  1. Just checking -- kids do need to do things on their own too. This is the kid hang out house when were home. The skateboard, swimming, water skiing (she does that with the grandparents), and 'girlfriends' are her. sgallan, if you have intelligence, health and so much energy it's a pity you only have one child. Kinda robbing the gene pool, don't you think? The least you could do is volunteer services for a sperm bank -- no joking, pass on those traits to the next generation. That's a terrific idea. I think I'll look into that. But remember now, my lack of belief in a Higher Power might be genetic too. As for porkers, don't you think we are pampering this generation way too much? Kids spend hours in front of the x-box, MSN chat, etc. and get all the junkfood they want. No wonder they are out of shape. Agreed. That is the point you should have stressed more than the 'number of kids'. I coach and all of the kids who hang around here DO NOT just play x-box, or on the computer. And other than around the hollidays there is no junk food in this house. My kids (I might add) are not out of shape. True, I can outrun them (distance) and outswim them but they are far ahead of their peers. Excellent! I did view "Supersize Me" and one guy featured did bring up the irony that it is okay to question someone's smoking, but it isn't socially acceptable to question their overeating. That has got to change or else we Gen-Xers (born 1960 - the late 1970s) will peak the longevity charts in a few decades and then there will be a sharp decline. I could not agree with you more!
  2. I compete too (or did until a year ago). I got my own accolades thank you. Plus she's not the only one I coach. I am proud of all those kids. Her example was just more germaine to this thread. The amount of stuff she can do is a lot of genetics. It was my first hint I had a prodigy. The gymnastic stuff she taught herself. I started her on weights, but now she tells me she wants to do them. If anything I have to hold her back because she will push herself too hard. I only wish I had that kind of energy. And if you think it's all stuff for wrestling all the time. Ha! She skateboards. Water and snow ski's. Rock climbs (she paid the $150 for the lesson out of her own money). Hikes (we did half dome to the top this summer). Swims. Tae Kwan do. Scuba will be this spring (we are going dutch on this one too). Activity is a Gallan family trait. My dad is an active skydiver at 64 and raced dirt bikes (age group) up until last year. Oh, and you really need to get consistant on your arguments. First you complain about porkers. Then you moan about me "pushing".
  3. Go figure then that I have only one child and she can do 17 chin ups, run a 8 minute mile (age 10 and only 53 inches tall), over 100 push ups, 80 sit ups in a minute, front and back handsprings, and so on.
  4. When you advocate the Devil’s position do you realize you are destined for nothing but failure??? Well I don't believe in the devil. But I am not a fan of any gods either, so it all looks pretty much the same, as most gods act a lot like what I envision the devil to be.....
  5. One district. But it has been a national story for quite sometime.
  6. I'm in love.....
  7. FWIW, I knew this from an article in some newspaper (I have several bookmarked and can't remember which one) I read over the weekend. For future reference I rarely say stuff like this unless there is validity to it. Funny thing about posting as a real person is you can get caught when you make stuff up, or lie.
  8. From Wikipedia..... Jones is Lutheran, Republican, married and has two children. He has a share of a business, Distinct Golf, which runs five golf courses in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. It is operated by others in his family.

  10. The Judge is a church going Republican no less. Perish the thought.....
  11. And the bottom line is..... "Intelligent design" is "a religious alternative masquerading as a scientific theory"
  12. The Judge does speak his mind...... "The citizens of the Dover area were poorly served by the members of the Board who voted for the ID Policy," Jones wrote, calling the board's decision "breathtaking inanity." "The students, parents, and teachers of the Dover Area School District deserved better than to be dragged into this legal maelstrom, with its resulting utter waste of monetary and personal resources," he wrote. And..... Said the judge: "It is ironic that several of these individuals, who so staunchly and proudly touted their religious convictions in public, would time and again lie to cover their tracks and disguise the real purpose behind the ID Policy."
  13. From the AP..... HARRISBURG, Pa. - "Intelligent design" cannot be mentioned in biology classes in a Pennsylvania public school district, a federal judge said Tuesday, ruling in one of the biggest courtroom clashes on evolution since the 1925 Scopes trial. Dover Area School Board members violated the Constitution when they ordered that its biology curriculum include the notion that life on Earth was produced by an unidentified intelligent cause, U.S. District Judge John E. Jones III said. Several members repeatedly lied to cover their motives, he said. The article can be found by following this link.... http://news.yahoo.com/fc/US/Church___State_Issues/
  14. I'm on Canada's side.
  15. My first one would be an endless number of wishes. That sort of takes care of the rest.
  16. My long lost twin sister....
  17. Looking at the choices I am annoyed that there wasn't a choice for Godless Heathen!
  18. My conclusion, therefore, is that Christianity, other types of religion and Atheism are no better nor worse than each other... Yeah, people are just people. I voted neutral as well.
  19. If you think you're going to invite her up to stay with the intention of turning her straight....I hate to burst your bubble but that would only cause her to, as a friend of mine says, "crank up the gay". Indeed. The first time I met my late BIL he hadn't been out all that long and was definately trying to make an "impression". Frosted hair, extensive culinary knowledge, ordered off menu, and with a lot of 'swish'. Los Angeles gay to the 'T'. It really wasn't what he was like, and when I wasn't shocked, and actually didn't seem to care about any of it, he got out of the 'role' on all subsequent meetings. That part of our family is/was among the ones we became closest to over the years.
  20. The official religion of Communism is atheism. Atheism is a faith system, because one cannot scientifically prove the absence of God. True, but you can't officially disprove the Dragon living under my house nor the Flying Spaghetti Monster either.
  21. i honestly think there is no earthly love stronger than a mother's love for her children. I only wish this were always the case.
  22. I would argue that you do have faith. Whether you call yourself an atheist, agnostic, or Deist--none of these theological belief systems can be verified. They are positions of faith. I do have faith. For example yesterday my kid was wrestling in a Junior High tournament (she is 10) in a weight class which is ten pounds hevier than she weighs. In her final match she's wrestling for 3/4 against a strong twelve year old boy. I had faith she'd win. She did 4-2. So I have faith it's just that mine is more of a secular variety. BTW, do believe in the invisible Fire Breating Dragon under my house. If not, then you know why I don't believe in your god (a play of my sig :) ) Perhaps what annoys people is that you do not believe as they do. Yup, sometimes they get mad and consign me to a bad place. This has happened.... oh, over a hundred times easily. If so, just tell them that they should, "Let go and let God." LOL.... that would annoy some of 'em for sure.
  23. But, the so-called "arrogance" you find irritating Where did I say I find it irratating? I was just making an observation. So, one man's arrogance is another man's faith, I suppose. Indeed. I find sometimes people get annoyed at me for my lack of faith as well.
  24. The feminist movement reminds me of the NRA. I am pro-gun and pro- equal rights but both groups that support these things are whacked.....
  25. Sugar is right, as a good friend of mine says, we hate the sin, and love the person. I don't often here much about "love" in these conversations.
