. You'll probably never know for certain, unless it's an object or person attachment. If your daughter is going with the Sister Missionaries, make sure she is not being followed by evil spirits. They can and do follow us around and we may accidentally bring them home. You should also ask your daughter to faithfully pray for this evil spirit to be cast away. It doesn't have to be a Priesthood holder to ask for this. You cannot "ask" for the spirit to leave, you must demand it to leave.I know you said you did this, that's awesome! Sometimes it takes more than once with stronger spirits. It has no authority in your home or over your family. Let it know that. Tell your daughter this. Don't give it any authority, such as allowing it to make you fearful. Let this knowledge strengthen her. And do NOT be afraid of it. They feed off of your fear and sometimes this can allow them to attach themselves. So remind your children that evil spirits have no power over your home or your family. Remember even Jesus had to tell Satan to "go away" from him.
  20. I cry every time I hear a account of what they went through. The one sister begged God to let her drown; it had always been her worst fear to die that way. I'm so glad they're safe.
  21. Never mind. I found my own answer. hehe https://familysearch.org/ask/productSupport#article=kaB30000000Gn1UEAS
  22. Does it matter what order ordinances are done? I noticed today some of my ancestors have had ordinances printed, awaiting them to be completed. But they're not in order. For instance, one's baptism and sealing to spouse has been printed, but nothing else has been printed (or completed) yet.
  23. Thank you. Thank you so much for this. This comforts me a lot.
