  1. 1 Cor. 1:26-31 26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him aglory in the Lord.
  2. What has not been discussed is the fact that we know these priesthood holders who are called as Bishops. Can we distinguish our knowledge of them on a personal basis and their ability or worthiness to act as a Bishop? How often have you served a calling with someone who is then called as a Bishop? Have you been concerned about someone's testimony of the gospel and then witnessed his calling as a Bishop. Have you ever disassociated with a member because their dealings in the priesthood were unethical and then witnessed them being called to be a Bishop? Our Bishops are not strangers. If so&so were ever called as a Bishop would I ever confide anything personal and would I seek his counsel? A member who has disrespected me and is called as a Bishop; would I honor his calling? There are members so discouraged with Bishop callings that they simply go home. There is not a man amongst us who would please us all. I am sure that there are men who pray "I'm a cheat and a liar. Why hast thou called me to be a Bishop?"
  3. These are all very good ideas for teaching the young ones. We always love making the Christmas Chain. (take one chain off every night to count the days until Christmas) On each chain, you write a line of the Christmas Story. (red & green construction paper, cut strips, circle, and fasten inside the next ring, staple/tape each circle) At bedtime, remove the last chain circle and read the line. By Christmas you have read the story, bit by bit, and talked about it each night.
  4. Gaia wrote: [c) There is not much "preparation" for MOtherhood; As many people have noted, you have to have a license to catch fish or drive a car, but(nearly) any female past puberty can be a mother.] This is the most unreligious thing that I have ever read. This may also be one of the most ridiculous statements ever made. A moment of silence please.
  5. The only new thing about "green tea" is the availability of it being in a convenient bottle. What is new is that the companies mfg it have developed a sweetner that people like. They have also developed flavors like lemon and lime or peach that enhance the sweetners. Basically people are drinking green tea because it taste good...........and green tea does not taste good. Just for humor here is a list of fictional plants: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fictional_plants
  6. When you consider breaking off relations with family, you evaluate your relationship with them or the family relationship as a whole. Often you are seeing your parents’ relatives through the eyes of a child. You bonded with them at an early age. You observed the choices that they were making and compared it to your mother and father’s choices. Some of those people were making better or poorer decisions about their lives. But the consequences of those choices might not be apparent for 20 or 30 years. During teenage years, you try to sort through all the family conflicts and find supportive relationships. It is though you are trying to piece together enough information to make a better life for yourself and generally to perfect your future. If your parents are cold judgmental people, you might buy into the relative who is an alcoholic or has a drug addiction problem because they are charismatic personalities. But the warm and caring nature is artificial and you really find out that they are very abusive and brutally violent. And it all becomes even more complicated with the people that they have chosen to marry and their relationships with their spouses’ families. It can change their aspects about their families to a harsh degree. It is very difficult to find compassion for a relative who makes superficial comments about the trials in our lives that causes us pain. It is because they do not know you personally and attribute your ordeals to being unworthy of a perfect life. When we think in terms of maturity, often we think of it in terms of age. Maturity is the process of dealing with trials and sacrifices. It is also how we deal with success and privileges. Most people deal with low self esteem and it is something that everyone tries to overcome during their life time. We booster our own esteem by developing our talents and spiritual gifts. We most commonly identify with the language that we have communicated with and make associates with those attributes. When we no longer are under the influence of those values, we are most offended by them. It is unfair to give a comparison of one family to another because it is just an exchange of differences. How much empathy can you share for a family member who will never be satisfied without becoming disgruntle over trivial issues of the past. We all measure it into different portions. When you put your life on hold to wait out someone in death, the years roll on. By the time that you accomplish the endurance, you have wasted most of your life and you are old too. No one has to be in constant friction with their relatives. Just set some boundaries.
  7. It was scary just to read your post. I am glad that you are okay. That must have been some storm that your family rode out. We have figured out that there is no fail proof food storage plan. I remember posting on a water storage thread about storing foods that we normally eat. And I do agree that it is easier and simpler to store canned soup than trying to store all the ingredients to make it. My refrigerator stopped working during the summer. Luckily I was down loading it because I was going on vacation. I lost about $20 (sandwich bread, luncheon meat, mustard & ketchup). I figured the bottled water was okay.
