Saw "The Forest" this morning. They had everything they needed for a Hitchcock-style number, but kept fumbling the ball.

Depending upon the make and model of keyboard you're using, your keyboard may have a button that says "PrtSc". This button takes screen caps as well; you just have to open up Paint or another image processor and paste the photo in order to save it.

I'll give everyone who wants to play a chance to create characters. Once they have their character ready, they'll announce it to my with a post giving the name of their character and a general description. Once I feel I have enough people together for a proper campaign, we'll begin.

If you have Microsoft Excel, then you can use the RAND feature to roll for you. Click on a cell and type "=RAND()" in order to get a string of numbers. Go to the next cell and type "[cell with the RAND command] * 100" to get the string as something other than decimals. That last box divided by 5 will give you the same results as rolling a d20, while that last box divided by 25 will give you the same results as rolling a d4. Under the circumstances, I'll accept a d20 roll instead of 3d6 for stats, providing that you remember that 2s, 19s, and 20s don't count.

My grades were so consistently high during my undergrad years that I was already accepted into a local MBA program before I even applied; my GRE was just a formality. The big thing that you need to do before you consider going for a master's degree is to evaluate the school in question. Accredation. Course requirements. How those courses are taught / structured. Applicability towards your goals. Et cetra. Not only will this ensure that you're not sending your money down a hole, it'll help ensure that the set-up is a good fit for your personal life. For example, "being able to take classes online" may sound like a good idea because you can see to matters no matter where you happen to be, but you'll need to work with family and friends to ensure that they understand "From _____ to _____ I'll be doing course work; please do not disturb me." I've lost count of how many arguments I had with my parents during my undergrad and grad years because they equated "my being on the computer" with "me goofing off."

Games have been played via e-mail, so it can be done. As it is, the purpose of having everything in public is so that there's a public archive of what took place in an actual game run by actual people. This way, people can compare the example left here to the allegations raised by people opposed to gaming.

House rules for this campaign: Note that all rules presume either 3.0 or 3.5; I'll be using 3.0 for this one, but 3.5 is close enough. #1 - Stat pool Here's how the stats will work. You role 3d6 six times to create a pool of numbers that you can assign to your attributes. You can then split a total of 10 points between these numbers. Under this method, for example, a numbers pool of 18, 15, 3, 3, 18, 18 could become 18, 15, 10, 6, 18, 18. If you want to use that stat pool, then fine. If you don't want to use that stat pool, then you have to set it aside so that your followers (if you get the "leadership" trait) can have them. #2 - Multi-Classing IMHO, the biggest weakness of 3.0 and 3.5 is that if you wish to cross-class you have to decide which class to level up at each level-up. I prefer the old-school solution from Advanced. When you create the character, you can select as many character classes as you want so long as they are not in conflict; for example, you cannot be a paladin / thief because the classes have alignment conflicts. At each level, you gain the hit points, skill points, and feats of all classes simultaneously. You also get the starting equipment packages of all the classes, allowing you to make out like a bandit at first. For example, if you were a cleric / sorcerer, you'd gain the HP, SP, and feats of both at character creation and each time you leveled up. In exchange, however, the experience points you get from each event are divided by the number of classes you have. For example, our hypothetical cleric / sorcerer would have their XP award divided in half. #3 - Gear Once you're done with your character, flip a coin. If you get heads, then your character gets a free 10-foot pole. If you get tails, then your character gets a free boat oar.

So as not to derail a certain other thread, I'm starting this new thread here. The purpose of this thread will be to discuss all things relating to Dungeons & Dragons and all other tabletop role-playing games so far as allowed by the rules of conduct. I'm starting this thread both for convenience of others *and* so that the general public can see what actual games are like. That being said, let's have a go.

Well, if the mods allowed for it I was going to go ahead and start a separate thread on Dungeons & Dragons so that we could run the game right here on the site. This way, everyone can see what a real game is like in contrast to the horror stories that are circulating.

Thanks. If I was to run a campaign, it'd be 3rd edition with house rules. I was having financial troubles when 3.5 and 4 came out, so I never upgraded. And I'll wait on 5 until I get more feedback from people I trust.

About a decade ago I read Gene Simmons' autobiography "KISS And Make Up." Simmons was raised Jewish. As part of it, from the time he started school until the time he entered high school, he received his education in a Jewish facility that taught theology and history in addition to the regular selection of academic subjects. He may not be an observant Jew, but he still at least considers himself culturally Jewish and holds to the theology. Because of this, he admitted, he got a kick out of quoting the Bible right back at the folks who shouted at him during the 1970s. ** As far as Dungeons & Dragons goes, I might still have the notes for a play-by-email campaign I was going to run a few years ago before the players backed out. If anyone's interested, I'll see if I can find them.

I have a Transformers calendar for the house. I bought a My Little Pony calendar for the office just to see what everyone else does.

A large swath of mainline Christianity - including some of your more staunch Protestants - literally believe that Dungeons & Dragons is nothing less than a recruiting tool for Satan. There's a lot of nonsense out there equating D&D to Satanism, Wicca, Paganism, murder, human sacrifice, and a whole host of other unpleasant things. ...never mind the fact that co-creator Gary Gygax was an Evangelical Protestant. This sentiment has done a lot to drive large numbers of gamers away from Christianity over the decades. Hence why it's so surprising to find out that a person can be a gamer *and* religious at the same time.

Take a look at my follow-up post. You see, if you lead off with telling people that you're a member of the church, then folks will throw up all sorts of defense mechanisms. But if folks see that you're one of them, they'll be far more receptive to what you have to say. It's like what Ammon did when he was among the Lamanites. Instead of going out and preaching to them, he got a job and worked alongside them. As such, when he did speak to everyone, he wasn't just some random religious loon; instead, he was the local hero and so his words carried that much more weight with everyone he talked with.

As a result of what took place in high school, I made the decision that if I ever did have children I would home-school. I'd go into details, but much of what took place comes close to violating the rules of conduct for this site.
