  1. Last year, I was paying $175 a month for an insurance plan that had a $5K annual deductible. How it works is that the bills get sent to the insurance company, who decides what percentage they're going to pay and then stick me for the rest. By the time I got everything settled after my kidney stone last fall, I was out $2200. Oh, and since I made a claim last year, I'm now paying $203 a month.
  2. It's a nice thought, but that's not how it works around here. Thanks to Ft. Hood being right next door, the singles scene is clogged with people who care about a person's paycheck first and anything else second. It generally takes a date or two to figure out who is who, and by then you're out a fair amount of cash. The folks with the good government jobs can afford it, but I can't.
  3. Speaking of health care, I got a letter in the mail yesterday from the Department of Health and Human Services. According to the letter, I make too little to qualify for an insurance subsidy. Yeah...
  4. It's R. For future reference, Box Office Mojo.com maintains a list of upcoming movies that often goes as far as 2+ years out. If you find a movie that sounds interesting, you can check the title against IMDB.com and/or Wikipedia. Depending upon how far in advance we're talking, there will usually be a rating already in place.
  5. I can't post the link due to the extreme cursing involved, but back in October the website Motherboard did a write-up on a situation in which SJWs drove someone to attempt suicide because of extreme harassment and death threats due to how she drew characters from certain popular cartoon series, such as drawing a "fat" character as being thinner than they actually were. Fortunately, at least two individuals who were lobbing the death threats wound up having to deal with the police.
  6. Some jurisdictions allow people to do "write-ins" on the ballot if you vote using a paper ballot. This means that you can write in the name of a person who you would prefer to vote for if the person is not officially on the list. This might make things easier for folks who want to do "none of the above".
  7. Portland Community College is about to launch "Whiteness History Month" in April in order to look at how white people are to blame for discrimination and racism.
  8. Hollywood (et al) will continue to fail miserably at depicting the church in any honest fashion. Yes folks I *finally* got around to seeing the first episode of "Quantico" that people were talking about a few months ago. Sure enough, ABC brought their usual level of Mormon-bashing to the show.
  9. Just saw "13 Hours" today. It seems that certain other movie reviewers have never been in a fight-or-flight, life-and-death situation, as from some of the reviews I've read they don't understand how spot-on this film is to what happens when rough men are compelled into an adrenaline-packed situation.
  10. A British restaurant did a total take-down of someone who left them a bad Trip Advisor review.
  11. Some character names might help, thanks.
  12. I'd say that this "Pros and Cons" strip just about sums things up...
  13. Look at it this way. I had to go watch "Bad Grandpa".
  14. Yeah - let's keep it to just what a person could purchase using starting assets please.
  15. Be grateful. I'm a movie reviewer, and so I've had to sit through about half of those, plus a number of others. "Pixels" was actually pretty decent if you were in the target audience, but the rest of the nominees that I saw honestly deserve their place.
  16. I know. I just want to see Vort's reaction when she reads what I posted.
  17. Half-orcs? I seem to recall there being rules for half-ogres and half-giants floating around somewhere... And to answer the earlier question, the rough setting is somewhere in western Ukraine.
  18. The nominations for the 2015 Razzie Awards, honoring the worst in Hollywood, are out. (cursing on one page of nominations) "Paul Blart 2", "Fantastic Four", "Pixels", "Jupiter Ascending", and "Fifty Shades" lead in all categories this year. I never saw Blart or Fifty Shades, so I can't comment on them. But I honestly thought that Pixels was decent enough. I do agree that FF and Jupiter Ascending were duds, though. As it is, I'm surprised that they're choosing to focus solely on these films. We had a *lot* of stinkers last year, like "Blackhat", "Burnt", "Hot Pursuit", "Jem and the Holograms", "Strange Magic", "Krampus", and "The Perfect Guy."
  19. House Rules are in post #2
  20. A man is suing a museum because they have paintings of Jesus that depict him as being white & blonde. He says that he suffered mentally because the images didn't look like he did.
  21. 3.0 has no percentile. And you're free to go and buy your own gear.
  22. You'll all be level 1.
  23. I just want a basic description consisting of name, race, class, brief profile, and background history.
  24. The standard is strength, constitution, dexterity, intelligence, wisdom, and charisma.
  25. And the backstory that would justify such a character is...? Edit - remember, the rules & whatnot that would allow such things have to be in a book whose name can be mentioned on the forums. Those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, count yourself lucky.