  8. Actually with the Union submitted into the story, this could not happen because the workers have a contract. And if the workers have a Union, then they also probably have a 401K. And if the workers have a Union then their supervisor is also a member of the Union. Due to Union organization, one member cannot benefit and break the contract. What happens when one member of the Union is trying to manipulate the Union with their religious values (rattling their chains per say), the Union bumps them.....and they have a job no more. That person then files a grievance with the Union. No how do the Union employees feel about that fellow.....hypocrite !!! A large majority of Union workers are Catholic. (Irish Catholic)
  9. A banner is now coming up at the top of this forum screen: FoodArk.com Is it the same company or just a similar business?
  10. With the information given, we can only assume that this is a minimum wage sweat shop and the employees are poorly educated. We must also assume that the supervisor's boss is also a production manager or what is commonly known in a sweat shop as a "floor boss." We must also assume that the supervisor is using religious persuasion to motivate the employees to work for less and also to persuade the boss into thinking that he trying to reward the sweat shop showing that he is a deserving employee of his supervisory abilities. This is a common practice in small business manufacturing companies and the employees usually seek to compensate their losses through government financial programs. The sweat shop industry is a case of bankruptcy waiting to happen. When all the employees are standing in line to file for unemployment benefits, the religious supervisor will persuade everyone that he tried desperately to save their jobs. Most of the employees will believe him.
  11. Yes, I do agree with this. I don't understand how genealogy is involved. I believe that having children is a blessing BUT it is not a substitute for missionary work NOR will it speed up the second coming.
  12. It is my understanding that Missionary work is the first and most important and prestigious work of the LDS Church. All of Isaiah is about Missionary Work. • Isaiah 53:8–11. Explain that the Book of Mormon prophet Abinadi gave a powerful commentary on these verses when he was speaking to the wicked priests of King Noah (Mosiah 15:10–13). According to Abinadi, who will be the seed of the Savior? (See also Mosiah 5:7–8.) 10 And now I say unto you, who shall declare his ageneration? Behold, I say unto you, that when his soul has been made an offering for bsin he shall see his cseed. And now what say ye? And who shall be his seed? 11 Behold I say unto you, that whosoever has heard the words of the aprophets, yea, all the holy prophets who have prophesied concerning the coming of the Lord—I say unto you, that all those who have hearkened unto their words, and believed that the Lord would redeem his people, and have looked forward to that day for a remission of their sins, I say unto you, that these are his seed, or they are the heirs of the bkingdom of God. 12 For these are they whose sins ahe has borne; these are they for whom he has died, to redeem them from their transgressions. And now, are they not his seed? 13 Yea, and are not the aprophets, every one that has opened his mouth to prophesy, that has not fallen into transgression, I mean all the holy prophets ever since the world began? I say unto you that they are his seed.
  13. I was hoping that someone would give some LDS references for this Scripture. I have not been able to find anything on my own search. I thought that it would have more to do with Missionary work.
  14. I think that I will save some of those tips for the next fish oil stain. The Dawn took out all the ground in turf from the letters and made them new looking white but the paint thinner stains were still there, just brighter too. It's too humid and rainy to try fabric paint. The football player told me that the auto body paint thinner was red so it was not dye from the shirt. I called the Sports House and they said if I removed the letters myself that they could replace them this afternoon. So that is what I did. The usual warrior helmet paint is still on the shoulders and that is supposed to stay there.
  15. Thanks. I'll wash it and use some Dawn. The fabric paint is a good idea. I was thinking of touching up the letters but I had not thought of fabric paint. It's a high school football game jersey.....no replacement.....Good News.....Senior tradition, We will buy it at the end of the season. Why don't they wear protective shields in Auto Body Class?
  16. We have a paint thinner stain on a football jersey. I am thinking that the stain was caused when the paint thinner soaked through the white letter which is sewn over the red shirt. So the pinkish stain may be dye. I had forgot about the stain and washed the jersey cold/detergent/dryer. Now it is a set-in stain. It didn't lighten up much if any when I washed it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  17. I don't think Jesus is offended in the manner that we celebrate him, only that we do so. (I personally think that he likes little green marshmallow Easter Bunnies! and Children!! Jelly Beans and Families!!!) I do think that he is offended when people do not come to Church on Easter and celebrate the day with their non-member relatives and friends who celebrate with baskets of treats and dinner. It is rather a miracle to watch an ordinary bush become a Christmas Tree. People celebrate because that is where their heart is. It's those sacrifices that are spiritual. I am angry and frustrated when people return to Church the week after Easter and start up on the Resurrection/Atonement again. It is so fake, shallow, and meaningless. So why can't we run two red carpets down the isles on Easter and have the little girls tossing rose pedals and the little boys following bearing the Scriptures. Place the scriptures on a white linen covered table with candles and invite members to come forward and read scriptures and offer a prayer or testimony. Is that wrong? I do not slam the door shut in my neighbor's face on Sunday and pretend to love them Monday-Saturday. Try living your life without celebrating your birthday, anniversary, etc. and pretty soon you will not be celebrating Sacrament, baby blessings, or anything else. I believe the Easter Pageant at the Mesa Arizona Temple is accurately named and all enjoy the festivites that accompany it!!!
  18. No. Never heard of it outside of the Old Testament tale. Rainbow Girls is one of two auxiliaries for young women. They have to have a male relative who is a Master Mason to join. Like the girl scouts, without the cookies. Jacob's ladder, which figures on the First Degree Tracing Board, ... he represents the cornerstone on which Freemasonry's spiritual Temple must be built.
  19. Is the Police Benevolent Association a part of Freemasonary?
  20. There was in the early history of traditional Christianity a lot of paganism introduced. For example the Word "Easter" does not come from any Christian Tradition and is more involved in the worship of Baal, or the resurrection of Baal. That a side. The resurrection of Christ was part of his gift of grace. The atonement was payment to overcome the effects of Sin and end the bands of hell that is death. The scriptures indicate that death and hell will give up all souls to Christ. He is L-rd of the living and the dead (death is another term for Hell). All mankind belong to Christ and because of that - every knee will bow and every tongue will confess Christ. There are two important points to the resurrection of Christ: first: It demonstrates that G-d has a body of flesh and bones (See Luke 24:39) Second: It demonstrates that Jesus has power to raise all men (See 1Cor 15:22) The Traveler Why is their an Easter Pageant at the Mesa Arizona Temple and not one in all LDS Wards?
  21. Hi Who knows what is "Freemasonary" and where you have heard of this word before? Allah bless you I am a Freemason. The word implies a man who works in Masonry (typically stone), and who is free born. Freemasons today are speculative, not operative. Anything else? I have noticed that a lot of union workers believe that they are part of a religion. They are loyal dedicated firm believers. Is "freemasonary" a form of religion? What is Jacob's Ladder? What is the Rainbow Program?
  22. When I think of being offended and being offensive, I put it into the parable of movie theaters. First of all, we are drawn to a movie by advertising which is usually weeks or months before the release of a popular movie. We start preparing to see the movie by setting a time when everyone is available to go, putting money aside, and start getting routine chores done ahead of time. One the day of the movie, everyone knows that we are going to see the 2:00 p.m. show. By 10:00 a.m. everyone is getting dressed and collecting their belongings for the outing. By noon, all are seated in the vehicle and going to eat a light lunch before the movie. By 1:30 p.m., the tickets have been paid and everyone has been to the restroom and got a drink of water and are now seated in the theater watching the pre-show advertisements. Then we are enjoying a good movie. WRONG: The last minute people are looking for seats just as the movie starts playing and of course standing in front of us trying to decide who is going to sit beside who. The people sitting behind us have seen the movie before and keep talking about the next scene giving away any unexpected events. People sitting up front sing along with all the sound tracks while clapping or waving their arms in the air. At least 1 in 10 people are going to and go from the concession stand during the movie and at least half of them will spill food and beverages. If we had not been offended, and to say that we were not is an all time lie, there would be no home movie systems like VHS and DVD. Many people just wait a few months and watch the movie at home. Buy it or rent the movie? You can order it online, rent it online, or go to the store and buy/rent it. And those people who show up at your house unexpectedly when you are watching the movie, talk all the way through, laugh and make jokes during the non-action/talking parts, and want to play video games during the movie, oh, those are your friends. Just turn off the movie and visit with them maybe their up to shooting some basketball hoops or go on a dog walk with you. Best of all you can blame them for procrastinating stuff you didn’t want to do. I guess that we do choose to be offended after all.
  23. I'm not sure exactly what that means and is it something that the Prophet & 12 achieve?
  24. Jaime: I'm sending you back in the Delorean Time Machine (Back To The Future) to "beat the snot out of yourself!
  25. Just posting to keep it on page one where I can find it.
